Hermione stared at her transfiguration textbook in front of her, reading the same paragraph for about the 13th time. She was thinking about the same thing, or person, she was thinking about ever since their sixth year started. She sighed. Could I be going crazy? He is my BEST FRIEND for god sakes! Why? Why do I have to be the one to fall for Ron? If I tell him this, he's probably going to laugh his head off!

Hermione closed her eyes and sighed in frustration as she imagined what Ron would say if he discovered her feelings for him. "What? Are you saying you love me?! Whoa, sorry Hermione. I mean, I really like you and everything, you're a good friend. But that's just it, you're my FRIEND, nothing more."

"Hermione! HERMIONE! Are you okay? It looked like you were dozing off. Can I get you something?" Ron's face loomed in front of Hermione as she slowly opened her eyes. For a moment, she couldn't say anything. All she could think of was how cute he looked with that confused expression on his face. She forced a smile on her face and said: "Yeah, I'm alright."

Ron's heart pounded like crazy as Hermione came down to dinner that night. Oh God, I'm at it again. What's wrong with me? Do I really fancy her? I must. Oh no, what is she going to think when I tell he-

"Hi Ron, where's Harry?" Hermione's voice interrupted his thoughts.

"Uh- wha'?" he asked thickly.

"I asked you where is Harry?"

"Here I am." Harry sat down beside Ron and Hermione. "I was looking for my Potions book."

None of them said very much during eating. Ron and Hermione would occasionally steal glances at each other, but that was pretty much it.

"Well, I better get going if I want to finish my homework for today. See you Harry, Ron."

They both watched silently as she walked out of the Great Hall.

"I'm telling you mate, just go and snog her."

Ron blushed a deep shade of magenta. "What made you say that?" he demanded, trying not to go any redder.

"Oh come on, ANYBODY could see that you fancy her, except her." Harry said exasperated. "And to be honest, anybody could see that she likes YOU, except you."

Hermione watched intently as Ron stumbled into the common room. I wonder if he's going to say something.

As if on cue, Ron opened his mouth and mumbled something that sounded like 'ffmlumfyu'

"Sorry?"

Ron moved closer to her and sat down beside her on the couch. "I was just going to say um, that um, you know...." His voice trailed off.

"Listen Ron, I don't have all night. If you want to say something, say it. Don't play games with me."

Hermione couldn't help but notice that he moved even closer, so that their lips were just half a metre apart. "Hermione, I...like you....a lot."

Could he mean what I think he means? But then felt vexed with herself for thinking that. It was probably just a joke or something. Still, she couldn't ignore the tinest bubble of hope in her heart.

"Well, I like you too Ron, I thought you knew that. We're best friends."

Ron looked like he rather swallow a spider than to say what he was about to say. "No, Hermione. I mean, as in...more....more t...than f....friends. I ...love....you."

Hermione was so relived and happy that she felt her eyes immediately started filling with tears.

Ron looked positively terrified. "Sorry Hermione," he said hurriedly, apparently taking her reaction the wrong way. "I should have known that you couldn't feel the same way. I've ruined our friendship. Let's just forget everything I said, okay?"

Hermione just leaned in and locked lips with Ron.
