Story Summary:
Hermione Granger is a wounded sixth year with much lost in her life. The man who loves her does not love her back, and if she fell in love with the man who does love her, there's no turning back. As Hermione sinks into a depression, her own thoughts become darker and darker, and there looks like no way out. First in hopefully many chaptered songfics. This songfic is made out of all the songs on the CD Fallen, by Evanescence.

Author's Note:
Well hello! Thanks for checking out my story! I have to say, I surprised myself with this idea. To explain a bit, what this is is a story, with each chapter being a sonfig to a different song on the Evanescence CD. It's quite simple to understand, and I hope this turns out well! For this chapter, I have to say, in the song lyrics, * indicates a small gender change, allowing the song to fit the story better. I hope you enjoy!

Chapter 1 - Everybody's Fool

Hermione Granger stumbled out of her Arithmancy classroom. Why does this Professor always assign so much homework? She groaned to herself. She had been up to three in the morning finishing last night's homework, and now, unless she worked through dinner, she was going to be up even later.

As the sixth year girl slowly turned the corner toward the Gryffindor Common Room, she heard a laugh. Peeking around the wall, she spied two prefects, both in Gryffindor, walking toward the Gryffindor Common Room. Not wanting to bump into them (even though she had no reason to avoid them), she quickly turned and walking in the opposite direction, knowing they were coming closer. Suddenly, she spied a green tapestry depicting a picture of smoke; just simple green smoke. She ran through it and sprinted down the passageway behind it, knowing she had only minutes before the prefects would reach the portrait hole. After a minute or two of running, she came to an identical tapestry as the one she entered by, this one being red. She ran through it, and found herself in front of the Fat Lady.

"Peas and carrots," she said, and once the picture swung open, she dashed into the small hole it revealed and ran over to a glossy table by the fireplace, where a boy was already sitting. She collapsed into a chair and tossed her book bag onto the table, just missing the boy's homework, her chest heaving as she tried to slow her heartbeat.

"I'm going to have to guess the smoke tapestries," said the boy without even looking up. "Either that or the statue of Percivel the Prince on the fifth floor." Hermione made a laughing type noise in her throat, and Harry Potter looked up.

"The first one," she said smiling. Six years in the castle, plus having Harry Potter as her best friend, had given her knowledge to nearly every secret passage in the school. Suddenly, the portrait door creaked open, and the two prefects Hermione had been avoiding entered the room.

Perfect by nature

Icons of self indulgence

Hermione slowly turned and pulled her Arithmancy book from her bag, her shoulders hunched.

"Oh boy," breathed Harry.

Just what we all need

"Hello Harry," said a cheery voice from behind Hermione. Hermione groaned to herself. He was exactly the last person she wanted to see.

More lies about a world that-

"Err..., hello Ron," said Harry uncomfortably as one of the prefects sat down on Hermione's left, across from Harry.

Never was and never will be

Have you no shame don't you see me

You know you've got everybody fooled

Hermione pulled her book up the same time as she fell forward, thrusting her chin onto the table, so her face was hidden. Ron glanced for s split second at this action, but gave no other sign that he noticed it and returned to his conversation with Harry. "So, we've got a Quidditch practice right after dinner. You can make it, right?"

"Yes Ron, you asked me this morning."

"Well, I was just making sure. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to get ready for dinner."

Look, here *he comes now,

Bow down and stare in wonder

Oh how we love you

No flaws when you're pretending

Ron got up and headed up the spiral staircase behind them. Once he had disappeared from view, Hermione sat up straight. "Get ready for dinner?" she said in disgust. "What does he have to do, change his robes and polish his badge?"

But now I know *he

Never was and never will be

You don't know how you've betrayed me

And somehow you've got everybody fooled

"Hermione," said Harry sternly, and Hermione stopped. She knew that Ron often insulted her the same way she was doing, and she knew that Harry had to, but didn't like to, listen to it. She knew it was hard on him, that his two best friends hated each other, but she couldn't help it. After all he'd done, all he'd done for her, all he'd done TO her.

Without the mask

Where will you hide?

Can't find yourself

Lost in your lie

Hermione scowled. It had seemed like that all of Gryffindor tower was involved with it when it happened. But now she was older, and smarter. She wasn't going to let him get to her. Not again.

I know the truth now

I know who you are

And I don't love you anymore

It-

Never was and never will be

You don't know how you've betrayed me

And somehow you've got everybody fooled

It never was and never will be

You're not real and you can't save me

She was her own person now.

And somehow now you're everybody's fool

Yet, often times, she couldn't stop but wonder: Why?
