- This is the rewritten version of the first chapter. I would have left it in my 4-years-ago state because it's funny seeing the big change in my writing style, but the story is more continuous this way. Happy reading! PP xx
Ginny Weasley could not quite believe it. She was getting married to Harry Potter. The famous, heroic Boy Who Lived. She imagined the anticipating audience in the church room next door and a wave of nerves crept through her. Everyone she knew was there, plenty more she had never met before in her life. All there to witness what would be one of the most memorable days in her life. She looked in the mirror and fiddled absently with her hair, reflecting on her well celebrated decision to agree to Harry's proposal. It had been so perfect. She sighed and reached up to adjust her headband, trying to distract herself from a small niggling feeling of guilt. ---- Harry Potter could not quite believe it. He was getting married to Ginny Weasley. His beautiful, flame-haired childhood sweetheart. The day he dreamed of since he got back together with her following the end of the War. He chatted animatedly about nothing in particular to his best friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, who had dropped by to wish him well. "I honestly can't think of a more convenient brother-in-law!" Ron said cheerfully, clapping Harry on the back so hard it was mildly painful. Quidditch practice for the Chudley Cannons had made him strong. "Yes, congratulations," Hermione quipped, carefully avoiding Harry's eyes. Harry felt puzzled and frankly annoyed at her lack of happiness for him. She had been acting out of character ever since he had told her that he had proposed to Ginny, and that she had agreed. It was any wonder she had turned up at all, as she had made so many excuses not to come. She had only agreed, rather embarrassed, when Ron pointed out how none of her excuses were valid enough to miss the wedding of her childhood friend. Though, Harry reasoned, whatever her problem was it was hers to deal with, not his. So he kept his cheery demeanour and ignored Hermione's forced smile. He had bigger things on his mind at that moment. Namely his marriage. He could already hear the church bells ringing. ---- "It's time!" Ginny squeaked. It was uncharacteristic of her to squeak, as it was very unladylike, her mother had often told her. But today was not a usual day, so it did not call for her usual manner. Her mother came hurrying into the room, her brothers Fred, George and Ron trailing behind. Mrs Weasley threw herself on her daughter and gave her a kiss. "My little baby, oh my darling Ginny! You're getting married! Oh Ginevra!" Her brothers sniggered quietly. Ginny wanted to hex their smug little faces off for ruining the special moment. She had to admit though, as much as she loved her doting mother, she could be a little over the top. "Mum, Mum, I have to go." Her mother released Ginny from her death grip of a hug and nodded, sniffling. Mrs Weasley readjusted her daughter's gown and smiled. The moment for her daughter had come. ---- Harry waited patiently at the altar. Hearing murmurs behind him he turned around, and his breath was taken away. Ginny was walking up the aisle and looked absolutely radiant. She smiled nervously at Harry, who stood there, too stunned for words. He felt he should be used to her beauty, but he had never quite allowed himself to. She was the sweet air he breathed, and he would never take that for granted. He was brought to his senses when the priest came to the altar. Then the ceremony began. In a simple Muggle style, how Harry always wanted it to be. Ginny stood next to Harry, fiddling with her bouquet of roses. It felt odd standing there listening to this old man warble on about life and death and God and love. Something was amiss. She put it down to not being used to Muggle traditions, so she smiled and continued listening. ---- After what seemed like ages of repeating vows and declarations to one another, the big moment to announce them as man and wife had come. Or it would have come, had there not been an interruption to the ceremony. The heavy oak church doors were flung open with an almighty bang, splintering them off their hinges. Ginny took a sharp intake of breath and there was commotion as the audience craned their necks to see the uninvited guest. That uninvited guest was the last person Harry expected to see there. |
