- I dedicate this story to all those who inspired me to write.
September 1st had arrived once again. Harry had gathered his things and headed towards Platform 9 3/4, where he met his two best friends Hermione and Ron. "Hello Harry," Hermione began, "How was your summer?"
"Ok I guess," Harry answered, "I mean it was with the Dursleys!"
"Oh yes," Hermione said with a sarcastic laugh, "Right."
"Hello Ron," greeted Harry, "How was your summer."
"Fine, just fine," replied Ron. "What's wrong, Ron? Did anything happen?" questioned Hermione.
"No," Ron burst out, "That was the problem... absolutely nothing happed!! Oh yeah, of course Fred and George had their jokes, but it was like every single one of my siblings drained all the attention from me!"
"Ron!" exclaimed Harry, "Chill out! It couldn't have been that bad."
"Oh yeah..." Ron began before he was interrupted by Hermione, "Yes Ron, it couldn't have been that bad. I mean, you have a lot of brothers and a sister you can't be the center of attention always!"
"I know, I know..."
It seemed Hermione completely forgot about the whole Ron thing and went on into a complete, detailed story of her own summer. Harry and Ron just stared at her as if they we're paying attention, smiled and nodded. Without warning Ron suddenly cried, interrupting Hermione,
"Who's that girl with Malfoy?!"
Harry and Hermione swung the heads around in search of Malfoy, when Hermione spotted him she gasped.
"Oh, is that Sandy Basil?!"
"Who?" Ron asked confusingly.
"Yeah," started Harry, "The name sounds familiar but it doesn't go with that face!"
"That's because," Hermione began in her teacher- like voice, "She normally wears her hair in a low braid, tied with a ribbon, she also used to wear glasses, but her eyes got magically fixed before summer."
"Yeah okay, that's all great, but who is she?" Ron demanded.
"She's a Slytherin," Hermione began "I can't imagine why, she's very kind, nothing like most Slytherins. She has nothing against Gryffindors and she's not a friend of Malfoy's, I have no clue why she's with him!"
"Everyone aboard!" hollered a voice from somewhere. Harry, Hermione, and Ron cluttered onto the Hogwarts Express. When they were inside the found a compartment for themsleves and settled down.
"Since when did you talk the Slytherins anyway?" Ron asked Hermione.
"I didn't really, Sandy's quite smart, she spends an awful lot of time in the library, she had some trouble on day and asked me a question, and well... we just started talking."
"But you said she wasn't into Malfoy, then explain why she's hanging around him now," Harry cried.
"I'm not sure, she did say she didn't like him. I am still trying to figure out why she was with him. Malfoy's so mean, evil..." Before Hermione could finish Malfoy walked in, as if arriving on cue.
"Talking about me Potter are you? Well, I'm sure it was nothing bad, now was it?"
"Get a life Malfoy." Ron said coolly.
"I wouldn't be talking Weasley, it's not like..."
"Sandy!" Hermione interrupted, "May I speak to you?"
"Sure, I guess," Sandy said in a small sweet voice, "I mean I don't see why not." Hermione rushed over to her grabbed her arm and pulled her over to another compartment.
"Why are you hanging around Draco? I thought you weren't into him, I mean last year..."
"Yeah , well that was LAST year," Sandy interrupted, "This summer I moved, and it just so happened Draco is my new neighbor, and we began talking, and well..." she paused for a moment, "He's actually a good guy when you get to know him."
"Oh I see," said Hermione doubtfully. Then she thought back to when she saw Sandy with Draco on the platform. Something was wrong with the picture. Then it hit her, "Wait," she remembered aloud, "Where is Crabbe and Goyle?"
"Oh them?" Sandy said with discussed look on her face, "I don't really like them all that much. It does get annoying when you have someone looking over your shoulder all the time, wouldn't you think so? Anyway, Draco asked them to not hang around us often for me. Thank goodness."
"Okay well, I guess would should head back to the boys now," Hermione directed.
"Oh yeah, sure."
When they got back Ron was sitting like a statue on the seat mumbling strange, unusual words, while Draco and Harry looked has if they were ready to get into a fistfight, but Draco was reaching for his wand.
"DRACO!" Sandy screamed; "Stop now, please just leave him alone!" she asked politely. Draco looked up as if he was pleading for her to let him cast a spell on Harry, who had his fist up near his face. Sandy let out a long sigh,
"C'mon," she said, "Let's go." Draco glared at Harry, but than looked at Ron who was still muttering odd words and snorted with laughter. Then he followed Sandy and left. Hermione sighed, took out her wand and pointed it at Ron, "Do be careful Hermione," instructed Harry, "Look who you're talking to," she replied.
