I'm Sorry That I Made You Cry

Ron sat on an old log swing in an open court of the Gryffindor Tower. He stared mindlessly into the night sky. The stars were out and as always they began to capture his attention. Many times he would come out at night and just take it all in. He was always amazed at the beauty of a star filled night. He then looked at the moon, ah he thought, the moon, little brother to the sun. He would often open his mind and allow random thoughts to pass on by; sometimes stopping them to give reflection and sometimes just letting them go. Tonight was different. His heart was heavy. He had brought paper and quill to try and write out his thoughts, to give some kind of effort in sorting them out.

It was after the Yule Ball. He and Hermione had a horrible argument. When she was done yelling at him she began to cry and then ran off. He wanted to grab her and just hold her, but he knew that that might not be the right moment to do so. At first he accused her of fraternizing with the enemy, Viktor Krum. He knew in his heart that that was not the real reason why he was angry, and what is more he knew that Hermione knew that too.

He sat back in the swing and allowed the memories of the ball come back to him. When he looked up and saw Hermione with Viktor Krum, different emotions flooded his heart. The waves of disbelief, pain, hurt, jealousy, and anger came pouring in. These emotions numbed his senses like an anesthetic. Slowly the numbness wore off and anger came to the forefront. It moved back and forth bathing his heart until the anger became rage. How could she do this to him? Didn't she know how he felt about her?

His eyes glared at her. He was trying to catch hers, but she was only looking at Krum. She was in her own little globe, smiling, laughing, non-caring about the pain she was causing him. Then he watched in horror as Krum raised his hand to brush her hair away from her cheek. He watched her reaction to Krum's touch and it looked like she enjoyed it. This was like a dagger into his heart. How could she do this to me?

When the music ended they applauded. They then turned around. She was holding Krum's hand. It was then that she saw Ron's piercing gaze. At first she smiled at him, but quickly realized he wasn't smiling back. His eyes penetrated her very soul. It frightened her. The band began another tune and she and Krum decided to dance again. As they were dancing she would periodically look over at Ron who was now seething.

When the dance number was over, she asked Viktor Krum to get them some refreshments. He lifted her hand to his lips and gently kissed it. He then bowed and left. She slowly turned toward Ron and started a nervous walk to him. She was trembling inside. She had never seen such anger in his eyes before. When she was near enough she said hi to him and asked him if he was enjoying the dance. After this his thoughts began to merge and then all was a blur.

A cool breeze brought him back to where he was, sitting on a swing trying to figure out how he really felt about her. He knew he liked her, but up to this point he didn't realize that like had turned into love. When the ball was announced one of his first thoughts was poor Hermione, no one will ask her. He thought she would either go to the library or just go to bed. He thought that maybe he should ask her just so she had someone to go with her. He also tried to think of other girls to ask, but his thoughts always came back to her. When she announced that someone had indeed asked her, he thought she was just trying to cover up the fact that no one really did ask her. When he saw her with Krum he knew then that she was telling the truth.

As he begun to swing his thoughts drifted back to the time when he first met her. He and Harry were in a compartment together on the Hogwarts Express talking, when all of a sudden this bushy haired girl entered their compartment asking about a lost toad. After that chapter in their lives and those that followed he began to think of her as sort of mental and incredibly bossy. However, as time moved on, locked in a chamber deep in his heart another feeling had been planted and it began to bloom. He knew something was happening inside him when he often came to her rescue from Malfoy. Their friendship grew and he, Hermione, and Harry became tight. He realized now that Krum had broken into their closeness and he hated him for it.

He knew he had to put his thoughts into words that would tell her how he felt about her. He thought of several songs and ditties, but nothing would do. He would like to ask Hermione what he should write, but that would be totally thick and stupid. He thought, Hermione would you help me put into words how I feel about you? Bloody brilliant. Then it came to him like a flash from his wand. He would just simply write down what he thought about her and their row about Krum. No matter what it sounded like, it would be from his heart. The words flowed from his heart through his quill and on to the paper. When he was done he folded the paper and went inside the common room. All was quiet so he went to bed.

