99 Times

Lily Evans wanted to be left alone. Nothing could possibly make her feel better right now. She had nothing to say to anyone, and wished that her friends would just give up and go away!

"Lily! Please open up and talk to us!" Tamara called through the door to their dorm, which Lily had barricaded with her trunk to keep from being disturbed. Lily ignored her.

"Lily, please open the door! We don't want you to be alone right now!" Oh great, Lily thought, now they've got Katy here too.

"Lily!"

"Lily!"

"Lily please open the door!"
"LILY. LILY. LILY. LILY."

"WHAT!?!?!?!" She finally kicked her trunk out of the way and wrenched the door open, ready to scream at her so called friends for disturbing her right now!

"There we go, I told you it would work," Christina smirked.

"What do you guys want? Can't you see I'm trying to be depressed! You're making it REALLY hard you know!" Lily said angrily. She knew her friends meant well, but honestly, a couple of minutes to mourn her loss would be fabulous.

"We're here to be supportive," said Tamara. "We want to be here for you! I mean, he wasn't exactly very nice about it, now was he?"

"Come on, a guy like John is no good for you and you know it! I mean, who agrees to do something like that to a girl?" Lily had to admit, Katy had a point.

Two months ago, Lily started talking to a gorgeous Ravenclaw Quidditch player named Jonathan Dixon. After a couple of days, he asked her out on a date, and since then they had been officially dating. Lily had never been happier. John was everything you could want in a guy, gorgeous (face AND body), really nice, athletic, and so much more. Lily hated the girls who dated a guy for a week and declared themselves "in love", but she'd started feeling that way herself. She'd felt so good when she was around him, because she had never, EVER been noticed by boys before. She was a bit of a nerd, not to mention really shy when it came to boys. Plus, with that James Potter practically STALKING her every move, trying to get him to go out with her (as a joke with his friends, she was sure), she didn't have much time for boys. So, she and John were dating, and Lily was in love. However, today, reality had hit her like a bolt of lightning. She'd overheard a conversation John had with his friends, saying he was so close to getting her into bed that they would be paying him their five Galleons each by tomorrow night. There goes that relationship.

These thoughts brought tears to Lily's eyes again.

"But I should have seen the signs, but he was just so nice to me! I had no idea of what it really was!" Lily was on the verge of a hysterical sob fest. The three girls gave her a big hug.

"Come here, we nicked some strawberry ice cream from the kitchen, your favourite, and we're going to sit here and plot his miserable death! Okay?" Lily couldn't help but laugh at Christina's devious expression. Besides, even if nothing could make her feel better, nothing could make her feel worse, right?

Lily couldn't sleep. She couldn't stop crying! Her friends may have been helpful at the time, but once they left the tears all came rushing back. All she could think about was how hurt she was. She finally decided she might as well go sit in the common room with a good book, and maybe that would help clear her head.

When she got downstairs however, she realized that this was quite possibly the dumbest idea she had ever had. For when she arrived in the common room at 3:30 am, there happened to be someone already sitting in her favourite chair. The second last person she would want to see right now. James. Effing. Potter.

Don't let me catch you following.
Don't ask
because I'm not offering.
You caused enough of my suffering
.

"Hello Evans."

"Are you serious?" Lily couldn't believe her luck. She was this close to throwing herself off the Astronomy tower, and who does she meet in the common room? JAMES!

"I apologize, as my being here seems to be disrupting you. But I couldn't sleep knowing how sad you were." James put on a look of sadness and despair, and Lily would have bet all the Galleons in the world it was an act.

"Oh save it," she said bitterly. "You are the last person I would want to see right now. Probably going to ask me out again aren't you? Well I'll save you the time. The answer's still NO, Potter, and it will be NO for the rest of my life! Now shut up and let me read my book, or I will be forced to hurt you!"

James was absolutely shell-shocked. He stopped talking and continued to read his book. Probably some stupid Quidditch handbook, she thought angrily.

After 10 minutes or so, Lily realized that James was staring at her.

"WHAT!"

"Well, I am just curious why I'm the person you don't want to see right now. Personally, I thought it would have been Johnny boy... unless you have two kissed and made up?" After he said it, James had wished he hadn't, when he saw the tears welling up in her eyes.

"You think you're really funny, don't you James! But you know what? People like you, they are NOTHING to me. I despise people like you! Seriously, some days, I wish you would just DIE! And take stupid effing JOHN with you." Lily was crying now, and she had probably woken up half the house with her hollering. James had a look of great pain on his face, and before Lily knew it, he had jumped up and put his arms around her. She didn't care that it was James, she just sobbed into his chest, letting out all the pain she'd been trying to make disappear.
