Author's Note:
This chapter contains IMPLIED male/male sex at the end. There is nothing terribly graphic, but I have not provided translations for the Japanese spoken during the closet scene; I DON'T consider them NC-17 material, but some really prudent people might, so I've left them out!

Harry Potter and the Lance of Longinus

Chapter 6

Hermione hadn't been petrified as she was three years earlier, Madame Pomfrey said she was more in a state of shock, shock so great it had led to a psychiatric coma. Harry sat in his room for hours thinking about what kind of shock could have put Hermione in such a condition. Could it possibly be that someone she trusted - perhaps a boy she liked - had turned on her?

Kaworu did not show up to dinner in the Great Hall and it was well after dark before he returned to the room. Harry stood, crossing his arms. "Talk."

"What about?" Kaworu asked.

"What did you do to Hermione?"

"Nothing. I didn't realize she liked me like that and I have..."

Harry glared at him. "That's not what I meant! Did you hurt her today?!"

"Of course not! Hermione's my friend!" Kaworu exclaimed.

"Then what happened?!"

"She was attacked by evil forces, probably someone working for You-Know-Who."

"Voldemort?"

Kaworu shuddered. "Yes. But it's not me, I swear."

"Where is the lance? And who is Tabris? I know you know."

"I am Tabris...and I cannot reveal the location of the lance to anyone...even you."

"You are...is that your middle name?"

"My angel name," Kaworu explained. "I am half...so I was given a human name and my mother gave me the name Tabris."

"So then you don't want the lance..."

"I have the lance."

"Then who wants it?" Harry asked.

"Vol...You-Know-Who."

"Who's working for him? Who's the one leaving the messages? Who hurt Hermione?!"

"I don't know...I've been trying to figure it out. I've suspected Malfoy."

Harry nodded. "That's possible...but this letter I got said the evil would come from the East. What about Asuka?"

"She's not a nice person, but not evil. It's not Shinji, me or Rei...so the person must be from Hogwarts."

"What about Professor Ikari?"

"That is a possibility...I didn't think of that," Kaworu said.

"Will Hermione be okay?"

"I wish I knew."

* * *

Harry waited almost two months for Hermione to come out of the psychiatric coma, but she didn't. She lay in bed, staring at the ceiling, her pupils expanding and contracting as though she were watching something, sometimes her lips moved but no sound came out. Madame Pomfrey had done a wonderful job with the cuts and no scars remained, but there was little she could do to mend the inner wounds.

Kaworu, Harry and Ron kept a close watch on Professor Ikari, but despite handing out bad grades, deducting points for minor offenses and signing too much homework, he didn't appear very evil. They had decided to leave Shinji out of this, even though he didn't like his father, they all decided it would be better not to tell Shinji they suspected him of working for Voldemort.

"You haven't seen anything further?" Harry asked Kaworu when they visited Hermione one day.

"No, and no new clues. But I don't think they've given up," Kaworu told him. "They're just waiting. Waiting for the right time."

"So..." Harry looked at Hermione. "You don't like her."

"I like her...she's a good friend...but not in a romantic way."

"Then who are you with?"

Kaworu cleared his throat. "Uh...well, I'm..."

"Red," Hermione whispered.

Both boys looked at her. "What did you say?" Harry asked.

"Red eyes..." she said softly and the sentence trailed off as her lips moved without sound.

"Do you suppose it means anything?"

Kaworu shook his head. "I think she just saw me is all."

Harry nodded in agreement.

* * *

"I'm very displeased with all of you..." Professor Ikari said, passing out the latest exams. "I don't know how such morons like yourself could ever hope to succeed in the real world."

"Are all Japanese teachers like him?" Ron whispered.

"Some nicer some worse, school is different in Japan, there's lots of competition to get into top high schools and colleges. You have to get good grades," Kaworu answered.

"I am, however, content with the results of one student in this class, I believe he has shown remarkable progress." The professor slid a paper in front of his son. "Good work, Shinji."

Shinji smiled, almost a grin really and looked at Kaworu. The albino boy smiled back at him.

