"At last my love has come along"
Ginny thought her love had finally come along. That was until a few hours ago. Harry had come into her room at the Burrow and sat down on her bed. Ginny had been getting ready for their engagement party. Harry and Ginny had already announced their engagement and their wedding was a few weeks away. Ginny had been standing in her room in a silk slip. Ginny turned as Harry knocked on the door and let him in. She could tell by his eyes that something was wrong. He had a haunted look to him.
"Ginny, we need to talk." Harry was wearing his dress robes and looked handsome.
Ginny sat down on the bed next to him and kissed him softly on the mouth. "We can talk later." She began to push him down onto her bed.
Harry stopped her. "No we need to talk now. We could talk later, but we probably wouldn't."
Ginny stopped kissing Harry's neck and looked into his green eyes. "What's wrong Harry?"
"I need to tell you something. It's probably nothing, but I feel like you should know." Harry looked away from Ginny.
Ginny was genuinely worried now. "What is it love? You can tell me anything."
Harry got up from the bed and leaned against her dresser. "Last night I went to the Leaky Caldron."
"Yes, you told me. Did you have fun?" Ginny winked slyly at him.
"Gin, let me finish. I was there and I saw Cho there. We sat together and talked awhile. It got pretty late and I walked her home. Only I didn't leave her last night." Harry looked away from Ginny's eyes and stared at himself in the mirror.
"What are you trying to tell me, Harry?" Ginny's voice took a bitter edge and she walked behind Harry. She forced to him to face her.
"I slept with Cho last night." Harry felt Ginny's eyes were boring into him.
Ginny slapped his face. "How could you do that to me?"
"Ginny, I wasn't thinking. This is all just going so fast. We just got engaged and now we're getting married." Harry looked into Ginny's eyes, pleading with her.
"Get out." Ginny began shoving Harry out her bedroom door. "Just get away from me."
Harry turned and looked at her. "I still love you." Ginny shut the door in his face.
Now, an hour later, Ginny stood in the backyard of her home. Everyone had been coming up and congratulating her and Harry on their upcoming marriage. Ginny wanted to cry. Sirius had come up and hugged her, telling her how happy he was she was marrying Harry. Ginny hugged him a long time, wishing she didn't have to let go. Sirius was a man she respected. He was like a father to Harry and Ginny loved him. Harry kept looking over at her, wanting to say something to her. Everytime he tried to speak to her, she waved him off and walked away.
It was time for Harry or Ginny to make a speech about their wedding. Harry looked over at Ginny, seemingly at a loss for words. Ginny looked at Harry and put a hand on his arm, touching him for the first time since his confession. "May I speak, Harry?" Harry nodded. Ginny stepped forward.
"It's wonderful to have you all here. People who love me and some people who aren't sure how they feel about me." Ginny looked briefly at Harry. "I'm so proud to have you all here today to celebrate our upcoming wedding." Ginny took a deep breath and looked down at the floor. "But, I'm afraid there isn't going to be a wedding. Harry and I aren't getting married."
The crowd gasped and Harry stared at Ginny. Ginny looked around at the crowd and said, "I'm so sorry." Then she ran from the backyard, away from her childhood home. Harry followed after her. After a few minutes of running he caught up with Ginny.
"Stop, Ginny! Stop!" Harry grabbed Ginny by the arm and held her in place. "What just happened back there?"
"Harry, there was a decision to be made. You couldn't do it, so I did." Ginny was weeping openly.
"But I still love you, Gin." Harry said softly. He caressed the side of her face softly.
"Harry, I want to be your one and only. Are you ready for that?" Ginny looked into his eyes.
Harry couldn't say anything. Ginny looked at him and pulled off his mother's engagement ring. She placed it in his hand and walked away, into the night.
That was two years ago. Now Ginny was a successful Charms professor at Hogwarts. Ginny had taken the job after Harry and she had broken up. Hermione was the librarian there. Ron and she had gotten married a year earlier. Ron worked at the ministry with the rest of his brothers. Ginny had found happiness working at Hogwarts with the students. She still thought about Harry, but had been forcing herself to think of him less often. Little did Ginny know, things were about to change.
