Draco woke up drowsily. His eyelids were too heavy to push open so he lay there, listening to the faraway voices.

"Any change?" he heard a soft voice ask.

"None. It isn't looking good, Albus," a female voice answered back. Dumbledore was there? Where was he? He shifted, feeling soft fabric under him. A bed? He listened further.

"Poppy, will she make it?" The voice of Dumbledore spoke. Draco couldn't see anything but he could make out grimness in the Headmaster's voice. So Madame Pomfrey was there?

"Only time will tell, Albus," she spoke sadly. "Ms. Granger will have to fight to get out of this one, Headmaster."

Suddenly, Draco's eyes shot open. Hermione? What were they talking about? He looked around him. Over the course of the last month, this place had become very familiar to him, the hospital wing. He tried to sit up, but immediately fell back down, fighting the urge to cry out in pain. Instead he let out a small groan, but almost immediately, Madame Pomfrey was at his side.

"Mr. Malfoy, nice to see you awake. Again. The third time this month," she said, busily summoning a handful of potions. "No doubt you are in pain?"

Draco simply nodded, but immediately tried to ask Madame Pomfrey about Hermione. "What..."

"Be patient Mr. Malfoy," she said interrupting him. Madame Pomfrey looked at him, shaking her head. She lifted up a goblet and filled it with an assortment of vile-looking potions. "Here, take these."

Draco hesitantly accepted the goblet, taking a small sniff of the contents. It honestly smelled like something had crawled in there and died. Pinching his nose, he downed the drink, narrowing his eyes in disgust as the taste. But immediately, a warm feeling spread throughout his body and all of his pain was gone. The only thing he had left was an ache in his chest. As if reading his thoughts, Madame Pomfrey then told him, "Broken ribs. I healed them but they will be a little sore for a while. And you might have a bit of a hard time walking long distances because you have really weak lungs. Otherwise, I need you here to rest for a couple of days and then you can go."

Draco nodded and immediately asked the question he had wanted to ask since he woke up. "Where's Hermione?"

Madame Pomfrey stopped in her tracks, slowly turning around. "Ms. Granger is right beside you. Unfortunately, she is only there in body. She is in a coma, Mr. Malfoy."

Draco sat back, shocked at the news. Hermione is in a coma? How could she be? Immediately, he got up from his bed, walked over to the curtains, and pulled them back hastily. There lying on the bed, was Hermione. She looked simply like she was sleeping with the exception of being pale and cold. Draco kneeled beside her, taking her lifeless hand in his. Draco jumped as he heard a voice from behind him.

"Mr. .Malfoy, good to see you awake," Dumbledore said softly. Draco spun around to meet the gaze of his headmaster. He had completely forgotten he was in the room. "Madame Pomfrey, may I please have a moment with Mr. Malfoy?"

Scowling, Madame Pomfrey left the main infirmary and went into her office. Dumbledore looked over at Draco, the usual sparkle in his eyes dimmer. "Mr. Malfoy. Do you remember what happened?"

Draco nodded, still numb from surprise. Dumbledore observed him, nodding his head as well. "Please tell me what you remember as detailed as you can."

"Hermione and I were walking around the lake when we stopped to talk," Draco started, uncomfortable thinking about Hermione. "Then, my father showed up and he told me he would kill me. I told Hermione to go but he kept her there. Then, he performed the Cruticus on me and I blacked out. When I woke up, I don't know how much later, I saw Hermione being shot backwards by a spell. She landed in the lake and I tried to get her. My father stopped me and was about to use Avada Kedarva but Harry showed up and stunned him. I dived in to save her and brought her back up. Harry took her but I didn't see anymore because I passed out."

Dumbledore nodded. "That was the general idea of what I thought happened. I think that will be enough to charge your father with two attempted murders and lifetime sentence in Azkaban. I will further press issues with your father. Let us hope Ms. Granger will pull through."

Draco did nothing, just grasped Hermione's hand tighter. Dumbledore left the hospital wing but in walked the two least favorite people he could want to see. Harry and Ron ran in, and then stopped seeing Hermione on the bed. Draco looked at them, seeing their expressions similar to his when he saw her. Harry and Ron walked over, Ron's mouth hanging open.

"What happened?" Harry asked, looking at Hermione sadly.

"She's in a coma," Draco said quietly. He noticed Ron hadn't said a word. He simply looked at Draco holding Hermione's hand. Draco looked at Harry.

"I told him about everything that's been going on between you and Hermione," Harry said simply.

"Oh," Draco said, looking back at Ron. He continued to stare at Draco, mouth gaping. After about a minute of this, Draco spoke up. "Yes, its amazing Weasley, but be so kind to shut your mouth and occupy yourself with something else."

Ron's cheeks pinkened slightly but he recovered and stepped away from Draco. He went over by Harry at Hermione's side. Ron picked up Hermione's hand and gave it a squeeze. "Hold on there, Hermione."

He looked at her for a moment and then at Harry. "I have to go meet Ginny. She's really upset about this too. I'll see you later Harry." Ron said, giving Draco an evil look before departing. Harry looked over at Draco.

"Tell me everything," Harry said, looking up at him. "Everything that's been happening between you both."

Draco looked at Harry. He knew that Harry deserved the truth about them. About everything. So he told him everything. Everything from what happened in the forest to the lake. By the end, Harry had heard everything. His face was expressionless. After what seemed like eternity, he spoke.

"Do you love her?"

"Yes, I do," Draco said, looking Harry straight in the eye, then leaning back down to look at Hermione. "But why would she lie to you about me? God knows you would have loved to have an opportunity to threaten me."

"Mal-Draco, I know why she lied to me about you," Harry said, stopping himself from calling him by his spiteful last name. He took a deep breath and forced out the last of his words. "She loves you too. I see it in her everytime she talks about you or sees you."

Draco snapped his head back up, looking at Harry in surprise. Hermione loved him? Harry continued though. "Draco, you're the only one who can pull her out of this. Her fate is in your hands now."

And then without effort he added, "I trust you with her."