"I finally did it," Shinji said as they walked out of class. "I was praised by my father." The test paper made a soft rustling sound as his hands shook with excitement. He turned to Kaworu. "And I owe it all to you."

Kaworu shook his head. "No, I only helped, you learned the material and took the test yourself."

"Still, thank you, thank you so much!" Shinji seemed ready to cry with happiness.

"We have Herbology next," Harry reminded Kaworu.

"I have Potions," Shinji told them.

Ron hummed a death march and they all laughed. The three Gryffindor boys waved goodbye to Shinji and headed to their class.

* * *

"It's good to get out of Herbology with no homework," Ron remarked.

"Finals are coming up, usually in Japan, we'd be up to our ears in homework, Kaworu told them.

They went outside. The May weather was wonderful, a warm sunshine the touched the earth making flowers bloom and the grass seemed greener than ever.

The boys walked through the courtyard and saw a figure lying in the flowers next to a wall, getting closer they recognized Shinji, his eyes were closed and he was lying perfectly still, legs straight, hands resting lightly on his chest, which moved up and down slowly with every breath.

Kaworu knelt down, shaking him. "Shinji class is over."

The other boy didn't respond.

"Did he fall?" Ron asked.

"I don't think so," Harry said. "If he had he wouldn't be lying perfectly like that."

Kaworu shook Shinji a bit more. "Come on, get up." He noticed blood dripping down the wall and looked up, reading the message.

Tabris - I want the Lance - NOW!!

"Someone's certainly getting demanding," Ron commented.

Kaworu picked up Shinji and Ron and Harry followed him to Madame Pomfrey's. They waited outside the nurse's office until Professor Dumbledore and Professor McGonagall came by.

"We'll tell you what's going on when we know," Professor McGonagall told them. "You'd better get to your classes."

The three Gryffindors went to their classes, returning after the final bell to Madame Pomfrey's to visit Shinji and Hermione.

"What's wrong with Shinji?" Kaworu asked Professor Dumbledore.

The old wizard turned to him. "A powerful sleeping spell. No one here can undo it."

Harry raised an eyebrow. "Like Sleeping Beauty?"

"I'm not kissing him!" Ron exclaimed.

"A kiss won't break this spell," Professor Dumbledore explained. "You must destroy the source of the curse. To save both Shinji and Hermione."

Harry shook his head. "We don't know who it is."

Kaworu stood and spoke with determination. "Then we'll find who it is!"

"It must happen soon," The wise professor said. "If you don't, the spells will become permanent."

* * *

Harry spied the snitch and chased after it. Looking back he saw Draco following closely behind on his broomstick. His broom lurched forward and then swung from side to side. He held on tightly glaring at Draco who was staring at him. "Stop it!"

Draco blinked. "I'm not doing anything, Potter!"

Harry looked around, his broom jetting out from under him. He caught the handle and looked up to see a pair of blood red eyes accompanied by a wide smile. His breath almost caught in his throat. His fingers were losing their grip; he struggled to hang on tightly and then one hand slipped. The broom moved wildly. He held on for dear life, looking at the ground at least a hundred feet below. He looked back up into those cold eyes, fearing for his life. His other hand slipped from the broomstick and he screamed the name of the owner of those eyes. "REI!!!"

He expected to hit the ground, expected his life to end at that moment, but the impact never came. Instead, he felt a warm hand grab his wrist, and the gentle waft of a breeze. Opening his eyes he saw another pair of red eyes staring back at him - kind and good. A gentle smile and large, beautiful wings. Kaworu had saved him. His wings flapped awkwardly, being used for the first time, but they held both his and Harry's weight.

"You're flying!" Harry exclaimed.

"I can't let her kill you." Kaworu decreased the flapping of his wings gently setting Harry on the ground and landing himself.

Rei flew closer on her broomstick. "In the name of my master, Voldemort, I demand you surrender the Lance of Longinus to me!"

Kaworu's eyes narrowed. "Never!"

Rei extended her hand making a long red spear with two points appear in it out of thin air. "You produce the lance, or I kill your friends one by one!" She drew the spear back and thrust it forward.

