Chapter 1

"Breakaway" - Kelly Clarkson

"Grew up in a small town

And when the rain would fall down

I'd just stare out my window"

Ginny stared out her window and looked at the stars. It was raining. She loved the rain, but only when she was inside, looking out - she hated being in the rain. She looked around her room, where both her worldly possessions and memories lay. They were all packed away in a trunk, waiting to accompany her on her way to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

It wasn't as if she was scared about school. She was already in her sixth year.

"Dreaming of what could be

And if I'd end up happy

I would pray..."

Last year, so many things happened. Percy became a Death Eater. Bill, her father, and so many others died in the war. Now, only the Death Eaters who weren't caught are a threat. It seemed they were now following a different leader, though no one would tell Ginny a thing. Over the summer, they have been attacking, still wanting all Muggles and Mudbloods out of here. What if they attack Hogwarts?

And Ginny wondered what would've happened if some things weren't true. What if Harry hadn't stopped Voldemort (yes, Ginny is now accustomed to say his name)? What if the Dark Lord did manage to get the Sorcerer's Stone? What if Harry never saved her in the Chamber of Secrets? What about Sirius? What if he never died? What if Cedric never died? There were so many possibilities.

Ginny wondered what would come of all of this. Will she live through the many things to come? She could only pray...

"Trying hard to reach out

But when I tried to speak out

Felt like no one could hear me

Wanted to belong here

But something felt so wrong here

So I'd pray

I could break away..."

She sighed and laid her head against the pillow. She remembered yesterday at the order meeting. She had asked her mother that, since she was the age Ron had came, if she could come to the meeting. Of course, the answer was no. This time, Ginny didn't get all angry. Because she found that she could hear the meeting perfectly from her bedroom.

She heard it all when she furiously sat on her bed and wished that she could hear what they were saying. All of a sudden, Snape's voice had filled her mind. After the initial shock of hearing Snape's voice, she focused he mind on listening to the speech, which talked about how the Death Eaters had gained the Vampires's and Werewolves's trust, and that 'we', as in the order and ministry, should hurry to gain the Giant's trust - and to use a different method to guard the prisoners of Azkaban. Of course Ginny knew that the Giants and Dementors would be very bad in the Death Eater hands. So, she agreed silently with Snape.

Yet, she wondered why she couldn't just be in the meeting. I mean, I'm only a year younger than Harry, Ron and Hermione - and they are in the Order. I was the one who was possessed, I can handle pressure!

But, maybe that was it. Was it that her parents didn't want her to try to handle all this talk of the elder Tom's followers? Well, she didn't care. She just wished she felt that she belonged here. No one ever talked to her about anything. Not even the Golden Trio.

It was annoying. And hurtful.

(Chorus)

"I'll spread my wings and I'll learn how to fly.

I'll do what it takes till I touch the sky.

Make a wish, take a chance,

Make a change, and break away...

Out of the darkness and into the sun.

But I won't forget all the ones that I love.

I'll take a risk, take a chance,

Make a change, and break away..."

She wanted to do what the Muggle song "Breakaway", by Kelly Clarkson, says. She wanted out of here. She wanted to do something. Something to get attention and to feel like she belonged. Yet what?

~~~
Ginny sat outside the shop, waiting for her mother and Hermione to come out. They were shopping for dress robes for the Graduation Ball this year. Hermione, of course, will probably go with Ron (they are together as of last month). Ginny wasn't sure if she could go: a seventh year must take the younger year to the ball; otherwise it was strictly seventh years.
Ginny was listening to her radio - with headphones, of course (Muggle music in Diagon Alley - not the right way to go). Kelly Clarkson, "Breakaway", was on.
"Wanna feel the warm breeze
Sleep under a palm tree
Feel the rush of the ocean
Get onboard a fast train
Travel on a jet plane
Far away
And break away...
(Chorus)"
She silently mouthed the words, knowing this was exactly what she wanted.
"Buildings with a hundred floors
Swinging with revolving doors
Maybe I don't know where they'll take me
Gotta keep movin on movin on
Fly Away
Break away...
(Chorus)
Breakaway
Break away..."
She sighed. She then heard Hermione calling her into the shop. She turned her radio off, then entered the shop, awaiting her mother's dumb dresses to try on.
Author notes: Sorry about the year change - I know that, since Ginny is 16, the year would be 1997, and "Breakaway" wasn't a song back then, but just use your imagination (if you don't have one, you shouldn't be reading Harry Potter). Oh, and same thing with Europe probably not having Kelly Clarkson as an artist (though I'm not sure). Review! (both good and bad helps - I enjoy criticism, it helps me write better.)
