Into the Unknown

There was a world that should not exist. One that the gods created when the Old World got to boring, rules and more rules. They divided the place up into their own quarters and had their own wacko rules about them. It was a place where the nightmares existed and monsters and mystical creatures. Every kind of creature you can possibly imagine existed there, and gods on top of that. Where the rules are different the way people behave are different, and the customs are even weirder. Then there are the real-worlders; ones that come from the Old World appear, more danger is sure to follow. When danger follows, wreckage is left behind. Life in the Everworld was always an adventure wherever you were there; you couldn't escape it no matter where you went. Here is my account of the Everworld, but it starts in the real world, sitting on the couch in front of the television. My name is Tyro Levins. My father was outside tending to the weeds and mother was in the kitchen.

"Oh Delilah I love you!" a man on the meaningless soap opera cried out, "please don't leave me!"

"Get stuffed Paul you had your chance and you blew it!" the woman flared running off on Paul.

I sighed then changed the channel. A stupid cartoon. Nothing on. Damnation, now what? Standing up I walked outside to find father at the weeds still.

"Hey dad, bye dad," I said heading down the driveway. I got out my cell and rung Lily, one of my friends.

She was okay, red hair, green eyes, and wore skimpy girly clothes and had this really annoying big sister called Petunia. Petunia always got in the way when we were trying to talk.

"Hey Lil, wanna go to the shops? I know your only back in the summer!" I invited, "I watched this soap and it was boring."

"Okay, I'll be right over!" Lily replied happily.

Soon enough, I saw Lily run and grab me in a hug.

"Tyro how have you been?" Lily asked pulling away, eyes shining happily. I grinned, a smile so rarely seen crossing my lips.

"Great, absolutely fantastic, so, how was boarding school?" I asked leading her to the park.

"Oh it was okay. I met these annoying boys, oh what were their names--James, Remus and Sirius, and that little wimp who kept following them around, Peter. They're okay, but when they pick on people it's a little annoying," Lily replied calmly.

"So d'you think we have any chance of crashing a party tonight?" I asked looking up at the sky. It looked ready to pour down.

"Yeah, Johnny--you know, that popular guy in school? He invited me over for a party and told me to tell you to come," Lily said sounding rather pleased with herself.

"Wow cool! Party down yay!" I exclaimed happily punching my fist in the air. Damn, I'd forgotten! Dad! What would he say to me partying? Oh well, I would go anyway, no matter what he said--I'd sneak out. I hugged Lily goodbye and told her I'd see her at the party. Running home I met Dad in the driveway, with his arms crossed angrily. Uh oh.

"Hey Daddy w'sup?" I said smiling heartily.

"I think we need to talk, Tyro," Dad said sighing heavily. His brow knitted with worry, I could see it in his face. Something was bothering him pretty badly and I didn't know what it was. Something was definitely not right.

"Okay Dad, lead the way!" I said trying to sound happy as I followed him inside the house. This was when I was to find out about the Everworld, that my father used to go back and fourth and so fourth. He'll explain it not me.

"Take a seat," Dad said pointing to the couch, "Good girl."

Something was definitely up. Something bad. Whatever it was I had to work out what before something went terribly wrong, and maybe going to the party tonight would be a big mistake, but I won't spoil it for you.

"Now I've been keeping a few things from both you and your mother. I should've been completely honest because it's going to put you both in danger if we're not careful Tyro. You've been told plenty of times what your name means, haven't you dear? It means To Learn. All the time, it's what you do isn't it? Learn new things. You love it don't you?" Dad asked sadly. I nodded, of course I loved learning new things, mythology especially, mythology and history and many many things like that. I loved magic and how it worked. It was something I loved.

"Yes father, of course I like to learn!" I replied happily, "Always learning aren't I? From my mistakes, parties' adventures--which reminds me, Daddy, before you start talking, I wanna ask you something. There is this party on tonight that I want to go to. Can I go?" I asked quickly.

