Chapter Four

The next day was a complete blur. The lessons passed in what seemed like minutes. The only thought that stayed put in Lily's mind was that the Halloween ball was tonight. As her classes dwindled on, Lily's mind wandered to three days ago when she went to pick up her dress robes.

The bells on the door clinked softly as Lily walked into the little shoppe in Diagon Alley. As Lily looked around the shoppe, there were no other customers in sight. That's exactly the way she liked it, of course, empty and quiet. She knew from personal experience that the shoppe could get crowded and loud when it seemed like everyone wanted some thread on one day.

"Hello Madam Malkin, how are you today?" Lily spoke to a woman bent over a cash register punching numbers like there was no tomorrow.

"Oh, hello, Lily dear, have you come for your dress robes" the matron asked, standing up and putting away her calculations.

"What! They're in? Oh Madam, that would be wonderful! I didn't even know you had them completed!" Lily said excitedly. She had specially ordered her first dress robe only three weeks ago.

"Now, because I made you wait so long, I took the liberty of embroidering the cuffs, hem, and collar with a gold thread. It really brings out the color of the robes. I am still in awe that the fabric color matched the exact color of your eyes," Madam said.

"Oh madam, could I see them?" Lily asked, hardly containing her anticipation.

"Oh yes darling, let me just slip in the back. Wait right here." Madam Malkin left the cash register and went into the back room. Lily restlessly paced from the door to the register and back several times before she heard a slight rustling noise. Lily looked up and looked into the eyes of very wizened and cheery eyes of Madam Malkin. In her hands, she held the most perfect dress robe Lily had ever seen.

"I would really like you to try it on for one more alteration," Madam asked Lily.

"Sure, that would be wonderful," Lily answered. She followed Madam through the rows and rows of robes of all shapes, sizes, and colors. There were racks for gently used and second hand robes. There were also racks that were full of bright patterned and fun colored robes, obviously for a child's wardrobe. As well as all types of fabrics that lined the back wall and a whole table devoted to spools of thread that made up all the colors of the rainbow and then some. They finally reached the lone platform, surrounded by a three-part mirror.

"I'll let you go ahead and get the robe on. I have something I left up front. I'll give you a few minutes to get comfortable." Madam Malkin hung the robe in a little room off to the left and proceeded to head up to the front. Lily went to the little room, undressed, and tried on the robe. Slowly, she stepped out and onto the platform and looked around. She faced the mirrors quite cautiously; afraid of what she might see, however, her eyes widened in amazement at her own reflection. The length of the emerald, silk robe fell softly to her feet. The bottom of the robe swayed with a hint of movement making a faint rustling sound. It also had a slit on the left side that rode all the way up to her knee. When she walked, the slit exposed a view of a slender calf. The hem was embroidered with an intricate pattern of gold thread. The intricate pattern was also repeated on the collar and cuffs of the sleeves. The sleeves fell to her wrists, with a slit that followed her delicate arms to the elbow. When she lifted her arms, the sleeves fell to her elbows, sort of like what muggles called 'peasant sleeves'. The fabric was stopped from going all the way to her shoulders by a thin layer of green lace wrapped around her whole arm. The collar was a bit high, like a cape but it suited her neck. The centerpiece at the collar was a dazzling mother of pearl button that would be able to button close if she wanted to close the collar and fold it down. Lily was still roaming her reflection when Madam returned with a small package in her elegant hands.

"Oh, Madam, you have outdone yourself this time! It is so lovely, I don't think I'll be able to wear it in fear of something happening to it!" Lily said

"Well, I do admit that it has been one of my more beautiful works, the slit is a bit daring, don't you think, but who am I to brag? Anyway, I think that one thing is missing," Madam said and she started to open the small package. Lily was still turned to the mirror so she only saw the reflection when Madam reached up and put a delicate comb in Lily's hair. The comb was curved and a lightened golden color. Three oriental flowers decorated it. The two little ones on the sides were an ivory white. The color brought more attention to the biggest flower in the middle. It was completely see through jade in color. The middle of the flower held a mother of pearl, which was the same size as the one her collar held.

"Oh Madam, where did you get this?" Lily asked in amazement.

" Oh it was some bauble that I found up in the attic of this old place. I never saw it before so I couldn't think of someone who deserved it more. I just remembered about all those hours you put in at this shop when I was helping my daughter in America. I couldn't have done it without you. This is just a small token of my appreciation," Madam said.

"Oh Madam, thank you, thank you so much!! I'll never forget this. I'll be ready to pay for the robe as soon as I get it off," Lily said

"Okay, I'll be up front. Take your time," Madam said and headed to the front. Lily went to the little side room and quickly undressed and slipped into her regular school robes. She then slipped the dress robe into the protective, plastic covering and headed toward the front.

"Okay, the robe will be 37 gallons and 5 Knuts," Madam said, calculating the amount on the small register.

