- Author's Note:
- Hiya! This is a little different from what you're used to from me, If you've read any of my other fics, but I hope you like it anyway.
Tears covered her face. Why, oh why couldn't he feel the same? She made her final decision. Tonight she would do it.
She sat on the edge of her bed, making her last letters. One to Ron, one to her parents, one to Dumbledore for the rest of the school to hear, and one to..... Harry.
As she made her way to the lake, after delivering her letters under doors, she thought about everything. Everything she'd achieved, everything she'd ever done, everything that was anything at all, flowed through her mind. Her good grades, her awards, solving mysteries with Harry and Ron, the list was endless.
She remembered all the good times. Flying with Harry on Buckbeak in their third year, finding the Philosopher's stone, hitting Malfoy right in the face (oh, how she loved that moment), Divination lessons..... they'd always been the best. Not the most interesting, or the best learning opportunities, but just the best. For no particular reason. Ron's stupid remarks ("there's going to be lots of fog tonight"), Professor Trelawney's daft predictions, the smell of that classroom, how they'd all laugh at the lesson afterwards, but then she had just stormed out like that, and all the fun ended.
Then she remembered the bad times. The argument over a rat and a broomstick in their third year, the time Harry and Ron had fallen out over the Tri-wizard tournament and she had found it hard to be friends with both of them, all the other arguments over petty little things, but none of it mattered. Not now.
The last thing she thought about before she reached the lake was Harry. Sweet, kind, brave Harry. The way he looked when bangs of jet black hair fell into his face, those sparkling emerald green eyes, and that smile that never failed to make her go weak at the knees. The way he smelt, a fresh, sharp smell of oranges and cinnamon that she loved to breathe in at every possible opportunity. She loved him. He was the reason she was doing this.
When she was at the lakeside, she started to climb the massive stony peak on the grassy bank. Her feet were sore because she had nothing on them, and there were cuts on her palms made by the jagged rock. But she kept on climbing.
A hundred of feet into the air, right at the top, she stopped. She stood there, not moving. This was it. She didn't think she'd be sorely missed. No-one would miss Hermione Granger, the Muggle-born brainbox.
Wow, she thought, I am high up. Professor McGonnagall said anyone jumping from here would die upon hitting the water. I don't believe I'm doing this. I must be stupid. But I can't live feeling so rejected. Curse you, damn boy. Why did you have to walk into my life, steal my heart, then stamp on it? Well, death, here I come. Goodbye, cruel world. Goodbye, Harry Potter.
With these last thoughts in mind, she jumped, never to see the world again.
And, in a boy's dormitory, up in Gryffindor tower, tears streamed down Harry Potter's face, upon reading a letter and learning that his true love had been taken from this world.

A/N: I thought I'd try something a little different from my usual style. It's in Astronomy Tower because I didn't think it was dramatic enough for The Dark Arts. Please R/R, mainly because I want to know if you like me doing this sort of thing.
