“Morning Ginny. Are you feeling better today?” Harry asked. He had been worried sick when Ginny fell during yesterday’s match. Hermione, obviously saw how worried he was and confronted him, asking whether he was in love with Ginny. It was crazy for Hermione to think this way. He treated Ginny like a little sister, though he knew that Ginny had had feelings for him long ago.

“Yeah, thanks Harry. Where’s Hermione?” Ginny replied sleepily. Harry, missing the sarcasm in Ginny’s tone, answered back that he didn’t know.

“Oh, alright. I’m tired, could you please leave?” Ginny said rudely. Harry bowed his head down, reminding Ginny of Dobby when he did something wrong.

“Sorry Harry. I’m feeling real moody, with my arm and all…” Ginny explained. Harry looked up at Ginny and gave her a grin.

“What’s that?” Harry pointed to the letter next to Ginny’s pillow. He slowly reached for it and, startled, Ginny pushed Harry away quite rudely and tore the letter right before his eyes, hurting her arms in the process.

“Are you ok? Who’s that letter from?” Harry asked curiously. Ginny did not reply and Harry left her to her own thoughts, deciding to go to look for Hermione instead. What Ginny did not know was that Harry had taken a peek at the shreds of paper on the floor and he saw, written in
Slytherin green ink, ‘Draco’…

It had been three days and Ginny was still in the Hospital Wing. Draco was worried, and missed her. He saw Weasley and Saint Potter going to the Hospital Wing to visit her and hoped that he could do the same, someday. The chance came, two hours later…

“Ouch Draco. My stomach hurts,” Crabbe came whining. Draco smirked. Crabbe had probably ate too much.

“Stop complaining. I would bring you to the Wing if I wasn’t busy,” Goyle told him. Draco looked behind him at Goyle. Yeah, he was real busy - eating the cupcakes and pumpkin pie he brought up.

“Come on, I’ll take you to the infirmary.” Draco pulled Crabbe up from the floor. It was a difficult task but he managed it.

Crabbe looked up to Draco, shocked. Draco rarely asked about them, let alone felt concern. Yet he was offering to bring Crabbe to the infirmary?

Draco was thanking Crabbe deep down. He was thankful that Crabbe was such a glutton. He had been hoping to find an excuse to go to the Wing and now was his chance…

“What seems to be the problem, Mr. Malfoy?” Madam Pomfrey asked in a concerned voice. Ginny looked up the moment she heard Madam Pomfrey say Draco’s name. True enough, she saw him. Yet Draco did not seemed to be there for her, and she was beginning to think that the letter had been a joke.

“Crabbe has an upset stomach,” Ginny heard him say. So, he was here because his lackey was hurt.

“Don’t worry. It’s probably indigestion. Lay him on a bed and I’ll take a look.” Ginny grinned slightly. With Crabbe’s size, Malfoy was going to have a hard time lifting him up.

Draco helped Crabbe climb up a bed near Ginny. He had to hide a grin as he saw how hard Crabbe tried to get on the bed whilst clutching his stomach. Draco turned and caught Ginny staring at them. He gave her a rare smile and was disappointed that she did not return the friendliness.

“Please wait a moment, Mr. Crabbe. I have to examine Ms. Weasley before she can leave.” Madam Pomfrey walked over to where Ginny was laying. Draco saw Madam Pomfrey poke and twist Ginny’s arm and Ginny was wincing in pain.

“I think you’re going to be okay; you might feel a little pain though. You may leave.” Ginny sat up and got behind the screen to change out of her Hospital robes. She came out from behind the screen and left, rubbing the sore spot where Madame Pomfrey had caused her pain when she inspected Ginny

“Now let me have a look at you, Mr. Crabbe. Can you help me Mr. Malfoy?” Madame Pomfrey turned and saw that Draco was long gone.

Draco hurried out the moment he saw Ginny leaving the Hospital Wing. She was right in front of him. He quickened his pace and soon was side-by-side with Ginny in the empty corridor.

