Author's Note:
Author’s Notes: Dangling my feet into the Harry Potter fandom. Credit where credit is due- thanks to Lyra Stormrider for the beta. I’ve always been fascinated by Ollivander, and the movie just solidified that… and since I haven’t really seen many fics on him… anyway, feedback is appreciated. Dedication: For Touya, because he’s just the sexiest guy I know. Well, except for maybe the other members of the F8- depends if I’m mad at him or not!

    There is no good.

    There is no evil.

    There is only power.

That's the first thing any wandmaker must accept.

Very few people can get past this; that is why so few people are able to learn how to craft wands. It takes a certain amount of skill to be able to feel which materials will combine to form a powerful wand; it takes even more to help the wand find the right owner. When you combine all the necessary traits together, there are very few people who can make wands- fewer still who can become master wandmakers, like myself.

Phoenix feathers, dragon heartstrings, unicorn hair, combined with various woods to enhance their strength and bring out various properties. Each wand is polished and honed, balanced so its intrinsic magical nature is at its peak. This is common knowledge.

There are some secrets, though, only wandmakers know. For each wand I make, I make at least one twin. Only an idiot would be unaware of the potential danger of this, but this is also a precautionary step. For when wizards go bad, as they say, the only thing that can stop them is themselves. I help things on their way- just because I don't believe in good or evil, doesn't mean I don't play favorites. I prefer kindness to cruelty.

    But I serve both.

I am not the world's moral compass; it is not my decision who should have a wand and who should not. There are ways around using a wand, for the truly determined wizard, so I do not put the burden of that choice in my own hands. Rather, I let the Ministry handle it, incompetent though they may be at times.

The safeguards I take are of a more subtle kind.

Power... what happens when one wizard grows too powerful? There is a balance in the world, between all the forces of magic, and when this balance is swung too far to one side, it must be set aright. I am not some foolish do-gooder, who tries to fix the world's problems. I am a wandmaker. Both sides need my skills.

Priori Incantatum... the reverse spell effect. When two wands meet in duel that have the same core, one of the wands will have all of its spells undone, for as long as the contact is maintained. It is this effect that I know of, and most wandmakers use to their advantage. We never make a wand that does not have a brother.

The wand chooses the wizard... I say that often. I have said that to every young witch or wizard who had ever bought their first wand from me. The wands seem almost sentient at times, only going out into the world when they are needed. I used to wonder at that, but now I've stopped. I live in a magical world, and there is much that is unexplained. Perhaps it is best that way.

Perhaps the only thing a good wandmaker needs is a certain lack of conscience. After all, what conscientious person would sell wands to the Grindelwalds and Voldemorts of the world? But without us, would the Harry Potters and Dumbledores ever exist? So I sell wands to any who can use them, matching the wand to the wizard. And each time I make a new wand, a part of me wonders whose hand it is destined for, and what deeds they will perform with it.
