Author's Note:
Truly Madly Deeply is a very special song to me. Although it doesn't reflect the whole story, it shows how Draco feels for Ginny. The fic is for you guys, but the song goes out to my boi, though he'll never see it. Galen, I'll always care about you.

Ginny walked into the empty classroom to retrieve the parchment she left behind and gasped. "Draco?" She barely managed to get the question out. Draco let go of Pansy and whirred around to look at the threshold. His shocked girlfriend's face was drained of all color. As she stood speechless, Draco gave his signature look - the one that showed arrogant indifference. That look had always infuriated Ginny. Her temper brought color back into her cheeks as she started screaming at him.

"I can't believe you! This is the last straw, Draco. You told me there was nothing between you and that...girl." She spit out the last word as if it left a bad taste in her mouth. Draco opened his mouth, but Ginny cut him off. "Shut up, you ungrateful idiot. I gave up so much for you. I lost my family's and my friends' trust. I lost the chance to be Head Girl because of you! And I thought it was all worth it, as long as I had you. You know something? We're over!" She reached under her robes and felt for the pendant. As soon as she had the cold metal in her hand, one strong pull was all it took to relieve her neck of the necklace. She threw it at the still-silent Draco and the dragon pendant with the emerald eye cut Draco's forehead. Drops of blood trickled down Draco's face and Ginny just left him there. Pansy had walked inconspicuously towards the door and had slipped out by this time.

~*~ One Year Later ~*~

Ginny sat up in her bed, unable to sleep. She sighed morosely as she thought of the memory. How much pain she had felt. How uncomfortable the year had been. She wished that she could have spent the year becoming closer to her friends, especially Harry, Hermione, and Ron, who were leaving Hogwarts after this year. But instead she spent her year in her mind, mentally shutting out everyone. What a change it had been from when she was with Draco. When they were together she would always try to group the Gryffindors and the Slytherin, hoping for a decent get-together to Hogsmeade, without any snide remarks or hidden hexes. Now she didn't want to have anything to do with anyone. Though it was carefully masked, Ginny was still hurting from Draco's betrayal and wished she could have let him explain. He tried a couple of times, but his pride didn't let him go any further after Ginny's tenacity to avoid him.

It's going to be one year tomorrow that we broke up, she thought. It's funny how it just comes to be, even though I haven't been counting days. She sighed once more. I miss him. She admitted to herself. I miss his sweetness. I miss the fact that he could make anything seem fun. He's more of an optimist than most people think. She laid back down as her mind drifted to other thoughts as she started to get drowsy and fell asleep.

The next morning Ginny woke up to the sunshine in her face and sighed. Another day.... She walked into the Great Hall and plopped down on a bench across from Ron and next to Hermione.

"Good morning Ginny," Hermione said gently. Though she didn't understand why Ginny fell for Draco, Hermione understood Ginny's heartache and tried to be supportive and tactful.

"Hey Gin," Ron and Harry greeted Ginny laconically before digging into their breakfast.

"Hi." Ginny smiled weakly and looked down at her food. She didn't have much of an appetite that day. Not that she's had much of an appetite for the past year. After staring at her plate for a full minute, Hermione noticed.

"Hey, are you going to eat anything?" Ginny saw the worry creeping onto the brown-haired girl's face and let out a small fake laugh.

"It'd be a good idea, wouldn't it?" She picked up her fork and pushed around her food. But she didn't feel like eating. Hermione saw this and was about to comment on it, but the sound of flapping wings echoed through the large room. The owl post had arrived. Ginny was glad for the distraction. It gave her time to sit unnoticed by everyone. But oddly enough, it was not to be this time. A tan-and-white feathered owl was hovering above her head. After it settled, she relieved the parchment of the bird's leg and the owl flew away. Who'd send me a letter? She thought. I'm not in trouble, nothing special is going on, it's not time for Mom's monthly letter. Hm.... She began to read it.

Dearest Ginny,

There was a girl with curls of red

Who captured a young man's heart.

Until a misunderstanding came up

That had to split them apart.

"Hey, Ginny, who sent you the letter?" her nosy brother asked.

She barely heard the question as she thought about the rhyme. Ginny was surprised at the abrupt ending. She had an idea of who sent her the letter with its green ink and impeccable penmanship. But before she could think anymore about the subject a brown owl appeared with another parchment. She took it and cautiously opened it, not sure if she wanted to read more.

So long since they had each other

In an affectionate embrace

If only the explanation showed

Could the pain be erased.

Ginny was now very confused. Can this be what she thinks it is? Just then, a speckled owl camee. By then everyone was watching Ginny and the numerous owls.

What you see, my friend,

Is not always what is.

The tear-drying of a classmate

Had turned into a kiss.

After every verse another owl arrives to deliver the rest of the message.

Of course there was fault

On both sides of the road

But hopefully they can forgive and forget

To let the grief get old

Two owls come to Ginny this time, one carrying a rose, the other another letter.

I'm asking for another chance

I've become a new man

With this rose I give to you

I hope you understand

A snowy white owl flew regally to Ginny, and she felt that this was the last parchment. In a way, she was disappointed.

Let us be close again

And never let us end...

(look up)

Ginny looked up. Draco was standing next to her in his best robes, holding a velvet green box.

"Let's be together for all time. I'm asking you to be mine." Draco finished his poem and went down on one knee. The whole room gasped. "Virginia Weasley, I'm sorry for everything that's happened. I wish I can erase all the pain you've experienced in the past year. I wish I could erase all the pain I've had. But I can't. But I can make sure nothing will hurt you ever again. This year has been the worst without you. I need you to be by my side. Can we start again?" He opened the box and the silver dragon pendant shone.

"Oh, Draco...." She hugged him, taking in his scent again, while everyone cheered. Though many didn't like the idea of the two getting back together again they melted when they saw the happiness radiating from the couple. When Ginny and Draco pulled apart she stared at his face, relearning all of his features. His silver eyes which change with his mood, his pale blonde hair that always hung at a certain angle that drove her crazy. Ginny brushed back a little wisp of hair and saw the scar she had caused a year ago. She kissed it and then went to his lips, running her hands through that hair while Draco held onto her tight. The crowd turned away and let the two have their moment.

When they finished, Draco grinned at Ginny and said, "Well, is that a yes?"

She hit him lightly on the arm. "What do you think?" She laughed. And they kissed once more as the breakfasters left the room for classes.

~*~*~*~*~

I'll be your dream

I'll be your wish, I'll be your fantasy

I'll be your hope, I'll be your love

Be everything that you need

I'll love you more with every breath

Truly, madly, deeply do

I will be strong, I will be faithful

'Cause I'm counting on

A new beginning

A reason for living

A deeper meaning

I want to stand with you on a mountain

I want to bathe with you in the sea

I want to lay like this forever

Until the sky falls down on me

And when the stars are shining

Brightly in the velvet sky

I'll make a wish send it to heaven

Then make you want to cry

The tears of joy for all the

Pleasure in the certainty

That we're surrounded by the

Comfort and protection of

The highest powers

In lonely hours

The tears devour you

I want to stand with you on a mountain

I want to bathe with you in the sea

I want to lay like this forever

Until the sky falls down on me

Oh can you see it baby?

Don't have to close your eyes

'Cause it's standing right here before you

All that you need will surely come

I'll be your dream

I'll be your wish, I'll be your fantasy

I'll be your hope, I'll be your love

Be everything that you need

I'll love you more with every breath

Truly, madly, deeply do

I want to stand with you on a mountain

I want to bathe with you in the sea

I want to lay like this forever

Until the sky falls down on me