“Oh, it’s you.” Ginny was shocked when she felt someone next to her, but it was only Draco.

“Actually, when you first see someone, you’re supposed to say hello,” Draco said teasingly.

“Oh. Hi.” Ginny walked faster, as if frightened of Draco.

“Wait Ginny! Are you scared of me?” he asked. When he saw that Ginny had slowed down, he caught up with her.

“Thanks for the letter, Malfoy. I… Really have to go.” Ginny started to walk to the direction of the Gryffindor common room. Draco wanted to follow her but saw Harry Potter instead.

“Morning Ginny. You’re out of the Wing!” Harry said, full of concern. Draco’s heart sank as he saw how Ginny’s face lit up just for Harry.

“Oh, it’s you.” Harry caught sight of Draco. He looked from Draco to Ginny and Ginny to Draco. “Going to the Common Room?” Harry asked Ginny. What suspicions he got, he did not show. Ginny nodded and Harry took her hand in his and left. Harry turned back to stare at Draco and Draco felt angrier than he had ever been before.

Before he could follow them, he felt a peck on his head and saw Pix. Father must have had a letter for him. Draco wondered if it was about Pansy’s threat. He dismissed the thought of following Ginny and marched to his dorm, with Pix behind him.

**************************

“I think you owe me an explanation.” Ginny had never seen Harry look so stern before.

“What?” Ginny was acting innocent.

“Why was he with you?”

“Who?” Ginny asked again, pretending she knew nothing.

“Malfoy that’s who. Why was he with you? Are you two... Are you two together?” Harry asked, hoping that Ginny would say no.

“That’s ridiculous. No, Mr. Harry Potter . We are not together.”

“Then why?”

“Must I tell you everything? Who are you? My brother? Please! It’s none of your business,” Ginny said angrily. She was frustrated with both Harry and herself.

“Ginny, you know you are a sister to me. I’m just curious as to why he was with you. Draco Malfoy. In case you’ve forgotten, his father was the one who gave you Riddle’s diary. If you don’t remember, he takes joy in humiliating your family.” Harry softened his tone.

“So? Just leave me alone.”

“No I won’t. I’m just as stubborn as you are.” Harry was determined to fish out whatever was going on with Ginny and Malfoy. ‘Oh no!’ Harry thought. Ginny’s ears were turning crimson, a bad sign.

“It is always like that. None of you really cared about me. It was just the ‘little sister’ thing that made you all feel like you should be concerned. When something comes up, then you all think about me. Why aren’t I worthy of your attention the rest of the time?”

“No Ginny. We were really concerned. We never treat you as a sister. We treat you as a friend, just like us. You are one of us.” Harry didn’t know why Ginny was making such a big deal.

“Just leave me alone!” Ginny stormed up the girls’ dorm. She knew Harry would spent the night in Hermione’s dorm (prefects had their own dorm). When she heard the door slam, she started to weep silently…

********************

Draco,
Pansy Parkinson has sent a letter to me with devastating (or rather happy) news. You have started on our plan to lure out either Weasley or Granger. I am pleased with your choice (Ginny Weasley). Even though she comes from a poor, muggle-loving family, she is a pureblood and that counts for something. However, please be reminded that time is low and the Dark Lord is getting anxious as each day goes by. Have you gotten any news about anything? Severus told me the old fool is planning a ball, promoting ‘Anti-Death Eater’ spirit. I almost laughed my teeth off when I heard of it. I hope that you can get Weasley as your date.
I am going to end this letter. I can’t tell you how pleased I was when I received Parkinson’s letter and don’t worry. I’ve told her I approved of it and that I will make sure that brainless girl will not ruin our marvelous plan. Congratulations again,
Lucius

Draco read and reread the letter. Pansy did something good for once? Lucius was pleased with him? Was encouraging him to go further? It was wonderful news, really, but Draco was sure he was going to have a hard time asking Ginny out to the ball. Maybe he ought seek help from ‘the
old fool’.

“Hermione, have you seen Ginny lately?” Harry asked worriedly.

