He positioned himself before her, shielding her from the biting wind. Her arms clung to his torso in fear and her eyes pinched shut. The trees rustled around them, laughing, teasing, and mocking. He threw his shoulders back bravely and looked straight ahead. She kept her mind busy by listing the multiplication tables under her breath. Her breath tickled his neck causing him to lose concentration, which could become very dangerous. He shook his head and refocused before they were both hurt.

She had seen him do this so many times before, but she had always stayed in the sidelines, supporting him but never truly part of it. A person would think that she would be an active member in this thing that her best friend's life revolved around. His years were scheduled by it; you could practically make a calendar based on it. So now here she was, finally taking part, though she knew she was nothing but another burden.

She was becoming lightheaded and dizzy, even with her eyes closed. Even with him in front of her, the wind nipped her arms and cheeks. Her hair flew behind her, breaking free of the ponytail it was once trapped in. She leaned her head against his back breathing slowly. Nausea engulfed her and heat rushed to her face, contrasting the cold air rushing around them.

"Hermione," Harry said. "Open your eyes."

How Harry knew her eyes were closed was beyond her. Nevertheless Hermione hesitantly sat up straight and opened her eyes, out of trust in Harry. When she did she was welcomed with the most amazing sight. They were soaring in the blue autumn sky. Clouds danced past them and tree rested under them, forming a green mattress. The giant Hogwarts castle seemed tiny from this point of view.

She craned her neck to see further. She saw the Whomping Willow; it looked like a tiny Bonsai tree from where she was. To Harry's dismay, she loosened her grip around his waist.

She laughed with glee as Harry swung around trees and flew between clouds, her headache long forgotten. So this was flying, she couldn't remember why she never took part in it before. Scared of the unknown perhaps. But she wasn't anymore, which is what brought her to do something so out of character for her, she couldn't believe she had done it.

"Harry," she said. "Face me."

Harry stopped the broom in midair and turned his body around to face her. Before he could ask why she kissed him.

After recovering from his initial surprise he kissed her back. The sweet innocent kiss morphed into a fiery one. Raw emotions poured from their lips. Harry deepened the kiss and Hermione drowned into him. After a while she pulled back and smiled.

"Fly more," she whispered in his ear.

So he did. Hermione rested her chin on Harry's shoulder and closed her eyes, this time not out of fear but out of pure pleasure. She wrapped her arms around him once more and they flew for hours, taking breaks only to kiss.
