An Unforgettable Love Story

Clytemnestra stood focused at the face of her fiancé, saturated through to her skin. If not for the rain that was pouring down from above, and the shadows of the night sky, you could have seen that he was crying.

He glared back at her. They stood outside a misty mansion, veiled in the shade of a nearby willow tree. It was at this mansion he had found her, the one place he feared to discover her at. She was terrified now. She wanted him to speak, to say something instead of looking intently at her with his piercing eyes; obscured under his thick black robes, that was all she could see.

After what felt like an hour, he murmured, "Why?" She expected the question, but was still not sure of how to reply. They both knew why she had done it. They both knew she wanted out. She had never wanted in in the first place.

His glare narrowed in on her soft, pitiful, and malnourished face. He loved her. He didn't know why. He knew no one else could see what he saw. At first sight, she seemed vile and intimidating. But she was only like that because of him, because they could not be together is she wasn't. She was softhearted and compassionate. Everything he was not.

"I do love you," she finally said.

"Then why?"

"I've been in love before. I can't do it again."

These words brought back hatred to his heart. It infuriated him to be reminded of those days when she was together with Peter. The days in his past which were never happy to him. He stared angrily at her, and watched her begin to cry, but this somehow did not fulfill him enough. He considered it almost necessary for her to suffer, to be subjected to the pain he was feeling. With every potency he had, he hit her, not once but several times, trying to give away his pain.

When his hand was wet with her blood, he began to realize what he was doing. He collapsed on the ground, burying his face into his bloody palms. She lay on the ground, conscious, but motionless. She struggled for breath, and was now as cold as ice. She fought to hold on.

He pulled his now blood-spattered face away from his hands and looked at her colorless eyes. The only warmth he felt were the fiery tears rushing down his face. He placed his wand on her forehead and muttered soundless words. Heat slid down her body, and she began to breath easier. He transfigured a blanket and covered her with it. Then, with an unimaginable pain, he stood up to leave. He knew it was over, that they would never be together the way he wanted. Nothing could change the past, cover the lies, not even magic.

She lay there, awake, and watched as he walked out of her life. She sat up, and cried out, hoping he would return. He kept walking. She lay back down, cried herself to sleep. The last thing she said before drifting off was his name, "Severus."