“No dear. Let’s not bother about her. She probably just broke up with another boyfriend.”
Harry stared at Hermione, the woman he once so loved. She changed. She used to care about books and friends. Now, books and Harry meant more than friends. She never cared how worried Harry and Ron were when Ginny was injured. Hermione never went to the Wing to visit Ginny. Never. How Harry missed the past! When Hermione, Ron and himself were together, breaking rules, ruining Voldemort’s plans, Hermione and Ron bickering, him trying to break them up, Hermione’s constant nagging about homework and tests, Ron’s and his grumbling.

“A knut for your thoughts?” Hermione put her hands on Harry’s shoulders.

“Actually my thoughts are worth ten galleons,” Harry joked. Hermione smiled weakly. She disappeared under a pile of
books, leaving Harry to his ‘ten-galleons worth’ thoughts…

****************************

“Professor, I got a letter from my father and…” Draco had gone to Dumbledore’s office right after dinner.

“And you need my help?” Dumbledore asked with a twinkle of his eyes.

“Professor!” Draco guessed that he had used his Legilimens skills.

“I was just testing whether you practiced your Occlumency,” Dumbledore replied innocently.

“So you need my help into asking Ginny to the ball?” Dumbledore pressed on. Draco nodded numbly.

“Fine, I’ll give you a chance to ask her now. Let her know I want to talk to her.” Draco left Dumbledore’s office, thanking Dumbledore as he set off to the direction of the Gryffindor common room.

**************************

Something was definitely wrong. Draco Malfoy was pacing up and down the corridor leading to the Gryffindor.common room. ‘What evil was he up to this time?’ Harry thought. Harry glanced down at his watch. Draco had been there for about thirty minutes already; any longer and he was going to be dizzy. When Draco heard the sound of someone walking down the corridor, he glanced up and Harry saw his face light up. Harry looked up and, to his horror, he saw Ginny walking towards him.

“Ginny.” Harry heard Draco speak.

“What?” Ginny replied in an irritated tone.

“Professor Dumbledore wishes to see you,” Draco told her.

“For…?” Draco shrugged his shoulders and Ginny turned and left.

What an odd conversation, Harry thought. It probably proved that there was nothing between Draco and Ginny. However, Harry thought, he’d better keep his eyes open, just in case…

**************************

“Did you ask to see me Professor?” Ginny went up to the Headmaster’s office immediately after Draco told her that Dumbledore was looking for her. Albus nodded. He looked stern and Ginny wanted to know what she had done wrong.

“As you know Ms. Weasley, there is an upcoming ball and may I ask if you had a partner yet?” Dumbledore asked.

“Colin has asked me but I have not yet agreed.”

“If that is the case, would you go with Malfoy?” Albus asked carefully.

“Who?” Ginny was sure she heard the Headmaster incorrectly.

“Draco Malfoy.”

“The Slytherin? Lucius Malfoy’s son? Draco Malfoy?” Ginny was shocked.

“Please remain calm. Mr. Malfoy is a spy for the Order.”

“The next thing that you’re going to say is that Parkinson, Crabbe and Goyle are spies as well.” Ginny asked, half jokingly.

”Yes, they are. But they are also under control of Lord Voldemort. Unlike Draco.”

“I don’t believe you.” Ginny shook her head, unable to register what she was hearing.

“Yes. It’s true. Snape is now teaching Draco Occlumency. Please do not let Harry or the others know...”

“Why are you telling me this?” Ginny asked, still shocked.

Dumbledore took out the letters Lucius wrote to Draco and showed it to Ginny. He watched as Ginny’s expression turned into fear. Albus then took hold of Ginny’s trembling hand and asked her to take a look at his Pensieve.

Ginny saw how Draco asked to be in the good side, admitting the evils his father done, admitting that he had a crush on the only daughter of Arthur Weasley... Ginny was still in shock when she saw the Dark Mark, on Draco’s arm. She then yelled and pushed herself out of the Pensieve.

“Professor, it was a joke...”
