At first, Ginny barely tolerated Luna. She was just a bit too odd for Ginny to handle. Even her housemates picked on her and stole her things. It just didn't seem like she was worth getting to know. She was the crazy Ravenclaw who rambled on about snorkacks and nargles and had more than one pair of radish shaped earrings. Honestly, Luna kind of freaked her out. Ginny would always be on the lookout for the other girl, trying to avoid her at all points.

After the business at the Ministry, Ginny thought to give Luna a chance. Instead of turning the other way when she saw Luna in the hallway, Ginny started calling her over and striking up conversations. Once she got to know her, the mannerisms that had previously been strange were kind of adorable. Luna's multicolored socks were somehow cute, and the radish earrings looked pretty nestled in her dirty blonde locks. Even the long dangly carrot earrings that she wore on rare occasions made Ginny smile instead of cringe. Soon Ginny was outraged at the behavior of the Ravenclaws towards Luna and had gotten into more than one fight over the theft of her belongings.

After the Christmas holidays in her fifth year, Ginny realized that she was often looking for Luna. Whenever she entered a room, she would check to see if the familiar dark blonde hair was anywhere in the room. There was a point where Ginny was spending more time tucked away in the library or sitting on the edge of the lake with Luna than with her own fellow Griffindors. Her string of boyfriends hardly registered, and she began blowing them off to hang out with Luna. There was just something horribly alluring about Luna. Ginny couldn't pinpoint exactly what it was, but she knew it left her enamored. She had even borrowed an issue of the Quibbler from Luna. It was no longer ridiculous or annoying, but Ginny found amusement in the colorful, inverted pages of the magazine. She kept it hidden in the bottom of her trunk and took it out whenever she was sad or upset. She could spend hours paging through Luna's favorite magazine.

It took Harry kissing her for Ginny to realize why she had been so keen on spending her time with Luna. It certainly wasn't the kiss that she had dreamed of since she was little. She felt embarrassed when she felt Ron's eyes on her. The public kiss wasn't fun, but rather too rushed and too clumsy. She felt pressured, and didn't know what else to do but go with Harry, though. She spent the rest of the year trying to avoid Harry, lest she be trapped in another snogging session or caught in the common room going over their Charms works together for hours on end. Instead, she sought out Luna even more than she had previously. By the end of the school year, she was spending more and more time outside by the edge of the lake laughing and chatting with the Ravenclaw.

When Harry had ended their relationship, Ginny knew her world was changing. First Dumbledore had been killed, and then Harry, Ron, and Hermione began spending lots of time in self enforced isolation. She overheard hushed conversations about journeys and Voldemort. They were obviously going on another great adventure and leaving her behind. Somehow, it didn't hurt as much as it had used to. Still, an overwhelming sense of loneliness hung about her, and she begged her mother to allow Luna to visit.

By July, Luna was at the Burrow, and Ginny had to figure out a way to do what she wanted. Ginny had never been in charge of her past relationships. The guys she dated always did all the asking and action parts of their relationships. She simply wasn't sure how to go about propositioning someone herself. Plus, she was in no hurry to lose Luna's friendship if the other girl didn't return her feelings.

Apparently, she shouldn't' have worried. It all happened three days into Luna's visit. The girls were lying out in the garden and picking daisies underneath the hot summer sun. Ginny plucked the petals off of hers and soon had a pile of them on her stomach. Luna was sitting up and weaving hers into a floral wreath. She tucked the last flower into place and held the wreath up to show Ginny. Then she crawled over to her and placed the flowers on Ginny's head. "A queen needs her crown," Luna told her with a giggle. She smiled down at Ginny, and Ginny saw something she didn't recognize in her wide blue eyes.

Taking a chance, Ginny whispered, "And the queen needs her consort," and reached up. She traced her fingertips across Luna's cheek and then pulled her down, gently pressing their lips together. The kiss was soft and sweet and over far too soon. Ginny looked up at Luna, nervously chewing on her lower lip.

"The consort is happy to oblige," Luna said with a grin. She bent down and caught Ginny's lips in a kiss. She ran her tongue over Ginny's lips, pressing her way inside the hot cavern of her mouth. She tasted of green apples and a faint hint of sugar. Luna explored, running her tongue over Ginny's teeth. Ginny moaned into the kiss, arching her body up against Luna's. Luna bit down on Ginny's lower lip and tugged, breaking the kiss. She sighed and then bent down to kiss her again, more than happy to spend the afternoon snogging among the daisies and garden gnomes.
