Story Summary:
It's the last Valentine's Day hermione will have at Hogwarts. It has to be this year she gets something, anything. And (surprise surprise) she does. A VERY fluffy fic. Can be used, along with imagination, to create your personal favourite partner for Hermione. Hr/your choice.

Author's Note:
I wrote this while I was in a VERY bad mood. Strange, but this is what I produced...

Of all the ways to say 'I Love You'

Hermione awoke on February the 14th with a funny feeling in her stomach. This was to be her final Valentine's Day at Hogwarts. She'd cried at her last birthday and at her last Christmas; in private - of course.

She slipped on her robes and trod quietly over the deep blue carpet of her dormitory. It must have been early, the Common Room was deserted. She slumped into the chair by the fire and drew her knees up to her chest.

After being sat there for about five minutes, a sharp tapping noise made her jump. She quickly opened the window and let the school barn owl flutter onto the table, a note attached to its leg. She untied it and fed it a treat before releasing it into the biting February air.

She unfolded the note and her heart skipped a beat as she read it.

It was on plain parchment, the writing in black ink, surrounded by three small, simple hearts. The writing read:

I'm not the best at declarations of anything.

But I know you're there, in the chair by the fire and I knew I had to say it today.

I didn't know how to put it in words.

I've been wondering for weeks, maybe months whether I should say anything.

I've been taking note of the ways other people say it.

I though simplicity was the key.

Maybe chocolates, or even better, a single red rose.

Perhaps a balloon or a teddy bear.

Then I thought a heartfelt poem would do it.

But I can't rhyme to save my life.

I even flicked through 'Teen Witch Weekly'.

To try and find the perfect words.

So I decided that of all the ways to say 'I Love You'

You suited this one the most...

Hermione frowned, the writing stopped there. She looked puzzled and stared at the paper for a moment.

She was brought sharply out of her reverie by another tap on the window. She scrambled over and flung it open, grabbing the note off the owl before it passed the window ledge.

You should have read my note by now.

My plan was to send'it' with

this note.

I've decided that you deserve it in person.

I'll be at the lake, under the tree in five minutes.

If you come, I can do this.

If not, I'm spared being embarrassed in front of you.

My life wouldn't be worth living.

Five minutes.

Of all the ways to say I love you, you suited this one most...

Hermione folded this note and swallowed hard. In truth, she didn't have a clue who it was. She knew who she hoped it was, she didn't realise that she'd hoped it would be him, but she did. On reading those notes, she could only see one hand writing it. One artistic hand, with beautifully refined bones gripping the quill. One pair of slim shoulders hunched over the paper. The other hand running exasperatedly through hair the colour of...

She had to run. Now. She thrust the notes into her pocket and dashed out of the portrait. She skidded down the corridor and jumped the stairs. She got to the lake in less than a minute. She was early and the bank was deserted, save a small note pinned to the tree under which she had been told to wait.

She pulled it down and read quickly.

Close your eyes.

She did as she was told. She didn't even open them when she heard footsteps crunching through the frosty grass. She felt a hand laid on her shoulder. Her heart was fluttering somewhere in the region of her throat.

"I thought you wouldn't come."

The voice melted her heart. It was him. She knew it. She kept her eyelids tightly shut, lest it be a trick of her mind.

"Of course I came," she whispered in reply.

She let herself be turned around. She heard her her valentine breathe in deeply, mustering up courage. "Of all the ways to say 'I love you', you suited this one most..."

Hermione opened her eyes and looked at the ones reflecting her gaze.

"I love you."

Author notes: Love it? Hate it? Read it but don't know what to say? Put something whichever way! (And I'm getting prone to ryming without meaning to in these things. Please don't judge me on it!)
