While You Slept

No more nightmares. No more potions. No more horrors.

Life for the Malfoys was steadily going down hill. The press blew my parents' divorce clear out of proportion. They said that my father was abusive and that was why my mother had filed the papers. They said that the child she carried was a result of a rape, and that the reason my father was with a werewolf was to bring the lycans over to Voldemort's side.

Then they heard about Harry and I being engaged.

They said that Harry had abandoned his role of savior. They said that I had bewitched him. They called us both lunatics. They said that the next thing that would come out would be Dumbledore and Voldemort being married with five children.

The support of the school was gone, not that there ever was support. No one even knew about Harry and I--save Blaise.

Needless to say, he wasn't very happy either.

"Over a year with me and less than a month with that thing and you're already engaged?" he demanded. "How could you do this? Did I mean nothing to you?"

"No!" I nearly yelled. "You meant the world to me, Blaise, but--you don't understand!"

"That was obvious."

"Would you shut-up and listen to me?" I demanded. "I didn't almost lose you, Blaise. I nearly caused his death and I can't lose him."

"Now you know how I feel."

"Don't you dare do this to me!" I yelled. "We didn't make it, don't you understand? We weren't meant to be. Don't forget: you were the one who told me to just tell him. Well I have. And, thanks to you, we got together. Now we're engaged. Forget about me," I ordered. "Just forget about what we had."

"What did we have?" he demanded, tears in his eyes.

I didn't answer him. If he needed to ask, he wasn't worth my time. I walked away, off to class: Advanced Defense, with the Gryffindors. One of the few classes I had with Harry.

Blaise avoided me after that, thank Merlin. I didn't want to be reminded of him while I was happy with Harry.

Happy with Harry...

But happiness lasts only so long, and Harry was right.

Voldemort put things together with the news reports. Lucius Malfoy, his most trusted supporter, was a spy.

He nearly killed my father.

I left the school to help take care of him.

Remus felt that it was his fault and wanted to kill himself for it.

Harry came soon after that.

Voldemort figured out that Snape was a spy. He was my father's best friend after all.

Also, nearly killed.

I'll never know how we survived.

Voldemort attacked. With most of the Order members broken either emotionally or physically, he felt it was the perfect time.

Ron and Hermione were waiting for us as we rushed to the battlefield. They pointed out Voldemort and we raced to him.

I stopped Harry just before we reached him.

"Don't you dare die on me," I ordered, kissing him.

"Same goes for you," he replied breathlessly.

I fought Death Eaters while he fought the greatest evil of our time.

The battle raged well into the night. The smell of bloodied bodies was thick in the air and fires from explosions gave everything a hellish glow. I was terrified, but it looked like we were winning.

Until I heard Harry scream.

I was even more afraid as I turned to see him standing with Dumbledore--or rather to see Dumbledore holding him up.

Harry screamed again and I shot off after him, distantly wondering where I learned to run this fast.

When as I neared them, I saw what it was that made my love cry out the way he had.

His arm was gone.

"HARRY!" I yelled.

"DRACO, NO!" he yelled.

I wasn't listening to him. He was hurt; I didn't care what danger that put me into. I had to help him. I was nearly to them when I heard Harry shout the Killing Curse.

I stopped, for some reason thinking that the curse was directed to me.

It was a good thing that I did stop. I narrowly missed a jet of green light that had been sent my way from someone else.

I looked in the direction of the curse and saw Voldemort on his knees.

Harry cast the curse again.

And again.

And again.

The fifth time the curse was shouted, Dumbledore and I had joined Harry.

Finally, he fell.

Harry fell with him.
