I Hate You

By: Lilie Blaze

"I hate you...I hate what you´ve become...I hate what you´ve forced me to become...I hate you for your words. I hate you for your thoughts. I hate your soft platinum hair that falls ever so nicely around your slate-colored eyes...I hate those too. I hate your strong arms...I hate them for the warm hugs they give. I hate your lips for the sweet and passionate kisses they create. I hate your smile for the warm feeling it spreads through my body." She whispered to no one in particular, as she sat by one of the windows of the Astronomy Tower, "Our window, I hate it as well." Silent tears slid down her creamy cheeks.

"I hate it when you say `I love you´...because I know you don´t and it makes me hate you more than I already do. I hate you Draco; I hate you for doing this to me." She said, finally allowing her emotions to take her over as she began to sob, "I hate you."

"Do you really?" he asked, placing his arms around her small waist and pulling her into a warm embrace. "Do you truly hate me?" he asked again, looking deep into her honey-colored eyes.

"No," she whispered, the tears still falling freely. "I love you so much it hurts. Yet I hate feeling so weak, I hate the way you always have all of the power. You always know what to say and how to say it. You´re always so in control. You hide your feelings and I hate it!" she cried, "I hate it because you can look at me and know exactly what I´m thinking or what I´m feeling, and yet I cannot do the same because you mask it all so well!"

As he held her close to his body, her sobs subsided and the silence surrounded them like a thick cloud of smoke. Looking down at the small body in his arms, he couldn´t help but notice how beautiful she was.

Her dark brown hair fell in perfect curls down her back, reaching her waist, and harmonized perfectly with her dark eyes and tanned complexion. She was about a head shorter than he and had the perfect hourglass figure he loved. But there was more to her than her exterior.

What had caught his attention about her first, was her intelligence and self-confidence. She wasn´t arrogant; actually, far from it, but there was an air about her that let others know that they could not push her around. She was incredibly smart, smarter than him actually, and had a quick tongue that had put him in his place many times. He loved that she wasn´t just a stupid pushover who threw herself at him.

She was different. She forced him to chase after her. At first, she wasn´t much more than a conquest, a mission. She was the only one that didn´t give him the attention he thought he deserved, and that made it all the more challenging. The problem was that once he accomplished his mission, he found himself "head-over-heels" in love.

Feeling his strong arms around her, she felt safe. The again, she always felt safe when he was around. She loved him and therefore trusted him with her life.

To her, he was perfect. Of course, she wouldn´t have been caught dead saying that when they´d first met In fact she would have most likely been wishing him dead back then, but things change. Luckily, people change as well.

He´d grown up quite a lot over the years. Now he stood at about 6 feet with a lean frame thanks to Quidditch. His silver blond hair was a bit longer now and fell in wisps around his eyes and cheekbones. His slate eyes were no longer cold and hard but warm and full of emotions.

Unfortunately, he hadn´t yet learned to express those emotions. No matter how much she tried, she couldn´t break the wall he´d built around himself. She knew he cared about her, but he´d never told her so. In the two years they´d spent together, he was still unable to communicate that with her.

That was mainly why he´d found her crying in the Astronomy Tower that night. She didn´t know if she could take it any longer. As much as she loved him, she wasn´t sure how long she would be able to put up with this. She knew she loved him, but she hated the mask he wore to cover him emotions. That mask was what stopped them from being happy.... stopped him from loving her as she loved him.

~*~*~*~

Love, the word itself scared him to death. Loving someone more than himself and spending the rest of his life with that person was unimaginable.... until he met her.

Looking at her now, he knew that he couldn´t imagine life without her. She was what kept him sane. She kept him going. She encouraged him and made him a better person. Without her, his life wasn´t worth living. He knew that now....but was it too late? Seeing the moonlight play softly on her features, he knew he had to try and preserve the love they once had. He cupped her face in his hands as their eyes met.

"I love you, Hermione Granger," he said, using those words for the first time in his life, and meaning them completely, "I love you more than life itself."

THE END
