All I Want is You

/You say you want

Diamonds on a ring of gold

You say you want

Your story to remain untold

But all the promises we make

From the cradle to the grave

When all I want is you/

Ginny sat at the foot of her bed, her head resting on her knees, looking down at the boy who lay sleeping on her pillows. His white blond hair shone in the moonlight, reminding her of the snow which lay thick and bright over the grounds of Hogwarts. His face, so beautiful, was calm, peaceful--so unlike the face he wore in the daytime. But then, everything was different by the light of day, and she knew Draco like no one else did. She understood his need to be outwardly cruel--inside he was a scared, lonely little boy. The things he had told her nearly shook her to the core, stories of betrayal, hurt, and constant fear and death. He told her of his hatred for his father, and how the man had taken the one person who loved and adored Draco without question or hesitation, and turned her into a quiet mouse of a woman, too afraid to breathe unless her husband told her she could.

"I won't be that way, Gin," Draco had promised, his blue eyes full of tears. "Never. I want you to know that."

/You say you'll give me

A highway with no one on it

Treasure just to look upon it

All the riches in the night/

He promised her gold, jewels, the world on a silver platter if that's what she desired. By his side, she would never know poverty again. He would give money to her parents, her brothers, anyone, but she knew they were too proud to even think about accepting it, especially from the Malfoy coffers. She didn't care about his money--she would rather live with him in a shack if it meant they were together. All she desired was his love, to stand beside him during the day, and sleep with him entwined in her arms at night. Nothing else mattered.

She loved the feeling she had in his arms--invincible, fearless, and completely happy. Looking at him now in her bed, his bare chest rising and falling softly with each breath, her own chest ached with everything she felt for him. Her eyes burned as if it would blind her to look on his beauty, and she could barely find the strength to breathe for fear she would wake up and this would all have been a dream.

She couldn't believe he was hers.

/You say you'll give me

Eyes in a moon of blindness

A river in a time of dryness

A harbour in the tempest/

In a few hours he would wake and slip off into the darkness of the castle, and she would again be alone, tracing his outline on her sheets and breathing his scent from her pillows just to prove he was there. In the light of day, his harshness would return, and she would have to endure his pretense, all the while fighting the desire just to scream out that she loved him as his eyes told her the same. She would endure her brother and Harry talking about him, about how evil and horrible and dark he was, but after the sun went down and all was again quiet, he would come to her and they would be perfect, if only for a while. She would memorize every line of his lean, muscular body and every word that he said as he made love to her, so she could remember when they were apart. She would hold him close and tell him all that she felt, as if it were the last night of the world.

/You say you want

Your love to work out right

To last with me through the night/

Separation was inevitable. He was leaving school at the end of the year, his time at Hogwarts finished forever. She had one year remaining...and who knew what would happen In a year's time? "I will never fool myself into believing that we will be together forever," she thought bitterly. They spoke of marriage, of a life beyond Hogwarts, beyond their families, beyond Voldemort, but Ginny knew that this love was uncertain. So many obstacles that they may never be able to overcome...

The only thing that mattered was that they loved each other now, and that they had the hope of a better day. Somewhere there was a place for their love, and Ginny prayed with all her might that they would find it. At the other end of the bed, Draco stirred and looked up at the woman he loved with a smile. As he reached out, Ginny crawled into his arms and felt his heart beating with hers, holding off the daylight as long as they could.