"What about the hair piece?" Lily asked

"It's on the house sweetheart. Just think of it as a token of my appreciation. Now make sure you take many pictures. I want to see how radiant you look."

"I will. Thank you so much," Lily said. She gathered up her things and....

"Ms. Evans, please do try and pay attention," Professor Flitwick uttered.

Startled, Lily gathered for something to say. "What? Oh, I'm sorry, Professor. I didn't mean to drift. It's just the Halloween ball is tonight and I can't stop thinking about it," Lily said in an excited tone. Her Charm's professor rolled her eyes. Her classmates however, nodded and murmured in agreement.

"I understand, Lily. No classes today have behaved normally. All this hype and holler over a dance, its all rubbish, I say," Flitwick said with a smile on his face. No one believed him for a minute. After all, he did head the event. "Anyway...class, I want us all to review those cheering charms or I will be forced to give you homework." The whole class moaned at the thought and began to work. As the class progressed, the silence was broken by frequent whispers about the ball. The whispers got louder as more people added their opinions. Soon, the class had forgotten about the stout warning of homework and was again chitchatting about the ball.

"Class..." Flitwick trailed off at the sudden silence. He looked around the room and saw 30 pairs of wide-eyed faces looking back at him. "OH alright!" Flitwick sighed. The class gave a cheer of happiness and talked for the rest of the hour.

The gang met up after charms and headed toward the common room. "So we'll all meet and go down as a group tonight?" Peter's said.

"That sounds about right," Lily's said

"I wonder what Riddle will wear Lil," James said disgusted.

"Don't even start, James. I think Tom will look dashing," Lily answered. "Oh, bloody Hell! I forgot my books in Flitwick's class. You guys go on ahead and I'll see you later," Lily said already turning back.

"Okay, Lil, see ya later." Everyone headed off.

This was his chance to teach her. He waited silently in the shadows of a classroom. When Lily passed by two hands snuck out and grabbed her, one pulled her wrist the other covered her mouth to smother the startled cry that almost emerged. She was pulled into a dark room and could hardly make out anything.

"If I let you go, don't scream, alright?," Tom whispered in her ear. He had her pushed up against a wall, so all she could do was nod. He removed his hand and he moved it to her wrists, lifting them above her head.

"Who are you and what blasted thing do you think you are doing?" Lily said as soon as she could speak.

"What, you don't recognize my voice, darling?" Tom almost purred.

For the people who knew Tom Riddle, the lower his voice became, the more dangerous he was feeling.

"Tom! What are you doing? Get off of me!" Lily said.

"Lily." He breathed her name on her neck, sending chills through her. "You need to learn your lesson for embarrassing me yesterday. Now what should I do?" Tom's face was parallel with hers. He looked at her with eyes that were dark and devastatingly handsome and saw her eyes staring back with plain defiance. She was pressed against the wall, helpless and unable to move. She shouldn't be defiant, I could do anything to her and she could never stop it Tom thought savagely. Suddenly a thought dawned on him. Ever so slowly, Tom began to move his hips, thinking that this would make her break a little. Lily's purity and innocence be damned! Let' see how she gets out of this one, Tom thought. He molded himself on top of her.

Lily felt his arousal through her robes. She was at a loss to know what to do. She was land locked with no way out. "Get off me NOW, Tom!" Lily said as the pressure increased on wrists. "Ouch! You're hurting me, Tom." Lily said, trying to maneuver her body out of the deadlock.

"What, I thought you would like it like this. I would have to do something for you not to move, I mean, if you broke my legs. I wouldn't be able to this would I?" Tom said, still grinding slowly against her, creating more friction and heat.

"STOP! Don't do this, please!" As she pleaded, however, he shifted her wrists into one hand and began to run one finger lightly from her neck to her waist.

Lily said desperately, "Tom! I really can't feel my wrists. Stop it. Let me go!" Although her mind was intact, her body was reacting to his touch. Her knees were weak and she felt that she would fall if he released her. At any cost, no matter what he said she had to get out.

"Answer me, dammit!" Tom yelled. His breathing came in harsh breaths silently communicating his anger.

"No, Tom. I'm not going to screw you, so get off." She bucked and at the same time, Tom roughly turned her around. During the process, her head banged the wall with a solid thud. He looked deeply into her eyes and Lily looked right back. By the dim light coming from the partially opened door, she could see they were a stormy gray, almost black with desire.

Mistake number one

He bent down and his gaze shifted to her lips. He couldn't resist touching her face and brushed a stray lock of red hair away from her eye. He completely abandoned her shoulders and his hands stood motionless against his sides. She let out a quiet whimper of fear. Something in Tom's eyes was dangerously compelling her closer.

Mistake number two.

He looked into her eyes and he bent his head. Their breath mingled and their lips were centimeters apart. "Would this change your mind?"

Mistake number three

He kissed her.
