QUEEN OF SLYTHERIN

It was career day at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and all the students had been asked to attend a meeting with their head of house throughout the day to discuss what they wanted to do with their lives after leaving the school. The whole student body had been chatting excitedly all day about their future jobs or where else they might go to study.

Sitting in Potions next to Millicent Bullstrode, Pansy Parkinson was troubled. She knew exactly what she was going to be after Hogwarts. After all she was the only child of Matilda and Marcus Parkinson who had been well known Voldemort sympathisers (and probably still were) and very close friends to the very wealthy Malfoy family. She had grown up with their only son, Draco, and it had always been said that they would one day get married. She had presumed that all this talk had just been something their parents would joke about and possibly deep down wish for. However, she had found out a couple of months ago that they had in fact been betrothed on the day of her birth. Pansy knew her role and as soon as she left the school in just over year she would become Mrs Pansy Malfoy. This realization hit her hard when surrounded by friends and other students talking about their future careers and the exciting uncertainty that lay before them all, except her.

Draco hadn't seemed in the least bit bothered by this information. However, he was male and perhaps felt that there was not as much pressure on him as there was on Pansy. He still played around with other girls at school, but heaven forbid anyone to even try to approach Pansy. He was very protective of his Slytherin Queen and had sent out open threats to make sure no other male so much as looked at her. She knew that this was so he wouldn't be made a fool of and not because he cared for her. She didn't really mind whether he cared for her or not as she hadn't really felt that way about him since the end of their forth year when his selfishness and arrogance seemed to finally hit her. She couldn't let anyone know how she felt though and had to maintain her reputation as the Queen of Slytherin. She had earned the title due to her connection to Draco, who fancied himself as the King of Slytherin and also because the rest of the house seemed willing to do whatever Draco said. Even the other houses called her the Queen of Slytherin but only because they all thought she loved herself and was just a simpering idiot who followed Draco around. Pansy knew that the rest of the school despised her, but who could blame them really?

The end of Potions arrived and Pansy hadn't been listening to anything. However, Snape never seemed to test his own house as he preferred to torture the Gryffindors who took the lesson with them. Pansy often wondered why the Slytherins and Gryffindors were put together for so many lessons seeing as they hated each other so much. Come to think of it though, she didn't really hate them, she just had to act like she did. No-one had ever really asked for her opinion and had always been expected to think as Draco did and for the first four years of school this suited her, but now she found herself sighing and rolling her eyes whenever Draco stopped to insult Harry Potter and his friends. She honestly couldn't see the point in it.

It was nearly time for Pansy's interview with Professor Snape with regards to her future, although she really didn't see the point, and besides, Snape probably already knew what was to become of her. Suddenly she felt as if she couldn't breathe and she just knew that she couldn't face her future with Draco. She didn't know what to do or how to get out of it. Killing herself seemed so easy, so maybe that was the answer. As the potions class filed out of the dungeon she knew she had to get to the girls toilets as fast as possible or she may very well be sick right there and then.

Later, she was walking down the corridor towards Professor Snape and her extremely pointless interview when it happened. She turned a corner and saw Draco ahead of her talking to a boy with rather bright red hair and a girl who was standing next to him. She instantly knew it was Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger from Gryffindor and could tell exactly what Draco was probably saying to them. As she approached, she heard Draco saying something about Hermione being a mudblood and Ron appeared to be getting worked up. She walked up to Draco's side which caused him to turn and look at her. He did not greet her, instead he just put his arm around her shoulders whilst making some remark to Ron about being able to keep his woman in order. That was it. That was the spark Pansy needed. Before she knew what she was doing she turned on Draco and slapped him hard around the face. The look of shock and fear that crossed his face and the raucous laughter coming from Ron and Hermione proved that this unexpected action of hers had been completely worth it. Spinning on her heel, Pansy headed off towards her interview with a fresh new perspective. She held her head up high as her long dark hair swung behind her and a massive smile grew across her face. After all, she was the Queen of Slytherin so who needed a King?