The red object streaked through the air. A scream pierced the stadium and everyone looked back to see Asuka with both points having gone straight through her head, piercing her to the ground.

Harry stared in horror at Asuka's blood saturating the ground, her body lying still.

Rei smiled wider. "The Lance, Tabris."

Kaworu glared at her, extending his hand into the air. "Lanca Longinus accio!"

Something long and brown shot from Gryffindor tower over to Kaworu. He caught it by the handle. Harry recognized it as the box Kaworu had hidden under his bed at the beginning of the year. "You hid it under your bed?"

"Protected by a spell. Where else was I to put it?"

Ron had appeared from his place in the crowd. "Well, let's see it."

Kaworu opened the case and extracted the Lance. It was an old spear on a long wooden stick that had been repaired many times with strings of leather wrapped around it. The tip was still sharp but the metal looked dull and was covered in a rusty sort of matter that had dried on. It was weathered and worn, not the kind of treasure you'd expect someone to want.

"That is the Lance of Longinus?" Ron asked unbelievably. "It's not very impressive."

"It's over two thousand years old," Kaworu pointed out.

"Enough already! Hand it over!" Rei demanded.

Kaworu shook his head. "You said I had to produce it...you didn't say anything about handing it over."

Rei scowled and the red spear pulled out of Asuka's body returning to her. "Give it to me!!"

"Why don't you come and take it then?" Ron challenged.

"She can't, the only way she can get the spear is if I willingly give it to her...or if she kills me," Kaworu explained.

"That's a good idea!" Rei shouted and hurled the copy lance at Kaworu.

The lance hit a kind of orange force field around Kaworu's body. "You forget that unlike the lilum...I am protected by an AT field!"

But the red spear began breaking through the field. Kaworu fell to the ground but not before the long copy ripped through his wings. He screamed in anguish as a spray of blood and feathers littered the ground. The Lance lay unguarded on the ground.

Rei swooped down on her broom to get it but Harry picked it up at the last second and pushed it up in the air and into Rei's chest. She let out an ear piercing howl as a black shadow emerged from her body floating up in the air before the body burst in a shower of yellow-orange liquid.

The shadow of Voldemort looked back at them before disappearing. Harry knew it was not over...he knew they would battle again.

Kaworu's shoulders shook as he pushed himself up from the ground, getting up. His wings hung limply from his back.

"Will you ever be able to fly again?" Harry asked.

Kaworu looked behind him at the bloody, broken appendages. "I don't know."

Ron looked over to his side. "Wh-what about Asuka?"

Kaworu picked up the spear walking over to the body. The Lance had none of Rei's blood on it, it looked just as it had when it was first taken from the box. Kaworu used his fingernail to scrape a flake of the rusty material off of the head of the Lance. It turned into a drop of blood on the way down into Asuka's open mouth.

Asuka took a breath, her wounds healed and her eyes opened. "Anata wa nani o mitsumimasu ka?"

"Daijoubu desu ka?" Kaworu asked, helping her up.

Asuka nodded. "Daijoubu."

* * *

"The last thing I remember was seeing Rei and then a flash...I can't remember anything after that except waking up in here," Hermione told them.

Shinji sat up in bed looking their direction. "Me either...Rei just came up to me and said 'sleep' and waved her wand. Then I fell asleep."

Kaworu yelped from behind a screen.

"Don't move around," Madame Pomfrey instructed. "I've never bandaged wings before...but I think you'll be able to use them again."

Kaworu came out from the screen moments later, his chest and back wrapped in bandages holding his wings to his body. He walked over to Shinji, sitting on the edge of the bed. "E genki desu ka?"

"Genki desu." Shinji smiled.

Kaworu smiled back at him. "Yokatta."

* * *

"Harry, you were wonderful!" Hermione exclaimed as he walked off the quidditch field.

Harry beamed. It was the final game - Gryffindor against Hufflepuff. "Well, they had to change the seeker, and the replacement wasn't as good as Shinji."

"Where is Shinji?" Ron asked.

Hermione thought for a moment. "I don't know...Kaworu wasn't there either."

They walked inside towards the boys' locker room. Hermione was going to wait outside for Harry. Passing the quidditch storage closet they heard heavy breathing.