The next morning he awoke. He went down into the common room, but he didn't see Hermione. He decided to go to breakfast. He didn't see her there either. After a quick nibble he went to the library. There she was with her nose in a book. He was happy to note that the fat headed Krum was nowhere to be seen. He decided to put the paper in her school bag when she wasn't looking. He was just too afraid to hand it to her.

He waited and waited until finally she stood up. Luck was with him. She went to put the book back that she was reading. He quickly placed the paper in her bag where he figured she would see it. He then left. He wasn't sure what her reaction would be. When Hermione returned she gave a quick look over her area to make sure all was in order. As she grabbed her bag she noticed a piece of paper sticking out of it. She took it and began to read the words written on it.

I was dreaming of the past and my heart was beating fast.

I began to lose control; I began to lose control.

I didn't mean to hurt you, I'm sorry that I made you cry, I didn't want to hurt you,

I'm just a jealous guy.

I was feeling insecure, you might not love me anymore, I was shivering inside, I was shivering inside.

I didn't mean to hurt you, I'm sorry that I made you cry, I didn't want to hurt you,

I'm just a jealous guy.

I didn't mean to hurt you, I'm sorry that I made you cry, I didn't want to hurt you,

I'm just a jealous guy.

I was trying to catch your eye, thought that you were trying to hide,

I was swallowing my pain; I was swallowing my pain.

I didn't mean to hurt you, I'm sorry that I made you cry, I didn't want to hurt you,

I'm just a jealous guy.

Please forgive me.

I love you Hermione Granger.

Ron.

Her eyes became windows allowing each word to come in and become a part of her. Each word made her legs weaker and weaker until she reached down with her hand and pulled out the chair so she could sit down. Tears filled her eyes as she read over and over each word. A menagerie of emotions entered her very being. She was uncertain about how she felt about many of them, but she was very certain about one. She totally loved the red headed wizard who wrote this to her.

She decided she needed to find him. She knew the paper was not in her bag when she first sat down, so he must have slipped it in when she was up and about. She scanned the library thinking he might be still in the area. To her disappointment she could not find him. She got up to leave. All of a sudden Viktor Krum came into view. She was so focused on her thoughts about Ron that she just passed him, smiled, said hi, and kept going. Krum stopped. He then just stood in the library with a dumb look on his face.

She walked through Hogwarts looking for Ron. She asked several people, including Harry and Ginny if they had seen him. None had. Then she thought about the courtyard on the Gryffindor tower. The place with the old log swing. She knew Ron love to go there just to get away from it all. She picked up her pace and made her way there.

She gave the fat lady in the portrait the password and went through the common room. She went to the door, opened it and stood at the entrance of the courtyard. She stopped. She looked. There he was, his back to her, looking over the wall. Ron was staring at the view before him wondering if he had made the right move by leaving a note that maybe should have said more, or maybe he thought, he shouldn't have written at all.

It was then he felt a presence. He slowly turned about and there she was looking at him. To his relief there was no anger in her eyes. To his delight there was a slight smile on her face. She dropped her bag on the floor and began to walk toward him. He started toward her. When they met they gazed into each other's eyes. They nervously brought their arms up and then embraced each other. He held her tight; he didn't want to let go of her. She felt the same about him. She moved her head back to look at him. With his hand he slowly brushed her hair away from her cheek. She loved his touch.

"I love you Hermione Granger, always have."

"I love you too, Ronald Weasley," as she sniffled. They again held each other tight.

After thought.

Viktor Krum stood still in the library. The librarian kept watching him and then decided to take action. She walked over to Viktor Krum, tweaked his ear and told him to either sit down and read something or get out. Since he didn't know how read very well, he just walked out.

After, after thought.

The song "Jealous Guy" was sung by John Lennon.
