Staring ahead of me, I saw a wall. I took in a deep breath, trying to calm my nerves. Honestly, did people really expect me to run straight into a wall, hoping that I do not fall flat on my face like an idiot? Then again, I had just seen other people do it, had I not?

What was I fretting over, anyway? I am magical. I am pureblood, down to the very core. I have no reason to be scared. Ha! I am fearless. I will show that wall that I am not afraid. Besides, why in the name of Salazar Slytherian would somebody name a wall "Platform 9 ¾"? I mean, is it not directly in between Platform 9 and 10? Why not call it "Platform 9 ½"?

Slowly I looked up at my Mother, who just happened to be standing directly behind me. Patrice must be the most gorgeous woman to bless this world. Her light brown hair and bright blue eyes caught the attention of men and women alike. Father was standing beside her, looking at me with a stern stare. He did not want to be here, but after much persuasion from Mother, he finally gave in. Mum bent down and kissed the top of my head while running her fingers through my black waves once.

"Good luck. Owl us tonight to let us know the results of the sorting." She smiled carefully and gave my back a little push to urge me toward the wall.

I swallowed another sharp intake of breath, hoping that Father failed to see my nervousness. Maybe I could not really do this. Seriously, is this normal? I mean running through walls, and these ridiculous fears? No, I need to do this, no matter what. I took off in a sprint toward the wall, pushing a very large cart containing my things, in front of me. Closing my eyes before reaching my destination, I feared the worst. When I did not stop abruptly or fall on my butt, I opened my eyes. I became amazed at what I was seeing before me. There were a large number of people crowded beside this mammoth train that had Hogwarts Express engraved into its side. They were all crying and embracing each other. I had never seen anything like it before. I did not have any idea that people could become so emotional. I rolled my eyes and made my way to the train. I left my cart in the same area as everybody else, but I took my shoulder bag that I had on my back with me. I was carrying my uniform in it. It would not turn out well if I forgot that.

Not watching where I was going caused me to, somewhat, run into somebody. The person made a grunting noise that I do not think I had ever heard before. I looked to the ground to see a girl about my age with long red hair. She looked up at me and smiled. I am sure that she expected me to help her up, but I did not. A look of slight shock crossed her face, before pushing herself from the ground and wiping the front of her pants off. Come on. I mean, honestly, she did not fall on her knees, so what is the point of wiping off the front instead of her back? Shaking my head slightly, I started to walk away. She hurried to stand in front of me, forcing me to stop. This annoyed me a little.

"Hello. I'm Lily Evans. What's your name?" She had this goofy grin on her face and seemed very nervous. She stuck out her hand as if she, again, expected me to touch her. You would think she got the message the first time. I simply looked at her hand. Glancing past her, I figured I might as well tell her my name, and then leave. I did not want to her start thinking I was interested in being her friend or anything.

"Achindra Lewis." I said coldly, walking past her, hoping that she got the hint. I could just imagine the look of disbelief that must have appeared on her face. The thought of it makes me laugh.

Figuring I should find a place to sit on the train, I climbed inside and headed to the back. Suddenly I roughly was turned around to face an unknown person, by a hand on my shoulder. Before me stood a tall looking person with look white-blond hair and a pointed face. He had this arrogant smirk on his face. I already did not like him. I shrugged his hand off my shoulder.

"Don't touch me." I started to turn around walk away when he, again, grabbed my shoulder, rougher this time. I glared up at him, but he was not fazed. I grabbed his wrist and removed his hand.

"Listen little squirt, you don't tell me what to do." I simply rolled my eyes and looked up at him waiting for him to continue. "I saw how you acted with the red head out there. That was pretty Slytherin of you, so you're sitting with us.." Again, with the arrogant smirk. I gave a small snort and walked away. This time, he did not try to stop me.

I found an empty compartment near the very back and settled in. Looking out the window and noticed that the platform had cleared out; the train would be leaving any minute. Just has it had started to move, the door to my compartment opened. I looked up. My day just became worse. A certain little red head was standing in the doorway.

