A faint snore could be heard from the corner of the Gryffindor common room. It was the middle of first term, but for Harry Potter, now a seventh year at Hogwarts, it meant N.E.W.T preparation, day and night. Harry was halfway through a particularly difficult Transfiguration essay when he dozed off, the clock chiming three am.
A raucous clangor in the portrait hole awoke Harry to a thoroughly exhausted Hermione Granger, bag crammed with books. She heaved her bag next to the table and slumped into the chair next to Harry's, resting her head on his shoulder.
"So much studying to do." Hermione stifled a yawn. "I cannot fail these N.E.W.T.s."
Harry put his arm around her and kissed her on the forehead. "Don't stress so much. We have nearly seven months to prepare."
"But...all the homework..."
Harry pulled her into a warm hug, which relaxed her instantly. She's so cute when she's stressed, he thought inwardly.
"Look, it's late. Tomorrow's Saturday. We can do the rest of our homework on Sunday. You have worked way too hard these past weeks and you're taking a day off tomorrow." He rested his head on hers. "It's a Hogsmeade weekend. Just you and me, whatever you want to do."
Hermione smiled. "I'd like that." She kissed him. As she pulled out of the kiss, she noticed something stir on the floor beside the fire.
"Harry...is that Ron?"
At the mention of his name, Ron awoke with a start, nearly tearing his Potions essay in half. Noticing the lot of homework he still had yet to do, he scowled. "What time is it?" he asked Harry.
Harry looked up at the clock. "Nearly four," he replied. "I'm going to bed." He got up, kissed Hermione goodnight, and trudged sleepily upstairs to his dormitory.
Hermione turned to Ron.
"I missed you today. We had none of the same classes." She got up from her chair and moved to lay next to Ron on the floor. She leaned in and hissed him hard, with enough passion to make an emotionless man swoon.
Ron took the kiss eagerly, wrapping his arms around her neck and back, wrapping his legs around hers. She leaned in harder, stroking his back, and he rolled on top of her, kissing her with a passionate force.
"Abandoned storage closet in the South Tower?" suggested Ron.
"Right now," replied Hermione, with a giggle.
Harry awoke the next morning feeling tired but excited for his trip to Hogsmeade with Hermione. He dressed quickly and walked over to Ron's four-poster to wake him up, but he wasn't there. Probably already in the Great Hall, he thought.
He was already in the Great Hall, along with Hermione. If Harry thought he was tired, it was nothing compared to how Hermione and Ron must've felt. They looked as though they hadn't got a wink of sleep.
"Hermione, you okay?" Harry asked as he sat down at the Gryffindor table. Ron had nodded off to sleep in his bowl of porridge.
"Mmpf," she answered as she slumped onto his shoulder.
"What were you doing all night?"
Hermione was suddenly alert. "Oh...you know. Homework. Forgot about my Charms homework. Practice...the basic stuff..." she yawned. "Engorgement charms. Levitation..." she nearly dozed off.
"You sure you want to go to Hogsmeade today? We could always go next time."
"No, actually, I'm really tired. But I don't want to ruin your visit," she added apologetically.
"No it's alright. I'll go, you stay here and sleep. I'll come by and check on you later." He gave her a kiss on the cheek and left with the rest of the crowd going to Hogsmeade.
Hermione grabbed a piece of toast with marmalade and shook Ron awake. "I'm going upstairs. Want to come?"
"Mm? Yeah hold on," he said, shoving a last bit of bacon into his mouth.
In the common room, Ron climbed the stairs to his dormitory. As a last minute decision, Hermione quickly ate the toast and followed Ron, curling up next to him in his four-poster. Ron was already asleep.
Hermione wrapped her arms around his stomach and buried her face in the crook of his neck, falling asleep almost as quick as he did.
Since Hermione and Ron weren't there with him, Harry had decided to visit Hogsmeade with Dean and Seamus. What a mistake that was. Being seventeen but acting no older than 13, all they did was point out which girl was hotter than the other. Harry, having a steady girlfriend, didn't care much for this, and quickly became bored.
Finally, while Dean and Seamus were checking out a particularly attractive young Auror in Honeydukes, Harry decided to make a run for it. He snuck out through the trapdoor in the Honeydukes cellar, explaining to the guys that he was going to look for something in the back, and emerged half an hour later behind the statue of the old witch.
He wandered around the school for awhile, firstly deciding to sit in the library, but was soon thrown out by Madam Pince for not doing anything in particular.
He finally decided to check on Hermione. He walked upstairs to Gryffindor tower. "Dragon Scales," he said to the Fat Lady.
"Lad, I wouldn't go up to your dormitory if I were you."
Unfortunately, this made Harry all the more eager to go up to his dormitory. "Please open up," he said and the Fat Lady reluctantly swung open her portrait. Harry clambered through the hole and rushed up to his dormitory, where he met a rather emotionally painful sight.
There was Ron, in his four-poster, but he wasn't alone. Hermione was there with him.
A wave of fury rushed through Harry, and he seized Ron by the neck and yanked him out of his bed. Hermione woke up, and when she saw what was happening, screamed and jumped out of Ron's bed.
"HARRY, STOP IT!!"
Harry was nearly choking Ron to death. His face had turned purple.
"So, thought you'd sleep with my girlfriend while I was away, didn't you? Confunded her into liking you, eh?" Harry continued to strangle Ron.
"No Harry! I'm not confunded! Will you STOP THAT??!"
Harry finally dropped Ron onto the floor, where he lay in a heap, gasping for breath. "What do you mean, Hermione?" asked Harry.
"What I mean," she explained. "Is that this is my fault too. I...I..."
But she couldn't finish her sentence, for the look of hurt in those emerald green eyes was too much to bear.
At last, Harry turned silently and walked out of the room, the door closing quickly. She heard his footsteps go down the stairs and through the portrait hole, and then they were gone.