"Koko de suruno wa ikenai toomou..." A soft voice said from inside.

"Shizukani shitite kisu wo shiro yo!" Kaworu's demanding voice said. There was a gasp and a muffled moaning sound.

Hermione shut her mouth, her lips pressed together tightly, probably to keep from saying anything. Harry and Ron snickered.

"Kaworu's got a girl in there with him!" Ron exclaimed, quietly.

"Iine-sonnako to shita ra tatte shimasu!" Kaworu's voice rang out.

Hermione turned beat red. Harry and Ron looked at her for a translation but she couldn't reply to anything before the lovers in the closet spoke again.

"Ato do no kurai?" Kaworu asked.

"Ato chotto...bashite moii!" The softer voice moaned.

Kaworu's voice came again. "Kuchino nakani?" A moment passed. "Kui-mi-na aji dayo beibi - motto motto shite!" He growled lightly before speaking again. "Sono seifuku ga sonokini saseru - danshi gakusri wo sakinanda!"

A shy reply came from his lover. "Kudo kuno anata datte danshiga kusei jyanai!"

Hermione gasped, turning even redder and covering her mouth.

"What? What is it?" Harry asked in a whisper.

Hermione shook her head. The "love talk" continued.

"Anata kitsuiyo!" Kaworu moaned.

"Anata ookiine!" The other person cried out. "Tsuyoku! Fukaku!"

Kaworu's voice sounded demanding again. "Motto koewo dashite kireina otoko noko!"

"Anata ni kudo kareru no suki!" His lover screamed.

"Anata sugo ku kimochi ii - kitsui shi atsui!" There was a banging sound like a hand being pressed up hard against the wall. "Iku Iku!!"

The other person's response was simply an uttered gasp and loud moan. There came loud panting, some kissing sounds and smaller moans.

Harry and Ron waited anxiously to see who was in there with Kaworu. Ron was worried it might be Asuka...he still had a crush on her, even though her bitchy ways had yet to subside. The trio hid behind a wall, in such a way that they could still see the door.

"Mou ikanakucha mistukaru," Kaworu said.

The other voice agreed with his statement. "Hai."

There was the sound of scrambling, bumping into things, objects being knocked down. Finally the door opened and Kaworu came out. His hair was more disheveled than usual and his clothes were wrinkled and sloppily put on. He extended his hand and to Ron and Harry's surprise, Shinji walked out of the storage closet next.

Harry's jaw dropped. "He's gay?!"

Kaworu looked over quickly. "Who's there?"

The three in hiding came out into view. Kaworu and Shinji looked at the floor, blushing.

"Did you hear everything?" Shinji asked.

"Well...yes," Harry admitted. "But we didn't understand anything, except Hermione."

Hermione took a step back, her eyes glancing down. "I won't say anything...none of us will...but when you told me you were seeing someone..."

Kaworu sighed. "I'm very sorry Hermione. I didn't want anyone knowing...neither did Shinji."

Ron shook his head. "You certainly aren't as angelic as you seem."

Kaworu smirked a little. "Well...I'm only half-angel."

They laughed.

* * *

"Back at Platform 9 ¾," Hermione remarked, a bit sad.

Harry was sad to see the school year end too. "Back to the Dursleys."

"Back to my family as well," Kaworu said, obviously not thrilled.

"I'm a bit sad that my father didn't decide to stay at Hogwarts, but also...a little happy." Shinji smiled at Kaworu.

Kaworu grinned back at him. Asuka groaned as she walked past them. "Homos...get a room."

"That's something I won't miss," Hermione remarked.

Ron watched as Asuka walked off, his eyes fixated on her rear end. "Yeah..."

"We'll send letters by owl," Shinji told them.

"Promise," Kaworu added.

"We'll look out for them and if you're lucky, we might reply," Harry joked.

They laughed and the Japanese boys headed off after Asuka.

"You suppose Voldemort will return again?" Ron asked

"I don't know...but if he does, I'll be ready," Harry said.

Hermione sighed and smiled. "'God's in His Heaven...All's right with the world.'"
