The Dragon's Debt
It had been three years since Ginny had left Hogwarts. She was now twenty and more miserable than ever. Her mind seemed to always drift to her seventh year... That horrible, miserable, dreadful, can't of happened, no words to describe it, year. Tonight, lying in her bed, she couldn't stop thinking about it.
--Flashback--
It had been a cold December morning. It was a cheerful morning though. She was going home for the Christmas holidays. She was going to see her whole family. She could hardly wait to see all their smiling faces.
Bill and Charlie.
Percy, "Oh Percy," she thought, "please don't have work... Please, please, please!" Thank God he had started talking to the family again. She had missed him so.
Fred and George, whose joke shop had been managing so well, she couldn't believe that!
She especially wanted to see Ron, who she had dearly missed that year.
Ron's wife not to mention her best friend, Hermione, would be there too.
Mostly though, all her thoughts that morning was on Harry. She and him had finally gotten together in his seventh year and they couldn't be happier. This would be the first time they had seen each other in months. They loved each other more than each could ever imagine.
Ginny and her school friends were waiting on the Hogwarts Express in a cozy compartment, the train running a little late. The speaker sounded, "Hogwarts students, we are sorry for the delay but snow has blocked the track on the way to Platform 9 3/4." Slight gasps of panic could be heard. "Don't worry though, the snow will be cleared up. The delay will only be for an hour, two at the most." Sighs of relief.
Ginny didn't feel such relief though. She felt something much different from relief. "Snow never blocked the tracks before," she thought. But she decided to just put that feeling in the back of her mind, thinking that whether it was worry or anger, she shouldn't let her friends see her in such a state. "It probably IS just anger, for not being able to see everyone when I wanted. Stupid snow." With that last thought, she started chatting with her friends and what felt like hours later, the train started rumbling and the whistle could be heard. Thank heavens they were off.
**
She got to the train station, expecting to see everyone waiting for her. Expecting to see Harry. Her love. But... no one, not one person was there to greet her. "Very curious indeed..." Ginny thought, "Maybe they are waiting for me at home."
That feeling that she had pushed back nearly three hours before was slowly making its way back into her thoughts.
Ginny had gotten to the Burrow by taking a cab. She just dropped all of her things on the lawn, "The boys can get it later," she thought, and paid the driver. She then went to the door, noticing it was slightly open, she slid through, calling out, "Mum, Dad, Harry? Is anyone here? Please guys this is not bloody funny! I am getting scared... Please come out, its really not fun-"
Ginny's horrified screaming interrupted the word funny. As she had turned the corner into the living room, she had noticed her family lying there, all dead on the floor. "They are just sleeping. Sleeping. Just sleeping," she whispered frantically to herself trying to make herself believe it, although she knew the truth. She was freaking out looking from one to the other as tears came pouring from her eyes, she even pinched herself hard a few times to make sure it wasn't a dream... It wasn't. Ginny was cursing whoever had done this to an eternity of unbearable pain and a lot of other horrible things. She shook them all trying to wake them. But they were already so cold she couldn't bear to touch them. So angry at everything, she started to throw things. Pillows from the couch first, and then anything she could get her hands on leaving the room a huge disaster. It felt good to vent out any anger, sadness, depression, and anything else she was feeling at the time.
Then she noticed Harry... In the darkest corner of the room...
He was bloody, unlike the rest. He must have been tortured. Maybe by Voldemort himself, she didn't know. Ginny ran to him. She picked his body up into her lap and cradled it, crying harder than ever. Her hand was in his bloody one. Then she felt a slight squeeze, looked down, and seen that Harry was starring at her through eyes that were hardly open.
"Gi-Ginny?" he said, in a raspy whisper.
"Yes Harry. I'm here. It's ok now, you're gonna be fine, just fine." She lied as she looked into his dieing eyes. He knew that she was lying but what else was she supposed to say. As his life was fading away he said,
"I l-love yyou, Ginny..." With his last breath he said, slightly smiling (as best he could), "So much..." and with that a single tear fell from his eye and landed on Ginny's cradling arm. "No, no Harry. Don't l-leave me. I love you don't go! HARRY!"
With that she sat there hugging and cradling his body, as it grew colder in her arms. She pulled him even closer, if that were possible, and felt something in his robe pocket. She pulled out a little velvety box. Opening it, she saw a rare ruby incased between two diamonds on a platinum ring band. The ring she had seen in the jewelry store before she had started school... The ring she had loved so, so much. She also found a note with it.
Ginny,
I love you so much. I want to be with you always. You are everything to me. Without you I don't know if I could go on. I want to always be there for you. Forever and always I will be there. If you let me that is...
Virginia Weasley, Will you marry me?
Harry had gotten the ring the day after she seen it, and was going to ask Ginny to marry him on Christmas day.
She put the ring and note back where she found it and with that Ginny cried and cried, looking around a room of death she lay down next to Harry and fell asleep. Awakened by a hooded figure. She looked up trying to see who it was but could only see a shadow inside a hood.
Ginny asked, "Who are you?" A deep voice replied, "I am nobody of your concern. Actually I was sent here to kill anyone remaining, so I suppose that is of your concern." Ginny was frightened, was he really going to kill her? He, obviously this hooded figure was a 'he' because of his build and voice, noticed her scared face and smiled to himself, "However, I have decided to let you go, I am saving your life. If any of the others were to find out about this, I would be killed. So you must not let anyone know that you were ever here. Do you understand?" She just stared at him, trying to fully awaken. There was silence for several minutes and she realized that this man was a Death Eater. A Death Eater! Saving her life. 'Others' must have meant other Death Eaters.
"Do you understand?" he screamed, pointing his wand at her. "Yes, yes I do," Ginny, said with a shaky voice. He was beginning to turn and leave when she said, "Wait!"
"What, I must leave now!" he said with much venom and without turning to face her.
"I understand. But if you are saving my life, I must repay you in some way right? I mean, is it not a Wizard's Debt?" she asked, shakily.
"One day I will come to you for your repayment. Do not forget that we now have a bond, so I can easily find you, even if you are at the end of the earth itself." And with that he left.
Ginny also immediately left, to go into hiding, never to return to Hogwarts again.
--End Flashback--
There hadn't been one day in the past three years that Ginny hadn't thought about that day. About her family, Hermione included. About Harry. About that hooded Death Eater that let her live.
She finally fell into a restless sleep. "When will he turn up at my doorstep?" was her last conscious thought.