"Right. Sorry."
Hermione shook her head and pointed her wand at Ron, "Fixoridos Relspeaktos!" she said in her "know- it- all" voice. Ron stopped and shuddered for a second.
"What happened he asked?"
"I'm not totally sure, I mean I wasn't here but I believe Draco put a spell on you," Hermione explained. Ron rubbed his head; "You all right Ron?" Harry asked. "Yes," Ron answered, "I'm fine."
Before they knew it they were at Hogwarts. When they got off the train the three friends gave Hagrid a wave. Who kindly waved back. Then they headed for the castle. Then they went into the Great Hall and sat down at the Gryffindor table. Harry quickly looked around for Draco when he saw him Sandy was still close by his side. They weren't seated yet, Malfoy had his hand wrapped around Sandy's waist, who was smiling in an insulting way towards Pansy. Pansy was obviously flirting with Draco, but all of his attention was going to Sandy. When they were seated they began snuggling and whispering, what must have been sweet words, to each other. Harry peered over to Cho, wondering what it would be like to hold her, and whisper sweet words in her ear.
Interrupting Harry's thoughts came the noise of the first years, gasping in awe at the Great Hall. When they were all sorted Dumbledore stood up said a few words, of which Harry was paying no attention to, and then sat back down. Then it was time for the feast. Mountains of sandwiches, chicken, pumpkin juice, and so much more! Harry wasn't all that hungry, but he knew he'd be hungry later so he ate very little. Next the students left for the dormitories. When they got there Hermione said,
"I'm going to go upstairs to do a little more studying. We do have classes tomorrow," she reminded them. Ron looked at her as though she was nuts, he then turned his head to Harry in disbelief.
Harry shrugged and turned to the nearest chair in the Gryffindor common room. Harry sat down in the armchair across from him, "What's up?" he asked.
Harry looked up, "Nothing," he lied.
"Yeah there is!" Ron cried, "You have that look," he paused, "Harry I know something's wrong."
"Okay, well," Harry began, "Nothings really wrong, it's just-" Harry stopped.
"Just what?" Ron demanded.
"It's just Malfoy, he seems to beat me at everything, and I hoped that I could get a girlfriend before him, and obviously he beat me to it!" Harry let out a desperate sigh.
"He didn't beat you at everything," Ron broke out, "You got rid of "You- Know- Who, that was a first! Plus you also got on the Quidditch team before he did!"
Harry thought for a moment, remembering how it was really his mother who had saved him from Voldemort, or You- Know- Who. She had given her life for him, and yet he always got all the attention. Harry sighed then said, "Good night Ron, I'm going up to bed."
"Night," Ron called after him.
Harry lay in bed awake. Although he longed for sleep it didn't seem to come. Harry thought of Cho, and his mother. But Cho filled his mind the most, her hair, her eyes, everything that made her special. Slowly Harry drifted off to sleep.
Halloween had come; Harry, Ron and Hermione were happily awaiting the feast. Hagrid had the pumpkins all ready (which were at least twice the size then the ones the previous year). All the students, no matter what house, were excited. Ron was acting very peculiar, he suddenly became very shy around Hermione. Harry noticed this, he watched Ron with curiosity. Ron began to turn a bright pink every time Hermione, looked, smiled, or talked to him. Then with out warning, as they were walking in the hall, Ron blurted out, " Hermione I like you," realizing what he had just said Ron tried to cover up what he had just said, "I mean..." he stammered.
Hermione looked alarmed, but happy, Harry was just staring in disbelief, " Oh Ron," cried Hermione, " It's like you read my mind," she gasped.
Ron was now redder than a tomato, Harry looked surprisingly at Hermione then to Ron, over, and over. Hermione blushed too, though not as bright as Ron.
Harry still trying to let the events that happened sink in thought for a moments, than just walked over to class, Hermione and Ron following him, holding hands. In Charms class Hermione and Ron were sitting closer than usual, and snuggling. Harry felt worse, he still hadn't gotten the guts to ask Cho out, and Draco and Sandy were still together. Draco seemed to notice Harry's even more discomfort around him and Sandy, so naturally he tried to make Harry more miserable any time he was around. Harry tried to ignore him, but so far nothing helped.
