Chapter 5

At the breakfast table, she gave Draco a few smiles everytime he looked at her. And he looked at her a lot, her outfit seemed to have fulfilled its point.

After breakfast, Draco went to Hogsmeade to wait for Sarah in front of the Three Broomsticks. He didn't have to wait for long, because she arrived about 5 minutes later than him. She looked so g...different in those clothes. Okay, she was damn hot. But in a very cute way and that was the bit which worried him. At the breakfast table he had noticed that the sparkle had returned to Sarah's eyes, the sparkle he had loved about her when they were kids. He hadn't seen it since then. She had changed a lot. There was nothing cheerful about her. But he knew that she'd always loved Christmas and now this love for Christmas had brought back the happiness to her eyes. There was still a sad bit in there, he could feel it, but he was glad that Christmas had banned it to the backrow temporarily.

"Hey Miss Slytherin!" he said cheekily. "You look very...um... Sarah today. Very Sarah Costa."

She grinned. "Oh, Mr Prince of Slytherin, why, what a compliment. I always wanted to look like me. And look at you, you look so much like Draco Malfoy. On his better days that is."

"Yes, I have to admit that this is one of my better days so far. I hope you can accomplish that it remains like this."

She winked at him and smiled. He assumed that was a yes. He watched her for a few moments, while she looked at the Christmas decorations that were all over Hogsmeade. She seemed to be so full of joy just looking at the decorations that he almost didn't dare to disturb her. He did it anyways, he was still Draco Malfoy after all.

"Sarah, we'll pass more decorations than you can look at once we get going. I really need to do some shopping. You wanna help me pick something for my mum?"

Sarah smiled. "Your mum. How is Narcissa? I hope she's not too bad. Is she missing Lucius?" Draco shrugged his shoulders.

"I don't know, but she's very well. Let's go to the shop for things you usually just get at Knockturn Alley. I'll find something there."

Sarah shook her head. "No, no, no! Narcissa isn't into that stuff, I still know her a bit. She pretended to be, for Lucius. But if you want to make her happy, buy her a nice bone china tea set." Draco grinned at the thought of his mum having tea with her imaginary friends, dressed up in a pink princess costume. But then he thought it was a good idea. They went to a shop called "Mme Norrington's kitchen shop". They had all sorts of tea sets. The most repulsing thing was bone china made of Muggles' bones. The little old lady behind the counter was really friendly though and helped them find a suiting present for Narcissa. They ended up buying one with small Dragons on it, that breathed fire to keep the tea hot. After that, they went to have a glass of Hot Butterbeer in the Three Broomsticks and talked mainly about school. When Draco asked Sarah about her parents, however, she just ignored him and acted as if she hadn't heard him. Then he suggested to show Sarah the Shrieking Shack, but she wanted to stay in Hogsmeade and enjoy the Christmas mood. Draco wasn't a big fan of Christmas, because his parents had never made much fuss about it, but he enjoyed watching others go nutters at this time of the year. They sat down on a bench next to Honeyduke's and Sarah let her eyes glide from light to light, from Christmas tree to Christmas tree. Draco cleared his throat. "Look, Sarah, I know you don't want to talk about it and I know that it is none of my business, but I got the feeling that you HAVE to tell me why you don't want to talk about your parents! I promise, I won't judge you on that. I know you good enough to know that whatever reason it is, it can't be ridiculous."

Sarah gulped. No, it certainly wasn't ridiculous. It was...horrible. SHE was horrible. She couldn't talk about it, even though she felt that it would improve her whole situation if someone just listened to her and told her that she'd done the right thing. But she didn't dare. She wasn't ready to tell anyone yet. So she just shook her head and looked at Draco.

"No, Draco, it is no concern of yours. I will tell you all in time. Don't ask me when it will be, I don't know. In the meantime, why don't you remind me just how beautiful the world can be?" She managed a weak smile.

"How am I supposed to do that? Tell you a fairy tale?"

"I'm not sure what I meant by that myself, but a fairy tale is not the real world, is it?"

"Hang on, I got an idea! Come on, stand up! Give me your hand and close your eyes. Let me guide you. You have to trust me though!"

Sarah laughed. "Trust you? Oh my. That just shows me what the world has come to, if a Malfoy tells you to trust them. Never mind, go on then." She closed her eyes and gave Draco her hand. He let her walk in circles first, so she wouldn't know the direction they were heading and then had her walk about 30 foot. When she stood he let go of her hand and said: "Okay now open your eyes slowly." She did what he asked her to and found herself standing in a doorway. She looked at him, wearing a big question mark on her face and stated sarcastically: "Oh, how beautiful. A doorway. I am stunned, Draco, do you have more of that? How about one with a glass door? Or a...hmpf..." Draco had already put his hand across her mouth before she could continue and slowly let go when she had stopped complaining.

"Look above," he said.

Sarah looked up. Her eyes became wide when she realised what she saw. She looked at Draco. "Is this...?"

"A mistletoe, yes." And with that he kissed her softly, yet passionately. She sunk into the kiss and found that it wasn't that hard to forget the world around her for a while after all. When they seperated after what seemed hours, she smiled at him. "Thanks."

"Your welcome." He took her hand and they walked through Hogsmeade, silently, as if careful not to break something by speaking. It was awkward. How could something that was so right feel so wrong? She had enjoyed every second of the kiss, but now she felt bad about it. Bad, because she knew this couldn't last long, because she knew that she'd have to cheat on him too soon. So she decided to leave it there.

"Draco?" She let go of his hand. He looked at her in a way that stated that he knew what she was going to say. "It's okay, it wasn't serious anyway. Let's be the kids we were 10 years ago again." He didn't smile when he said that but Sarah knew that it was a friendly offer.

"Draco," she began again, "I can't be the child I was 10 years ago. A lot has happened in my life since then and... I've changed. A lot. A hell of a lot actually." Draco nodded. He had already noticed that. But that was why he wanted to be with her, to protect her from all evil, to hug her, to know everything that had happened. But she wouldn't tell him. There was another secret, he knew that. There was something else beside the thing with her parents, which she wouldn't tell him. And it had something to do with the day when she went missing and he found her in the forest. "It's okay, Sarah, come here." He opened up his arms to hug her.

"No, Draco, I don't want to be hugged. Sorry. You can't solve problems by hugging."

Enough. There was only so much rejection a man could take. And a Malfoy didn't do "No"s at all. "Well, I hope you choke to death on your damn problems then!" he shouted and then stomped off, leaving a confused Sarah behind.
