All The Things She Said

They met in the same place as usual; midnight, Room of Requirement. It had been like that since the beginning of their seventh year. Their forbidden love.

He kissed her softly on the lips when she arrived. "What took you so long, I've missed you," he said.

She looked him in the eyes. "They were still in the Common Room. If I left, they would've asked where I was going."

They lay on the cushions around the room, staring at the dark sky outside through the magical ceiling, holding each other. It was a beautiful night. And that was the perfect place, just where they needed to be with each other.

"I'm tired of hiding. I'm tired of lies," she said.

"You know there is nothing that can be done," he said.

"I love you. But I don't know how much longer I can take this."

He kissed her. She tried to get away, but finally gave in. It took her a while to come back to her senses.

"I want you to myself. I do not like seeing that girl all over you, during the day. How can I know if you are being sincere?"

"I can't tell her off. My Father expects us to be together. It is a good cover. He would kill me if he found out about us."

"I love you, but this is not enough. You have to do something about it. I don't believe you care for me that much," she said, getting up and leaving him, with tears in her eyes.

The next day, he tried to talk to her, but she would not even look at him during Potions. Between class, her stupid friends would always surround her. During meal times, he would look at her. She would be laughing and talking to Potter and Weasel. Not that he would ever admit it to them, but he was jealous. Not for the first time, he wanted to kill them. He wanted to not have to worry about receiving the Mark after school, not having to obey someone like his father. If he could just be able to spend time with her, and not to need her so badly.

Upon seeing Pansy, She glared at Draco. She could not have looked more disgusted when Pansy kissed him. Even when Draco pushed her away, it did not make Her look any better. That was the only time She acknowledged him at all. And ignoring him was worse than being angry with him, somehow.

They had a prefect's meeting a few nights later. Draco was going insane. He had to talk to her, had to make her see.

She was the Head Girl. He was looking at her while she talked, but he could not listen to a word she was saying. The new passwords, how to handle Peeves, actions to take when students are misbehaving, events to help…. The meet seemed to never be over. Time did not pass. He had to make some excuse to be alone with her, so he can talk to her, before she leaves with Weasel back to the Gryffindor Tower.

"And that's it for tonight. I think we said everything. The next meet is in two weeks, same time!"

People started getting up to leave, most talking excitedly with their friends. Hermione was gathering her pieces of parchment used in the meet together quickly. Ron was waiting for her. The three of them were the only ones left.

"Granger, I need to talk to you about something that shouldn't be happening at the Astronomy Tower at night. Can I have a word with you? That means get out of here, Weasel!" he said, seeing that Ron was still there.

"Hey, I'm Head Boy, I am allowed to take points off you for that and -"

"Ron, that's OK. I can handle it. You can go. Maybe you and Harry can start off on your homework before I get there."

"But why can't I stay?"

"Ron, please just go."

"You heard her. Back off, Weasel. Or can't you even afford brains?"

"Malfoy, if you hurt her I swear I will curse you and it will take months to find all your pieces."

"Ron," said Hermione in a warning voice, then he left.

Draco did not reply because of the disapproving look on her face. He did not want to leave her any more angry with him. When Ron was out of earshot, Draco looked at Hermione, but he was lost for words. It was hard to express what he wanted to say.

"So?" she said, looking at him, "I guess this doesn't have to do with what shouldn't happen at the Astronomy Tower at night, does it?"

"Well it 'shouldn't' be used as a place of make out by any other students but us."

At this her expression softened. A moment of silence fell.

"I love you."

"How can you say that? How can you make me believe in you?" she replied in a sad and angry tone.

"I'm never going to get close to her again, even if you hadn't asked. Being with her only makes me want to be with you even more,"

He got closer to her and kissed her passionately. She pushed him away with tears in her eyes.

"Are you sure?" she said. "Are you going against your father? Are you willing to sacrifice that for me? It is more than just she is. It is having this, just in secret. Maybe it's not enough."

He just lay in his bed, no sign of sleep. He was staring at a necklace. It was engraved 'Always Yours' on the little hanging silver key. She had a similar necklace with a little heart with a keyhole. It could be opened with his key and inside, was their picture. He remembered how happy she was when she got it. It was charmed to when both of them were wearing it, it would feel warm and shiny. Draco knew she was not wearing hers anymore.

He would have to give up everything for her. There was no other choice. But she would be worth it. That was decided.
It was nearly the end of the year. It was time to choose his path. Soon he would be out of Hogwarts. But how could he do this? He did not know where to start.

Hermione received a note from a gray owl during breakfast.

She looked over to the Slytherin table, but he was nowhere to be found. Harry and Ron were trying to read the note, but she quickly put it inside and pocket and tried to talk about something else. A few minutes later, she received a dozen of black roses, one of the rarest and most beautiful flowers. It caught a lot of people's attention. Parvati and Lavender were going crazy, trying to figure out whose these flowers were from. Ron had a jealous look on his face. Her heart felt lighter and she tried to hide the smile from her face all day.

Draco found her alone in the library, just before dinnertime. She smiled when she saw him. He came to her and kissed her cheeks lightly.

They headed together to the Great Hall holding hands.

Everyone turned and started to whisper.

"A Gryffindor with a Slytherin?" people were saying, with surprised looks on their faces. Some did not believe in what they were seeing. The Slytherins were angry.

"Draco with the Mudblood?"

Pansy was the worse of all. "Wait until I tell his Dad! The disappointment! How could he prefer her to me? A Mudblood!"

It was not much better at the Gryffindor table. Ron was surely having an attack. Harry, who was trying not to let him, attack Draco, especially after their small kiss, in front of the whole school, was in fact, holding him.

He was happy. With her on his side, he would face anything. He would do whatever it takes. His necklace was warm again. They were making planes for after graduation, and they did not include receiving the Mark.
