Chapter 10:

What must have been hours later Ginny woke and felt something warm in her lap. She opened her eyes and found Draco had curled up next to her with his head in her lap.

Hardly daring to breathe, Ginny reached down and touched his face. He stirred and opened his blood-encrusted eyes a slit.

"Gin?" Draco said confusedly in a gravelly voice.

Ginny's eyes filled with tears and she broke down, touching her forehead to his and crying. Somehow she managed to get out, "Yes, Draco, I'm here."

A ghost of a smile crossed his features and he rested for a minute before he gathered enough strength to sit up and face her. "What are you doing here?" he asked.

"Rescuing you," Ginny said with a shaky smile.

"You shouldn't be here," Draco said urgently. "Now they have a bargaining chip! They can't kill me, I'm too valuable, but they won't hesitate to kill you to get me to do what they want!"

"But Harry knows where we are! He's getting help right now! Besides I had to know you were ok," said Ginny. "We need you."

Draco snorted weakly. "Potter needs me? That'll be the day. Honestly Gin."

"I didn't mean me and Harry," Ginny whispered. "I meant me and ... well me and the baby."

Draco's eyes widened a little and he winced at the pain it caused. "What baby?" Draco breathed.

"I'm pregnant," Ginny said with tear-filled eyes.

Draco leaned in and kissed her with his cracked lips, then hugged her tightly, not caring about the pain it caused him to do so.

"I love you Gin," Draco said.

"I love you too Drac," Ginny replied.

"What a touching sight," said a chilling voice.

Lucius Malfoy stood in the doorway, flanked by at least six guards. "It almost brought tears to my eyes. My Mudblood-loving son and daughter-in-law are going to have a little Mudblood-loving brat," Lucius sighed theatrically. "It's almost enough to make me sick."

Ginny stared at Lucius with pure hate shining in her blazing brown eyes. Lucius met her gaze and chills ran down her spine, but she refused to be the one to look away first. "The time is drawing near. Let's go," Lucius said, turning his back to Ginny and Draco.

Four guards came into the cell and grabbed Ginny and Draco. They emerged from the dungeon into a hallway that seemed uncomfortably familiar to Ginny. When she finally realized the reason she couldn't help crying out. Draco, whose eyes were clenched shut against the pain asked, "What is it?"

"We're at Hogwarts," Ginny breathed as they walked up the stairs that lead out of the dungeons.

How were they able to take over Hogwarts? Ginny thought wildly as they were led through the maze of corridors that made up Hogwarts. Hogwarts is the safest place in the world . . . At least it was when Dumbledore was here. But he's not here anymore is he. Ginny's eyes narrowed. Snape is.

After Dumbledore had been elected Minister of Magic, everyone had assumed Professor McGonagall would become the Headmistress of Hogwarts. It shocked everyone when she announced that she was retiring to take care of her ailing mother. Snape had been next in line to take the job. Many eyebrows had been raised when he took over, but no one had ever actually spoken up.

Looks like someone should have, Ginny thought bitterly as she emerged into the Great Hall. Snape stood at the front at almost the exact same place that Draco had slain Voldemort all those years ago. And he was holding the sword. Ginny's escorts stopped her a few feet away from Snape. Lucius continued to Snape and took the sword from his hands, then turned to Draco.

"Now, are you going to do what we want or do we have to do this the hard way?" Lucius asked his son.

Draco's pain suddenly disappeared as he grinned at his father and said, "Now Dad, when have I ever made anything easy for you?"

Lucius matched his grin then lifted his wand and pointed it at Draco. However, at the last second, he turned his wand on Ginny and screamed, "Crucio!"

Waves of white hot agony coursed through Ginny. She cried and fell to the floor, the guards releasing her. Ringing filled her ears and tears filled her eyes. Everything in her body was screaming with agony. Then, just as abruptly as it started, it ended. Ginny lay gasping on the floor.

When she finally raised her eyes, she found Draco standing where Voldemort had finally died, holding the sword he had killed him with.

"We've been over this. You know what to say," said Lucius, his eyes glinting with childish anticipation. He looked up at the night sky that was the Great Hall's bewitched ceiling. The moon was directly over Draco's head. Lucius dropped his eyes back to his son. "Begin."

"Alanestra evokar planar," Draco began, his eyes locked with his fathers and blazing with anger. "Evanesta alanka luminosca." Draco shifted his eyes to Ginny and continued. Their eyes locked and suddenly Draco could hear everything Draco was thinking. God I love you so much Gin, don't ever forget that. I wanted to be there for you and the baby, but even more I want there to be a Ginny Weasley Malfoy and a baby. I'm doing this for us . . . all of us. I love you and that baby more than life itself. Goodbye love.

I love you, Ginny thought back, her eyes welling with tears. Draco finished the last line. Ginny wanted to look away, but found she couldn't tear her eyes away from the horrifying scene that was about to take place in front of her. Draco moved the sword around so he could grasp the blade and finish the deed.

However, when Draco's fingers touched the blade, there was a pop and he was gone. Silence reigned in the hall for a few seconds while Ginny's mind raced frantically for an explanation.

Harry! she suddenly realized. He turned the blade into a Portkey. Draco's safe!

She was quickly reminded of her unpleasant situation when Lucius Malfoy cried, "Seize her!"

The guards were shaken out of their stupor of surprise and lifted her bodily off the floor to stand between them. Lucius approached her with murder shining through the insanity in his eyes. "What did you do you little bitch! You ruined everything! Bring him back or I will kill that worthless life inside you!" He shrugged and gave a chilling chuckle. "I'll be doing it a favor." He turned serious again and put his face right up in hers and said, "So, daughter, who's it going to be? Your husband, or your baby?"