"May I sit here?" Unfortunately, she had already begun to close the door and sit across from me. That annoying smile on her face never goes away, does it?

"No." I looked up at her sternly, hoping that she understood that I meant it. Then, she laughed. I watched her, despairingly. What did I ever do to deserve this? I just gave up and looked out the window not really thinking about anything in particular. She just talked, babbling on and on, never seeming to shut up. After a few minutes, though it felt a lot longer, she stopped.

"Oh my! I need to go find Severus!" Suddenly she stood up and hurried out of the compartment.

Raising an eyebrow and shaking my head, I closed my eyes hoping to catch a few hours of sleep. Of course, I was unsuccessful. This was going to be a very long day.

The train finally came to a stop. During the ride, all I had managed to do was change into my robes and sit, staring out the window. Getting off the train, I noticed a very big man. Huge actually. He was hairy and quite disgusting looking.

"Firs' years, this way!" He kept yelling that same statement. I looked around me, shrugged my shoulders and walked toward the man, albeit somewhat reluctantly. I was not unconvinced his stink wouldn't stick.

He introduced himself as Hagrid - what kind of a name is that? - and told us to sit in the boats that were lined up in the water. Being the first one on a boat did not turn out as well as I had hoped. To my great displeasure, the red head and some black haired boy came into my boat. She looked all too eager to sit with me. I glared at her, and then looked at the boy. He was staring at the Evans girl through a window of greasy hair. I took in his demeanor. His skin was pale and his eyes were dark. Everything about him was, well, dark. I loudly cleared my throat, not that I wanted her attention, but she was being very rude not introducing the black haired boy to me. She looked up and, annoyingly, smiled.

"Oh right. Severus this is..." However, I cut her off.

"I am Achindra Lewis." I gave the boy my best smirk. "And you are?"

"Severus Snape." He had an 'I don't care who you are' attitude about him. I liked him already. I blinked at him, growing curious. He gulped and again started listening to Evans, looking to her instead of me. I rolled my eyes once again and turned forward to scrutinize the looming building up ahead.

I had seen pictures of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry before, but the actually thing was amazingly brilliant. It was huge and almost looked like it could be haunted. The building seemed to have an almost eerie atmosphere. Obviously, it was old. The inside would be wonderful; I just knew it.

I was right, of course. The inside was, honestly, the most amazing thing I had ever seen, minus the outside. Sconces littered the stone walls of the Entrance Hall, holding candles that were lit to produce a shining, unwavering light. The entire area had an antique air to it. If it was dark then the place would certainly be more than slightly creepy, but with light, it was intriguing. Once my curiosity had subsided, I looked up to notice an older woman standing in front of us first years. The woman wore square-framed glasses, with her hair hidden under a large witch hat, and a stern look on her face. I suppressed a giggle when I noticed that her lips were in a tight line as she looked over all of us.

"Attention. Everybody look up here!" Looking around them rather impatiently, she awaited their undivided attention. She quickly received it. "Very well. My name is Professor McGonagall. You should know a few things first, before you enter the Great Hall. Hogwarts is divided into four houses: Slytherin, Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, and Ravenclaw. When I call your name, you are to proceed through these doors and you will be sorted." Without another word, she turned around and walked through the massive door, leaving them to their fate.

The others buzzed as they contemplated the mysterious sorting. My mother had told me about some talking hat, but for the life of me, I could not remember just what that had to do about being sorted. I waited - not so patiently - as the names of students were called out. Lily Evans walked through the doors once she heard her name called. Within a couple of minutes, I heard a voice yell out that she would be in Gryffindor. I shook my head and rolled my head. I knew she would probably be in Gryffindor, with how annoying she was. Everyone knew how Gryffindors were; obnoxious, foolish, everything that I was not. After a few more minutes of waiting, I heard my name.

