Dreleske
"Come here," Severus beckoned to the small, shy creature.
"Dreleske...come here..." Severus said, taking a small step forward. The creature looked on with distrust in her wide gold eyes. She stood firm upon the ground on her four cloven hooves, and her horse body rippled with tension. The creature shook her head, a werewolf's head, as any learned wizard could see, and from the bristly forehead a long unicorn horn sprouted. A rippling, silky mane flowed from her neck and her glossy griffin wings were folded neatly against her back. And on one of her pure white flanks was a word--Dreleske. The creature's name.
Dreleske did not come, and remained in the same spot. Tears glistened in Severus's eyes as he slowly walked back to the Hogwarts castle, head bowed in sadness.
"Nokeb?" Dreleske asked.
"Dreleske!" Severus smiled. "Yes...yes I do love you...very much."
Severus ran to Dreleske and hugged him as Dreleske reared with joy and began to purr slowly, licking Severus' ear affectionately.
"Shlaarr," Dreleske piped up.
"Rsoalan messetola nipjelok sanola erutaere rupes?" Severus asked.
"Nokeb?" Dreleske asked again.
"Yes Dreleske, honey, I love you too, but you need to concentrate for me," Severus whimpered, yanking up his sleeve to reveal a gigantic wound. The cut had been so obviously made by a werewolf. It was a rather large bite, probably three inches in width and five inches in length.
Dreleske whimpered and began to lick his arm. Severus flinched, for the orangish-brown saliva of Dreleske stung badly, but it was worth the pain. His whole arm glowed a brilliant white and he let out a cry as he slowly lost consciousness. Dreleske whimpered again and sank to her knees and lay down next to Severus.
An hour or two later Severus awoke to the still night air. He felt something warm and cozy cuddled up next to him; he put his pale hand on Dreleske's soft silver fur. He sighed; it was only a matter of time before Dreleske would finally realize that he no longer needed her. She then would leave him for another lost child. She would travel back in time or forward in time to find him or her.
Dreleske slowly roused from her deep sleep. She lay there with her chin on the ground thinking... Why did she do this, get so attached to her children knowing she would eventually have to leave them. Why did she have to be the chosen one, why? She loved this child especially, but sensing his soon to be healed soul, she knew her time would come to leave him forever.
So many wonderful things were in store for this child. There would come a time when complete darkness would cover him, but a tiny beacon of light would help him through the terrible time. Half of that beacon would be the remembrance of Dreleske.
"I love you Dreleske," Severus sighed sadly.
"Do not sound so sad, child, for many good things are to come your way and I love you too very much... never forget."
"I won't... I promise," he choked out--he knew what was coming.
The same light that had so wonderfully healed Severus's arm came about once again. A searing emotional pain filled his heart as the light died to reveal nothing... an empty space... no Dreleske.
