Chapter Seven

At around ten, Hermione thought it would be safe, so they slipped the invisibility cloak on over themselves. She remembered in their first year when her, Harry and Ron had all fit under the cloak so easily, however, Draco was very tall which made the task a bit more difficult.

"Ow!" Hermione whispered. "That was my foot!"

"Sorry, I can't see a thing," Draco apologized.

They quickly slipped out the door and down the stairs. They headed towards the kitchens. Hermione felt like grabbing a few snacks. She suddenly had a craving for chocolate.

Hermione tickled the pear, and the door swung open. The house elves stared at the open portrait, obviously confused that the portrait had opened, but no one was there.

Hermione pulled the cloak off of them and smiled. Dobby dashed forward. "Miss, you is a friend of Harry Potter!"

"Hello, Dobby. How is Winky?" she asked, worried about Mr. Crouch's elf who was suffering from depression after being fired by her master.

"Oh, Winky is still in an awful state." Dobby gasped, noticing Draco. "Master!"

"Dobby? You work here?" Draco snarled.

"Draco, don't say anything," Hermione said. She then turned to Dobby. "Dobby, do you think I could have some chocolate?"

About twelve house elves dashed over with plates of chocolate. Hermione pulled out her bag and watched as they poured the chocolate in.

"Thank you!" Hermione thanked them before she and Draco left.

Draco and Hermione decided to go back to the room in case teachers were roaming the halls. As they walked up the stairs, Hermione glanced at the Marauder's Map.

"No!" Hermione whispered rather loudly.

"What?"

"Snape is walking down the stairs! We need to get away," Hermione said, panicking. "C'mon, let's go this way!"

Hermione and Draco dashed inside an empty classroom. She watched the map as Draco watched the window on the classroom door.

Snape walked past the room and down the stairs. Hermione watched the map, showing him walking down into the dungeons.

"Okay, it's safe," Hermione told him as they walked out of the classroom and up the stairs.

Hermione stared at the map as they walked up the stairs. She didn't want any more close calls. As they reached their quarters, Hermione foot got caught. Her foot had sunken into the Sinking Step.

Draco tried to continue walking, but stopped, realizing Hermione was stuck.

"Help me out," Hermione whispered.

He grabbed her arms and gave a hard tug. Nothing happened.

"Why are you so heavy?" Draco asked.

"Just get me out!" Hermione whispered, ignoring his rude comment.

Draco pulled again and her foot gently slid out. Draco hadn't expected her foot to come out and was taken by surprise when she leaned on him. He fell backwards on the stairs, Hermione lying on top of him.

Draco looked a bit startled, but didn't throw her off of him. Instead, he asked, "Are you alright?"

"Yes," Hermione answered, looking into his grayish blue eyes. "Thank you," she said quietly.

"No problem, now, let's get to the room, before a teacher find us."

They quickly got up and ran toward the room. When they got inside, they took off the invisibility cloak and Hermione wiped the map blank.

She looked over at Draco. He was sitting on his bed, taking off his shoes. Hermione walked towards his bed and sat down next to him. He looked up at her and said, "Yes?"

Hermione leaned toward him and gave him a sweet kiss. He gently opened his mouth and greeted the kiss.

When they broke away, Draco asked, "What was that for?"

"For helping me at the Sinking Step," Hermione answered.

Draco smiled. He reached for her head and pulled her chin toward his face. Their lips met again and Hermione's heart melted. He likes me, and I like him.
