The crystal shattered inches from his head. Wine spilled across the floor and sprayed his white hair with glistening droplets. Like the tears flooding her eyes. He wanted to reach out and brush them away, but there was a fogginess in his head. A misty blanket, making everything seem far away.

"I did everything for you!" Blaise's voice shuddered with emotion, her pale cheeks flushed with a combination of anger and drunkenness, strands of dark hair falling in her eyes. "Everything you wanted, I gave it to you! And this is how you repay me!? Bringing whores into our home, into our bed!" She spat out the words as if trying to purge something unclean.

Draco stared into the fireplace. "You're exaggerating the issue."

At that she laughed, a humorless laugh that ended as abruptly as it began. The harsh sound made him flinch, something he hadn't done when the glass hit the wood paneling beside his head. "Exaggerating....? I'm exaggerating the 'issue'?"

His grey eyes were trained on the fire. Fixed on the shifting flames, but not really seeing them at all. "Yes, you are." Words barely audible. If he expected another outburst, he was disappointed. A cold and drawn-out silence greeted him. It lay between them, thick and tangible as a yawning graveyard.

Her lips moved, but no sound came out. Swallowing, she tried again, "I stood in that doorway and watched. Watched as you came inside her. Listened... as you cried out." She gave that horrible laugh again. "And it's not like she was the first."

A muscle in his jaw twitched and a million different thoughts raced through his mind. Like how he didn't come inside that girl; he had died inside of her. The sound that had tore from his lips wasn't of pleasure... it was pain. Blonde hair didn't look near as good brushing against his pale skin as dark chestnut did. He never kissed that girl. His lips never brushed the nape of her neck or the hollow between her collarbone and throat. The mere thought of her head between his legs didn't make his breath falter. He didn't feverishly whisper her name over and over again against her skin. And she sure as hell didn't fit his body as perfectly as Blaise did.

But he didn't say any of these things. Draco didn't let the words pushing against his tongue, pulling at his lips, escape. He could feel her eyes burning into him, but he wouldn't look away from the fire. The flames feasted on the wooden logs, consuming them carelessly... heedless of the fact that when there's no more wood, the flames would die out, sputtering and coughing.

"Won't you say something?" Her eyes shut and then opened again, pain and desperation etched across her face. "Anything at all?"

Silence.

"In the end, you're just like Lucius," she sneered. His jaw tightened, she knew he couldn't stand being compared to his father. Automatically his eyes went to his arm. Underneath the black material lay the dark mark, tattooed forever into his skin. But that wasn't what bothered her; she had one on her own arm, after all. It was just another piece of the Malfoy inheritance... along with infidelity, it seemed.

"I'm leaving you." Her words tumbled out like heavy bricks. "Goodbye." The instant her fingers touched the door knob, the chains, the fog, the blanket, enveloping him vanished.

"Wait, love-"

But his words died off when he finally met her gaze. Her eyes were blank. All he could see in them was his own reflection.

"I'm sorry, but she's left already."
