Chapter Two

Altwitch is so miserably evil. Detention on a Saturday night? At least I'm with Sirius *sigh* There's still the Three Broomsticks to look forward to tomorrow night, I thought.

"That wasn't very smart of Altwitch. I say he's losing his touch," said Sirius, who was smiling mischievously.

"And why is that?"

"Oh, well, leaving us alone in a classroom at night...it's like he's begging us to..."

"Sirius! That mind of yours, nobody will never know what's going on in there."

"You usually come pretty close."

I could feel my blood rushing to my face, oh no. Why do I get embarrassed so quickly?

We went to the Great Hall for yet another scrumptious meal. Sirius, being the conceited man that he is, decided to leave the Great Hall earlier to, as he claimed, "show off". In truth, I wanted to show him off as well, it's not often that I have a boyfriend this gorgeous...

As we emerged the Great Hall, I felt all the eyes in the Hall looking at us. All the girls were giving me piercing looks of utter jealousy. Sirius was smiling broadly, baring his perfectly straight, white teeth. He's so perfect...how could he want me?

Once in the Entrance Hall, Sirius turned to face me. He gently removed a stray curl from my face and said,

"Did you see those looks we were getting?"

"Yes, the girls would have tackled me down if it weren't for being gracious and proper... and the fact that Dumbledore's in the room helps." I smiled up at him; I could feel him searching my eyes...

"I'm talking about the guys, they all looked at me enviously, as if I don't deserve you, and I probably don't."

"If this has anything to do with anybody not deserving someone else, I say we deserve each other. I feel as though you're filling a gap and I hope I'm filling a gap in your heart as well..." I reached up to touch his hair...as I felt it through my fingers I felt some unexplainable happiness...

"You are." He enveloped me in a long hug and we headed for the Common Room together.

I was happier than I've ever been.

Dearest Diary,

I've got wonderful news...Sirius and I are (drum roll, please) an item. It all happened in Transfiguration... We even kissed, but that was rudely interrupted by the always horrible, Altwitch. Detention Saturday. Who really gives detention on a Saturday evening? Anyhow, tonight is the party at the Three Broomsticks. There's one thing that's been on my mind, though. I know it's strange but I don't feel worthy of Sirius' love. Lils has always told me how pretty she thinks I am. I always feel inferior to her...natural beauty. The only thing I like about myself are my eyes. They're the first thing Sirius noticed *sigh*. Lily and James are FINALLY going out. Nobody's been surprised at all. Everyone seems to be surprised about Sirius and I. I think my unresolved feelings of unworthiness can go back to before Hogwarts... I remember once in "elementary school" my so-called "friend", Tilly, had told the boy I liked at the time that I liked him. He was completely grossed out and said I was ugly. Since then I stuck around with Dave, my only childhood friend, he was heartbroken when I had to leave for Hogwarts...I wonder where he is now. I was always the odd one, the quiet one, and my family never let me forget that I was unwanted. Then again, back in elementary school, I wore glasses straight out of a Buddy Holly video. Mother had finally agreed, once I'd gotten my Hogwarts letter, that I could fix my eye-problem by magic... We'd gone into a small shop in Diagon Alley, and got some eye drops...Okay, I'm babbling now... I've got to go get ready for the party,

Hugs,

Mel

I closed my diary and cast a Secrecy Charm on it and rapidly shoved it beneath my robes in my trunk. I grabbed a deep mauve, satin dress and headed to the showers. I took a long, hot shower and then slipped into my dress. I returned to my dormitory to look for Lily. She wasn't in any of the girls' dormitories so I got a school robe and slipped it atop of my dress. I tip toed to the Common Room and scanned the room for my best friend.

She was there, nice and cosy, with her (long-awaited) boyfriend. I thought less of interrupting their precious time together. I decided to look for Sirius instead, I found him hard at work on a Potions assignment. His eyebrows were furrowed and his hair was messed up (more than it usually is). As I was walking over to him, he looked up and smiled, I waved and smiled back.

"What's wrong?" I asked looking down at his work, my wet hair sliding off my shoulders and into my face. Sirius grabbed one of my curls and played with it between his fingers. I felt somewhat comforted... He likes my hair?

"I don't understand what we have to write about in this assignment. Do we have to write how lacewings affect the potions or how you have to use lacewings in potions?"

"We have to write about how lacewings can change the outcome of a potion if not used properly." He gave me grateful look and kissed the tip of my nose.

"Thanks!"

