Chapter 2

Professor McGonagall stood up and tapped her glass to acquire the attention of the students. Professor Dumbledore subsequently arose.

"I have a few start of term announcements. First years please note that the forest is strictly forbidden to all students, and many of our returning students would do well to note that as well. Mr. Filch has added more to the list of items not allowed at school. Anyone interested in reading the list, it is posted in Mr. Filch's office. He has also asked me to remind you that magic is not allowed to be performed in the corridors. And for a final announcement, we have a new Defense against the Dark Arts teacher, and although she could not be here, she has asked me to tell you how excited she is about teaching this year. Also... ah, well it seems she has been able to appear. Good evening Professor Harven."

Professor Harven entered the Great Hall, wearing an outfit that would put Gilderoy Lockhart to shame. The robe was knee-length and red, open to reveal and even shorter black dress. She shuffled quickly down the center of the Great Hall, not realizing that every boy and man had their eyes on her. Her eyes were glued straight ahead on Professor Dumbledore, so much so that she failed to notice a particular teacher, the only one she hadn't met yet. She stopped in front of Professor Dumbledore, and whispered something to him. She then spun around, twirling her robe as she moved. The Hall was quiet. Professor Harven scanned the students, as if she was memorizing every face. After about a minute or so, she spoke.

"Good evening everyone. I apologize for being late, but I had some matters to attend to. I am very happy to be here this year. I will tell you now; I will not put up with students who fool around in my class. You have a lot to learn, and I plan to teach you everything that I possibly can this year. I am extremely gifted in the Dark Arts, so you are going to be taught by a competent teacher. I have been told that you have not been so fortunate with many of your past professors, but I will promise, I am fully capable. Besides Defense Against the Dark Arts, I will also be available for lessons in other subjects that you may be struggling in, any subject but Herbology. I am afraid I never did qualify in that area."

Professor Harven did another scan of the Great Hall before continuing.

"I appreciate those of you who actually listen to little speech. For the rest of you, this is your warning. I do not discriminate. I care not what house you are in, nor if you're a so-called pure blood. I also will not tolerate it from any of you. Thank you."

With a final glance over the students, she headed straight for the door. This time, there was only one pair of eyes following her, and she would soon find out who that was.