"You may go to this party but only if you be careful. My adventures started at a party like yours, Tyro. Have you ever been told about a place that shouldn't exist, ever? A place I go to frequently, a place where danger lurks around every corner, you're beloved mythology lives on," Dad said calmly.

"Other worlds--another dimension? Yeah I've seen TV program's about other dimensions. Or like His Dark Materials, you know, that awesome trilogy?" I asked curious now about this Everworld.

"Yes, like His Dark Materials, only much much worse. Like every horror story you've read, written into one world. Every mythical creature bonded by the one world alone. I'm going to tell you how the Everworld came to be. The real world, this world, with all it's rules, all it's laws, became to frustrating and boring for the gods. Together, in one unity, they created the Everworld. The Everworld lived okay, for a short time. Until alien gods from other universes came to try and take it over. There was this one god, Ka Anor, who tried to take over the Everworld whom my friends and I defeated. His one power was that he could eat other gods. Sure it was horrible, but we had problems, the fact is we were dragged there by a witch known as Senna, but she's dead," Dad explained carefully and calmly. I shuddered, this story was sounding worse and worse by the minute.

My god, all of the Greek, African, American, Indian, every single bloody god you can imagine lived on Everworld! Everworld was a patchwork planet. Patchwork! Different climates for different gods. Different customs and religions and my Dad never bowed down to any of them, but never followed a belief. He was supposed to be a Jew--I expect he gave up his religion pretty quickly after he left home. The Everworld seemed to be a monstrous place with nothing but horrors in store for everyone. I guess this meant that there was time to learn more about the Everworld, but why would Dad tell me if he lived partly in the Everworld? Scary. Very frightening prospect.

*

Later that evening I went to the party as planned trying not to think about the Everworld, it was hard, but hell! I'd give anything for Father not to have told me about that place. But if he hadn't told me then I wouldn't've been prepared for tonight. I met Lily outside the gates of Johnny's house. Johnny walked up to us and let us in to the yelling screaming girls who were giggling loudly, and some of the guys who were drinking beer. I spotted Rick, this nice funny dude who had this awesome sense of humor gulping down a few beers and entertaining the many girls that were crowding him. This normally wouldn't bother me if it was any other guy, but this guy was one of my Dad's friend's sons. We'd known each other since we were babies. He saw me then looked at the girls.

"Sorry girls, my friend Tyro's here," he said weaving his way out of the crowd.

"What in the hell was that about?" I snapped peevishly.

"Hell baby, you should see them swooning all over me!" Rick said downing another beer as I dragged him away.

"You're drunk!" I exclaimed accusingly, "anyway, I wanted you to meet my friend Lily Evans."

"Hey babe!" Rick said shaking her hand. Lily blushed then looked across the swimming pool. Her mouth dropped open, she must've seen someone she knew. "Oi! Sev mate, I want you to meet me new friends, Lil and Tye."

"It's Tyro, Ricky, and you know well enough that you're drunk!" I snapped snatching the drink from him and downing the rest of it so he couldn't have any. He did puppy dog eyes at me well Sev sauntered over to us.

"Hey Rick," Sev said. His eyes immediately widened when he saw Lily then pretended he didn't know her just as Lily was pretending she didn't know him. Something was definitely up.

Suddenly there was a loud bang sounding from the other side of the swimming pool.

"What the?" I asked looking at the other three. Lily shrugged and started running for the sound. Besides my instincts telling me to run away, I didn't and idiotically followed her. I saw Rick and Sev running behind me towards the sound.

I heard a blearing noise and saw a pretty little light show as we were sucked into the place you all know as the Everworld.

Then everything went black.

Ah ha a cliffhanger, finally. Now we come to the end of the chapter.

Lily Evans: April's daughter

Severus Snape: Christopher's son

Rick: Jalil's son

Tyro: David's daughter

Now you know who the major characters are in my story. Ooh I soooo like this now! I could write all day but I'm not going to . . . I've got to get back to homework! Christopher changed his last name so nobody that was even close to the Everworld would find him and drag him back, but Christopher kept his first name.
