Chapter 1 - Doubts and More

After Care of Magical Creatures, Draco Malfoy fell behind the others; he hid himself behind a group of trees and watched the other Slytherins who were wandering towards the castle. Nervously, he kept on waiting. He felt a strong desire to follow his friends, but didn't. He had promised himself to do it today. On the first day of the new school year, he would finally have the courage to say what he had been planning for over half a year. Why the hell did it have to be a Gryffindor girl? His father would simply kill him if he knew what he was going to do in a few seconds. In fact, he was damn . . . Draco couldn't finish his thought because right at this moment he heard the laughter and talking of the Gryffindor's who were walking over to Hagrid's hut. There she was. He leaned against a tree, pretending to be cool and uninterested. Then he whistled through two fingers, it was short, but loud enough.

"Weasley. . .Ginny!" he shouted.

Ginny looked up and when she realized who was yelling for her she stopped in surprise. "Malfoy . . .?!" She didn't seem too pleased.

"Would you talk to me for a second . . . Please?" he added when he saw her unsure face.

'Ooooh - have you ever seen this? A serpent trying to be a gentleman!" she chuckled 'Mhm . . Alright, I wouldn't want to miss this. Girls, go to Hagrid and tell him I'll be there in five minutes - and if I'm not, then he should send the cruellest creature he has and have it cut Malfoy into pieces..."

The girls grinned and moved on.

"So. ..what do you want, Malfoy?!" She joined him in the shadow of the trees.

Draco blushed, 'Ahem . . . yeah . . . so . . . I just wanted . . . I mean, you're so sweet and . . ." he grabbed her arm and look down to her, deep into her eyes ' . . . it's just . . . I love you, Ginny Weasley!"

He lifted her chin with his hand and kissed her. For this moment he had been waiting so long but it took only a moment until she stumbled back wiping her mouth in disgust, She looked up to him with her contempt shown plainly in her eyes, and she spat on the ground

'How dare you!..." then her eyes filled up with tears, she quickly wheeled around and ran away, heading for Hagrid's hut. While running, she tried to wipe away her tears. Malfoy stole her first kiss. How could he? Typical Slytherin . . . not caring about her feelings or anything....

She reached Hagrid's hut and saw him waving: ''ello gurl! How have ya been?!"

'Hagrid..." Ginny said in a low voice "I'm not so well today, I think I have to see Madam Pomfrey"

Hagrid looked down to her worried face in sorrow 'Sure, go on then and take care!"

'Thanks" Ginny started walking towards the castle, she heard Hagrid from far away, talking to her classmates;

'Come over here!" but her thoughts went back to what just happened before, now, however there was a feeling other than anger and she was afraid to admit it to herself.

His words were ringing in her ears: 'I love you . . ."

She blushed and had to sit down for a while. Nobody had said something like this to her before. But, bloody hell, he was Slytherin. And he was the one that picked on adorable Harry all the time. But was this really her buisness? She had had a crush on Harry since she first saw him but he'd never shown any feelings but friendship for her. She was sure that he was in love with that obstinate Ravenclaw girl Cho. So...why did she hang on him? Why did she always protect him? She tried to find some reasons but the image of smiling Harry was suddenly blown away by the cold, blue eyes of Draco.

This was all so horrible; she hid her face in her hands and started crying again. No, not Draco Malfoy, his father was a Death Eater and Draco was nothing better and snobbish and.... How could a damn Slytherin irritate her like this?!

She remembered her first year . . . Tom Riddle . . . this diary . . . she had been evil as well, probably more evil than Draco had ever been. Even if she'd pretended to be all unlucky with what had happened in her first year, she had, in fact, been scared deep in her sould 'cause Tom Riddle who was You-Know-Who indeed had understood her doubts and sorrows much better than anyone of her friends . . . Was there a mistake? Did the sorting hat put her into Gryffindor because her whole family had been there without checking her correctly? No, she told herself. She happened to be a Gryffindor and always tried to become a nice and charming witch like her mother . . .

She wanted to talk to someone about this, but who would seriously listen? She couldn't ask Hermione for help, Hermione hated Draco as well and would put a curse on him in no time if she'd known. So would Ron or the twins. And she wouldn't talk about her true feelings with a boy anyway. True feelings? Did she really know her true feelings to tell anyone? No, she had to decide it by herself this time and she was sure she wouldn't let this feeling take control. She wasn't in love with this Malfoy guy and she would ignore him from now on. Probably he would forget about her if she pretended that nothing happened.... She finally got up and joined the Gryffindors who were going to dinner at the Great Hall.

Draco felt pretty awful. It was as if someone had punched him in his stomach (even though this had never happened to him but he imagined it felt like this). What a fool he had been. What had he been thinking? Nothing! The girl was driving him crazy. When he had seen her pure, white skin and deep, brown eyes looking up to him, unable to hide her fear he just lost control. She was so beautiful that kissing her then had seemed to be the only chance he might ever get. That moment when his lips had touched her soft ones had been so endlessly wonderful but so short at the same time and she was so confused afterwards. He didn't meant to hurt her but he hadn't found the right words to explain his feelings more gently. He wouldn't give up on her now, she was way too precious. He wouldn't fail again. Slytherin or Gryffindor. . . who cares?!