Finally it was time for the Halloween Feast. Ron having now confessed his love to Hermione had bought her a new, very nice quill. It wasn't much but it was all Ron could afford. Harry thought it was nice of him to get Hermione something, he wished he could do the same for Cho without feeling slightly embarrassed.
The Great Hall was decorated as usual. Hagrid's pumpkins were the size of two- story houses. In the middle of the feast Ron presented Hermione with her gift, she squealed, and leaned over giving Ron a soft kiss. Ron got red. Then a second squeal, much louder than Hermione's, came from the Slytherin table. It was Sandy, Draco had given her something, but Harry was unable to tell what it was. Sandy leaned over and gave Draco a kiss, just has Hermione had done, only her kiss was more intense. Hermione, having seeing this gave Ron a kiss even more intense than Sandy's. Sandy, seeing Hermione did the same thing. It suddenly began into a kissing war type thing. Harry was having a hard time telling whether the boys were enjoying this or trying to breathe in between kisses. Professor McGonagall noticed this little fiasco going on and called the two couples to her office. Hermione got up sullenly, and headed towards McGonagall's office, Ron's hand clutched in hers.
When Hermione and Ron didn't return to the Great Hall by the time the place a desolate he went up to the Grynffindor common room. He waited in am armchair by the fire and finished up his homework. When Hermione and Ron returned Hermione had a sullen look on her face, "She gave us all detentions," Hermione informed.
"Unfortunately we have to serve them with Draco and Sandy," Ron said.
" Gosh," Hermione thought aloud, "I'm really starting to hate Sandy, she used to be such a nice girl. Now," she paused, "now she's so like Malfoy." Hermione sighed, gave Ron a quick hug and went up to bed.
"So," Harry began, "did you happen to see what Draco had given Sandy?" Harry asked hopefully.
"He gave her a ring," Ron snapped. Harry was amazed by Ron's ticked off attitude. "Oh, Harry it was beautiful too," Ron complained, "It had this stone kind of like a diamond with the letters D and S engraved in it. I'm guessing it standed for Draco and Sandy," Ron sighed, "I wish I could get Hermione something like that." With that Ron burried his face in his hands.
"Look," Harry began, "Money can't buy love. Hermione will love you even if you can't buy her the most expensive things."
"I know," Ron replied, "It's just, Malfoy's always been making fun of my family for our money problems, I figured if I got Hermione a gift and he didn't get Sandy on," He paused, " I dunno!"
"Malfoy's been bugging me too, he rubs in the fact he has a girlfriend I don't. You just have to deal with him."
"I wish I could," said Ron, "I wish I could."
The next day in Transfiguration class Professor McGonagall assigned projects. She paired up each of the students, being sure she didn't pair the couples. Ron was paired with Draco, which when McGonagall announced this both of there faces spread with grimaces. Harry was paired with Sandy, which made Draco give him a "If you dare lay a hand on her..." stare, and Hermione was paired Pansy, which made a frown appear on her face. Ron tried to avoid Draco but Hermione reminded him that this counted as about 50% of their grade. Draco and Ron met in the library in the afternoon. Hermione was going to meet Pansy the next day, and Harry planned on meeting Sandy in the evening.
Ron came back from meeting with Draco in a bad mood, which told Harry he is better off with leaving for the library. He was very early, over an hour really, but strange enough Sandy was already there. She was sitting in the library, with her hair down, it was kind of messy but her golden locks made it look good. In a weird way, that is. She was peering over her glasses, nose buried in a book. Harry walked up to her and tapped her on the shoulder, "Oh," she gasped, "Oh sorry Harry, you gave me a fright!" She sighed, pushing hair from her face, "Draco came back in a bad mood, so I figured I'd get a head start on our project and let Draco cool off."
"Yeah," Harry said, "Same thing, but with Ron, any idea what happened?"
Sandy shrugged, "No clue, but you know how Ron and Draco can not stand each other." She smiled, "Shall we get started?"
Harry sat beside her, " I didn't know you still wore glasses," he commented.
"I don't usually," she said, "Just when I read, I sometimes get a headache.
" She looked up, her golden hair fell to her face, she brushed it back and smiled. Suddenly Harry remembered where he had heard her name, before this year that is. He remembered Flying Lessons with Madam Hooch, Sandy was an amazing flyer! He remembered now, her doing all those terrific loops and spins, catching Rememballs before they crashed through windows, or left those who were on the ground's sight. It was too bad Slytherin already had a Seeker, she would be great. With these thoughts clouding his head he blurted out, "Why didn't you ever try out for Seeker?"
