Chapter 4
"Good morning, please hurry in. Yes quickly please."
The sixth year students walked into their first Defense Against the Dark Arts class. Professor Harven was looking ravishing in the tight, black leather dress under a floor length leather robe. Every student did a double take as they came in. She was definitely different than any other professor they had ever had, even more so than Moody or Umbridge. As they found their seats, Professor Harven stood writing on the board, using her wand to reach the high spots. She did a quick about and took a look at her class. The students, slightly intimidated for reasons they did not even know, sat perfectly still and quiet.
"Good morning class."
"Good morning, Professor Harven."
"Am I correct that this is double with Gryffindor and Slytherin?"
"Yes ma'am."
"Good. Well today I am simply going to spend the test what you already know, and try to learn all your names. Now here in the first row we have...?
"Ron Weasley ma'am."
"Hermione Granger, ma'am."
"Harry Potter, ma'am."
"Ah, and on this side?"
"Draco Malfoy."
"Vincent Crabbe, ma'am."
"Gregory Goyle, ma'am."
"Hm... well, now three Gryffindors and three Slytherins. If this becomes a problem I will separate you all, so please behave yourselves in my class. Now, I will get to you other students in a moment. Mr. Malfoy, what is the spell to disarm an opponent?
"Expelliarmus."
"Good. Um, Mr. Potter, what it the leg-locking curse?"
"Locomotor Mortis."
"Indeed. And Ms. Granger, what spell would you use to get rid of a boggart?"
"Riddikulus."
"Ok, it seems you have learned some things in the past six years, so this year I will be teaching you all some more advanced forms of magic, and hopefully by the of the year you will all be able to defend yourself without any trouble. I doubt very much that any of you can perform a corporeal Patronus?"
Only one hand came up.
"Yes, well, I knew you could, Mr. Potter. My apologies. Well, by the end of the year, you will all be able to conjure a Patronus without any trouble whatsoever. Also, we will be looking very closely at the Unforgivable Curses. I am informed that you all have actually seen the spells used, but I doubt many of you have actually tried them. I have received special permission to teach all but the killing curse to all of my sixth and seventh year students, but I may only give one lesson on them, so it will be towards the end of the year when you are more developed. Are there any questions?"
Only one hand came up.
"Yes, Ms. Granger?"
"Why is it we did not have a book this year?"
Professor Harven laughed.
"My dear girl, I think you've wasted enough money the past five years on Dark Arts books, I figured we would try a more unconventional approach this year. If you insist on reading a book, see me after class and I will give to some.
Any other questions? Well, I would like each of you to write me a short summary of what spells you know and what practice you have had with them. And please be completely honest. If you know spells you should not know, I would like to be informed, so I don't waste time teaching them. You will learn quite a lot in one year, and the less I have to repeat spells you already know, the more new spells I can teach you. Class dismissed."
The students left their class feeling quite startled. This was definitely going to be an interesting year.