I took and deep breath and headed toward the Professor. Candles were floating around the room and the ceiling looked like the night sky. Dark clouds scattered across the sky and a star twinkling here and there. Beside the Professor sat a stool with a very old and very large hat. Once I reached my destination, the hat was removed and I sat upon the stool. Not even a second after the hat covered my eyes did it yell out the word I was desperately expecting.

"Slytherin!" I just knew Mother and Father would be proud when I told them the news. A smirk crossed my face, as a table of students dressed in black and green started to cheer. I made my way to the table and sat diagonally from the blond boy from earlier. He looked at me and smirk that arrogant smirk that I found myself hating so much.

Student after student went by. Each was sorted, and each time the hat rang out clearly Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, or Slytherin. Finally, the black haired boy, Severus Snape, was ready to be sorted. The old talking hat sat on his head for mere seconds before yelling out Slytherin. He sat down beside the blonde-haired person and looked over at me. I glanced up at the Gryffindor table and saw Evans with a disgustingly disappointed frown on her face. Ha! I knew that girl could not smile all the time.

The noise level in the Great Hall was nothing short of deafening. I could only catch bits and pieces of conversations; everything ranging from summer in Italy to who will be Hogwarts' newest Seventh year beauty now that What's-her-name is gone. I glanced over to look at the arrogant blond boy from ealier. Sitting beside him was this beautiful girl with long blond hair and blue eyes. He had his face close to her ear, obviously whispering something. Next thing I knew, she was putting her hand over her mouth trying to suppress a giggle. It was quite refreshing. It wasn't anything like the annoying giggles of the Lily Evans girl, this was more like a confident giggle. It seemed that this girl knew what this guy thought of her and liked it. Nothing nervious and friendly about it. I continued to watch her. When she finally felt eyes on her, she turned her head in my direction. Once her eyes found mine, she a beautifully blinding smile.

"Hey. Isn't that the girl from the train you were telling me about?" She asked the boy.

"The exact one." He looked over at me and glared. Ignoring him I looked back to the girl and smiled.

"I am Achindra Lewis. And you are?"

The girl shook her head slightly and looked from the boy to me. "I'm Narcissa Black. Fifth year. And this is..." However, before she could finish the boy cut her off.

"Malfoy. Lucius Malfoy. Sixth year." Him and that stupid arrogant smirk.

To be honest, I did not look at him. I completely ignored him. Does he really think that I care about who he is? Malfoy or no Malfoy, Pureblood or no Pureblood, I do not like his face, so I am not going to look at him. A clearing of the throat could be heard from upon the stage. Obviously, somebody was trying to get our attention. I looked up and saw an old man. He had long white hair and a beard long enough to give hair to six balding men. Albus Dumbledore. According to Father, Dumbledore has always been one of those men, who loves Muggles. He put his wand to his throat and started to speak.

"Greetings, students, new and old! We start this new school year with new news. Due to personal reasons, our previous Defense Against the Dark Arts professor will be unable to teach this year. Therefore, I would like it if you would all welcome Professor Apollo to head your battle against those whom would threaten our magical society."

The new Professor, I must admit, looked less than pleasant with his dark wardrobe, and cruel grimace. The other students clapped politely, but I simply sat there and stared, waiting for the speech to continue. I noticed not many of the actual people around me had clapped, either. Naturally, it was expected of the Slytherins.

"On another note, Madam Pince would like me to remind you to please return her books in mint condition. We would not want any accidents, especially after last year. In addition, Madam Pomfrey has informed me that although the Hospital Wing will be open as needed, she does not wish for you to make it a permanent home. Please do not, and I repeat, do not, be in the halls or outside of this school building after hours, or you will be serving detintion with Mr. Filch. Lastly, the Forbidden Forest is, exactly as its name implies, forbidden. Now, flibbity gibbet and howdy doo, please tuck in!"

Suddenly, food appeared, covering the large tables. The sound of metal clashing against metal, and voices fighting over who would get the first butter roll, filled the room.