"But, Sirius, why are you doing your assignment now? You have all weekend..."

"I know but we have detention tomorrow night and well, Sunday night...James, Remus, Peter and I are going to--well, we have something to do." I realised that Sirius and the Marauderers had business they wanted to finish off. Once a month, each of them leaves but only Sirius, James and Peter return. Remus only returns about a week later. I decided to ignore the odd circumstances, if it was dangerous, I'm sure Sirius would have told me...

"Oh, alright, I'm going to get ready for the party tonight, see you later!" I waved and I was off. On my way up the stairs leading to the girls' dormitories, I felt a tap on my shoulder.

"Oh! Hi Lils!"

Together Lily and I headed to our dormitory where Sheena and Azura had already started to get ready. Pulled my school robe off and reached for my make-up kit, just then,

"Wow! Melissa, when did you get that dress?" Lily, Azura and Sheen were looking at me loose-jawed and wide-eyed.

"Oh, I sneaked off to Hogsmeade last weekend and I know I should have told you guys but, I really wanted to surprise you," I explained.

"Don't worry about it," said Lily, whilst tapping my shoulder, "you look wonderful, it matches your beautiful eyes!"

I smiled happily; Lily always knows what to say...by now, she felt like the sister I never had.

I watched her expertly apply her make-up.

"Can I borrow your mascara?" I asked, suddenly. She handed it over and I swept the mascara wand over my long eyelashes.

"Should I put a Twinkling Charm on my eyes?" I asked, remembering Sirius' fascination with my eyes.

"Definitely, then you can cast that charm on our eyes, too," she suggested and the other girls nodded excitedly. I took my wand out from my robes, which were lying on my bed and cast the charm on myself. Lily raised the mirror and I looked at my eyes. The purple of my eyes was twinkling and some specs of blue were popping up occasionally. Cool...

I charmed everyone else's eyes and the charm was doing wonders on our self-esteem as well. We were finally ready and I had put an Anti-frizz Charm, a useful charm used to keep hair sleek and frizz-free, we left our dormitory and walked down the stairs into the Common Room.

Azura was wearing a periwinkle blue velvet dress that went all the way to the ground and Lily was wearing a simple emerald velvet dress. Sheena was wearing her usual pink cotton dress with flowers and I was wearing a mauve silk dress.

James, Remus, Peter and Sirius were waiting for us on one of the larger couches. Peter had gotten a date with Sheena who had only accepted because she was the only one without a date out Lily, Azura and I.

The men all stood up at the sight of us and straightened out their outfits. They all looked really great. Each had a different colour button-down shirt, James in navy, Remus in creamy beige, Peter in red and Sirius in, simple and always sexy, white.

We all were arm in arm with our lovely dates as we walked out of the portrait hole. James whipped out the map he, Sirius, Remus and Peter had made in fourth year.

"The coast is clear all the teachers are safely in their offices. Let's go."

We all headed to the mirror on the fourth floor. One by one, we slipped behind it and walked through the tunnel leading to the cellar of the Three Broomsticks. We took our chance to get out of the cellar when we heard a riot in the bar. We escaped the cellar unnoticed. We found a booth and settled down.

The young bartender, Miss Rosmerta, had graduated from Hogwarts only last year. We got some Butterbeer and immediately started chattering. As the night went by and as the empty rounds of Butterbeer multiplied, we laughed a lot more and by then end of the night we were all making out and laughing more than ever.

We stumbled through the bar and back into the cellar. On our way back through the tunnel, Sirius grabbed me into a hug and as I giggled he whispered in my ear,

"I love you." I stopped giggling and whispered the same in his ear. The rest of the night was a blur and how we got through the castle without being caught is a complete and total mystery.

~~Saturday Night~~

After dinner in the Great Hall, Sirius and I (hand in hand) proceeded to Professor Altwitch's office for our detention.

"Ah, Miss Ella, Mr. Black, right on time." His eyes flickered to our interlaced fingers and he continued,

"You will serve your detention in the old Arithmancy classroom. I will be using it for my tutorials. I want it thoroughly cleaned and I want you to set up a workstation for my third years, they're working on Red Caps!" With that Altwitch clapped his hands excitedly.

When we'd finally arrived to the Arithmancy classroom, there were other people in the room, and one of them wasn't a student...

My grip on Sirius' hand tightened.

A/N: I know CLIFFHANGER! But, you'll see, the third chapter is very short and will be up in no time at all. I hope you all liked the second chapter enough to review *hint*. Have a good day!
