Eternal Flame

This was my first real date with Ginny Weasley. I had spent an entire week deciding when to ask her to go and where we would go. Finally I decided on a Muggle amusement park. I had never been to one before but had always wanted to.

"You ready?" I looked over at Ginny. Her eyes were shining with excitement.

She looked up at the monstrous roller coaster, towering 100 feet above us. "I think so. Come on, before I really start to think about it."

I led her through to the line. I saw there was a long wait, so I quickly took out my wand, muttered a spell, and tucked it away. I shot a glance around me, making sure no one saw.

"What did you do?" Ginny asks me.

"Just a charm to make us go unnoticed. Come on." With the help of the charm we slipped through the line, taking care not to knock anyone over, getting to the front, where people were loading the cars. Deciding not to make people angry by cutting in front to the gate we waited for maybe ten minutes for the front car. When it was our turn to go Ginny hesitated.

"What's wrong?" I asked her. I saw everyone getting in their cars and heard the guy behind me say "You getting in or not?".

"Come on," I said.

Ginny obeyed and got in cautiously. I helped strap her in, seeing the confusion in her eyes.

Everyone was in and the cars started to move up the first hill. Ginny looked terrified. I knew we had nearly a minutes before we reached the top.

"It's ok," was all I said.

"What if the car falls off the track and we're still strapped in?" she asked me.

"It won't."

She looks at me, still scared.

I smile at her.

"If you're that scared, close your eyes. Here." I held out my hand to her, wanting to comfort her in any way possible. She took it gratefully just as we reached the top of the hill. I looked at Ginny quickly and saw her eyes shut tight. Inside, I was just as scared as she was. I had never been on a roller coaster and who knows why I picked the biggest and fastest one in the park to be our first. 'Oh well,.' Was my last thought before we were hurdled down the hill.

"Omigod, that was insane!!!" Ginny was breathless after we got off the ride.

"Yeah." There was a certain lack of entusuasm in my voice, which was purely accidental. I had wanted to come off cool and calm but instead made me seem bored.

Ginny looked at me strangely. "What's wrong? That wasn't fun?"

I took Ginny's hand and pressed it to my chest. "Feel how fast my heart is beating? That's not from the ride. It does this every time I'm near you."

"I understand perfectly. I feel the same way." Ginny looked at me with her clear blue eyes for a minutes. Slowly, her head came closer to mine, until finally we're touching, lips to lips.

Later that day we were both exhausted and infinitely happy. We were both on what was to be our last ride of the day, the ferris wheel. I glanced over at Ginny, seeing she was asleep.

I watched her silently, loving her more than ever in this moment.

As the ride lurched clumsily to a stop, Ginny opened her eyes and looked at me sleepily. "Harry? Hi."

I grinned. "Hi Ginny." Just then it hit me how lucky I am to have someone so great in my life. Up until a few years ago I had felt like the loneliest person alive. Then I had been accepted into Hogwarts and life was good. Now, in my 5^th year, I have Ginny, and just now I realized that even with Ron and Hermione I was still alone inside. For once in my life, I feel...whole.
