Going with Lucius that evening, Lily felt extremely guilty and awkward. Narcissa LeBlanc and Severus Snape were also a couple, so it was kind of like a double date. Lucius kept trying to hold Lily´s hand, and in the end she just gave in, although now her crush had disintegrated and she felt repulsed. She hoped it didn´t show on her face.
Narcissa, although beautiful, was extremely bitchy and almost a perfect match for Severus, who was a complete jerk. He was popular and a jock. Although he had been a dork before, going out with Narcissa changed his whole status.
The four ate dinner at The Three Broomsticks, and Severus got obnoxiously drunk off the butterbeer. Lily only sipped a bit of hers, whereas Narcissa could drink a tankard in one gulp and not become drunk in the least. Lucius couldn´t drink like Narcissa, but close to it. Their meals weren´t extravagant, either. Lily barely ate; James kept filling her head, his kisses still on her lips. Lily also knew she could barely go on like this, one thing that Lucius did wrong could push her over the edge.
"Lily, you need me, right?" Lucius hiccupped, now drunk also.
"Yes, I suppose," Lily answered, although she thought this question was odd.
"Just checking."
The four walked out of the pub, Severus and Narcissa hand in hand. As soon as the two got into a secluded spot they went off to snog. Lily, disgusted, walked far ahead and eventually broke into a run. Lucius caught up to her, taking her hand. Lily, out of heart, let him but looked away and rolled her eyes.
Lucius insisted that they go back to the common room, and Lily agreed, partly because she didn´t know how to face James.
"So want to do it?" Lucius asked slyly when they got through the Slytherin common room door.
"What?" Lily asked, genuinely puzzled.
"You know...want a little...hic!...fun?" Lucius asked.
Lily caught the meaning quickly, disgusted.
"No!" she cried. "Lucius, you´re drunk. Go to bed. Get some rest."
"You know you want to," Lucius persisted. "You love me."
Lily knew it was now or never.
"Lucius, I hate to tell you this in your state, but I don´t love you! I really don´t! I don´t need you!" Lily began to slowly
cryas the hurt spread over his face. "We´re over...and you can´t change it. I´d better be going." Lily put her head down as she walked out.
"Yeah, you´d better!" Lucius bellowed, throwing a lamp against the wall to shatter it. "You bitch! Slut! I hate you! Get away from me, bitch!" Lucius chucked a plate at her and that was her cue: it was time to go.
Lily ran, ran away from the noise, the shattering glass, and out into the cold night outside. She knew that her friendship with Lucius was over...she had blown it.
