Chapter One- Can't Stop Now

"Hey, Luna!" Ginny called, waving her over. "Come over here!"

Luna put down the book that she was reading, To Catch a Crumple Horned Snorkack and headed outside. It was a beautiful day, and everyone was outside enjoying the clear September air.

"Hello," Luna said to everyone. She stood by Ginny, accompanied by Harry, Ron, Hermione, Seamus and Dean.

Ginny grinned. "Why were you inside on a day like this?"

"Oh, just a bit of reading," Luna said.

Before Ginny could respond, her boyfriend, Dean, picked her up and put her on his back. Ginny laughed as Dean ran around, finally dumping Ginny on the lakeshore.

Everyone laughed and Ginny playfully whacked Dean over the head. Ginny had been going out with Dean for two years, and Luna anticipated Ginny had gotten over Harry completely.

Ginny and Dean walked back over, holding hands. Ginny seemed genuinely happy. Luna zoned out of the conversation now. She was glad that she had more friends now, but she never felt like she truly belonged. The others were so different from her; did they really see her as a friend now? Or at least more than a strange girl?

"Luna," Ginny said, waving her hand in front of her face. "Earth to Loony!"

Luna smiled vaguely. "Yes, I'm here."

"Everyone's going back to the castle, are you going to come?"

"Oh, no, I'll see you at dinner."

Ginny ran to catch up with the group, now fading over the hills. Luna sighed. She hated being called "Loony" but there was no point in telling Ginny that now, it had always been her other name.

The setting sun shone brilliantly on the lake giving it an orange hue. Luna loved fall because the sunset earlier and earlier, making way for long winter nights. She looked back at the castle, where Harry was now.

Luna looked back at the lake and sort of sighed. It was hopeless; she was in love with Harry, who she could never have. She knew if Ginny broke up with Dean for whatever reason, she would go right back to Harry. And Harry, he could easily have any girl he wanted. So it was all in vain.

"'It's better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all'," Luna recited wistfully. That used to be a phrase her mother said often, and it was all Luna remembered of her. Sitting on her lap, and her mother saying those words.

"Would you be proud of me?" Luna asked the air around her. "Would you be proud of me, Mum? I'm a sixth year at Hgwarts; I plan to become a teacher. Are you proud?"

She waited for a response, as if her mother was with her and could answer at any moment. The wind wrapped Luna in a sort of embrace. She smiled. That was good enough of an answer for her.

"Rest in piece," Luna said softly as the wind left. Her mother was gone now she could finally rest. Luna walked back up to the castle.

I noticed tonight

That the world has been turning

While I've stood here dithering around

Well I know I said I'd wait until you need me

But I have to go

I hate to let you down

But I can't stop now

I've got troubles of my own

Because I'm short on time

I'm lonely and too tired to talk

I noticed tonight

That the world has been turning

While I've sat here withering away

Well I know I said I wouldn't leave you behind

It breaks my heart to say

That I can't stop now

I've got troubles of my own

And I can't stop now for no one

Chapter Two- Ginny's Problem With Dean

Luna sat down next to Ginny in Charms, her favorite class. "Hello, Ginny, are you well?"

"Yeah, I'm okay," Ginny said.

"What's wrong?" Luna asked. She knew something was up with Ginny; she always got that certain tone in her voice to let people know everything was not okay.

"Nothing," said Ginny irritably.

This was stage two, Ginny got annoyed which led you on to think it was you who did something wrong. So then you would have to ask her what was going on.

"I know you, Ginny," Luna said.

Ginny sighed impatiently. "It's Dean. He's been acting really weird lately."

"How so?"

"I don't know," Ginny said. "Like, he never has time to talk to me anymore. It feels like I'm just not there, you know? Part of the scenery, but not anything noticeable."

"What are you going to do?"

"I'm going to talk to him," Ginny decided. "Dean can't do this and expect I'm going to take it sitting down."

"I'm sure it will work itself out," Luna said, getting out a quill and some parchment.

By Friday Ginny and Dean were broken up. As it turned out Dean had been cheating on Ginny with Lavender, which Ginny did not take lightly.

"I can't believe him," Ginny fumed. "Cheating on me with that cow Lavender Brown! No wonder he was ignoring me."

"You were too good for him anyway," Luna said, reaching for a book on the library shelf.

"Yes, I know that now," Ginny said loudly.

"Shhh!" Madame Prince warned the girls.

"There are plenty of other boys, Ginny," Luna said, leafing through the book.

"I guess so," Ginny said moodily, taking a book off the shelf. "I still can't believe Dean what made him do that?" She slammed the book back on the shelf, causing books to fly out everywhere.

"Out!" Madame Prince snatched the book from Luna's hand and pushed them out. "Out, out, out!"

The two fell to the ground as the door shut firmly behind them. Ginny helped Luna up once she was back on her feet. "Well, I'm over Dean now, Luna."

"Good," Luna said, brushing herself off.

"I know who I'm going to go after next," Ginny said, leaning in to tell Luna. "Harry Potter."

Many's the time I ran with you down

The rainy roads of our old town

Many the lives we lived in each day

And buried altogether

I know you think I'm holding you down

And I've fallen by the wayside now

I don't understand the same things as you

But I do

With the sun in your eyes

And on your own

Bedshaped and legs of stone

You'll knock on my door and up we'll go

In white light

Author notes: This is my first romance fic, so I'm going to do the best I can ^_^. I appreciate any feedback in the reviews you give me. Coming soon in chapters three and four, Luna considers giving up on Harry as Ginny goes after him. Later, cheese grater!