Sandy, thought, "Well Seeker isn't really my position. I'd rather be Chaser, I'm trying out for that position this year, there's an opening." She sounded excited.
"Well I'm sure you'll make it," Harry encouraged, "You're quite good."
"Thanks," she said quietly, "that's very kind of you." She looked up at him, as she had done before, hair falling into her face, but this time she didn't brush it away, she just smiled sweetly and looked down at her book letting her golden strands frame her face. Then Harry realized something, he was falling in love with Sandy, Draco's girl, which was not a good idea if you were Draco's enemy.
"Shall we get started then?" Sandy asked, "Oh yes of course Harry stammered. She began reading from the book entitled, Transfiguration of the World. Harry wasn't paying attention though. He had fallen in love, but what a horrible thing he had done. Falling in love with Draco's girlfriend, why did this have to happen to him? Disturbing his thought he heard Sandy's voice ask in an irritated voice,
"Hello? Are you paying any attention?" She was looking at him in a way he had never seen her look. She looked angry and upset, when normally she looked sweet and kind, even though she was Draco's girl.
"I'm sorry," Harry apologized, "I just have something else on my mind."
"Well, do you want to talk about it?"
"Not really."
"Look," she said, "I'm sorry I just got a little upset." She looked back down at the book, "It's just, grades are important to me, you know, kind of like your friend Hermione." She looked up and smiled, Harry smiled back, they looked into each other's eyes, Harry leaned in, as did Sandy, closer and closer, until their lips touched. Harry and Sandy had kissed.
Realizing what she had just done Sandy gasped, grabbed her books and said, "I have to go." She ran from the library. Harry watched her leave and put his head into his hands.
Harry walked into the Gryffindor common room. Hermione and Ron were snuggling on the couch, "What's wrong with you?" asked Hermione.
"Nothing," Harry replied.
"Yeah there is!" cried Ron, " I know there is, c'mon Harry tell us!"
"No!" hollered Harry. Ron and Hermione looked at him, bewildered, as he stormed up to the boys' dormitory.
The next morning Harry barely even looked at Ron or Hermione. Until, Hermione confronted him. "Harry," Hermione said with a demanding expression on her face, "There is obviously something wrong!" Harry looked at his feet, "Harry!" Hermione demanded, "TELL ME!!!!!!!!"
"Sorry Hermione," said Harry still looking at his shoes, "I just can't."
Hermione gave him a stern stare then turn around and stalked off. Harry was ashamed. Why had he ever kissed Sandy? He wondered what she was feeling.
It was time for the dreaded Potions class.
Sandy didn't even look at Harry, much less a glance. She was scared, what if Draco found out, he would be so disappointed! He'd probably break up with her, and she couldn't let that happen. Pretending nothing happened was the best thing to do.
Sandy was seated next to Draco- of course- he put his arm around her and brought her closer to him, she looked into his eyes and smiled. Normally they would have kissed then, but Snape had a rule- "No kissing in class." Instead she just rested her head on his shoulder, they were allowed to do that, but they were the only couple who could. Snape favored Draco, there for he favored Sandy, if Hermione dared to rest her head on Ron's shoulder, she would have had the worst possible detention.
"Well," Snape said, "Out of the kindness of my heart,"(Harry and Ron tried not to snigger at that remark), " I will allow you to study with a partner of my choice," he said, "We will have a test on this chapter in two days! Now, who shall I pair each of you with?" Draco nestled towards Sandy, figuring, since he was favored, that they would be a pair. But sadly (in Draco's opinion) that wasn't the case. "Malfoy, Granger!" Snape announced. Malfoy looked shocked, Harry and Ron snickered, until... "Potter, Basil!" Sandy put her face in her hands. She obviously didn't want to even talk to Harry! Harry sighed and walked over to Sandy's table.
"Here," Sandy said, without looking at Harry, "Read this, It'll help, believe me!" she handed a book over to him.
Harry stared at the book, This thing his HUGE! he thought, There must be a million pages! How am I supposed to finish this thing?!
Sandy didn't notice Harry's surprised stares, she was too into her own book, writing down facts, etc. Harry opened to the first page, inside he found a note:
Harry,
I'm so sorry for running from you and pretending as though nothing has happened. But you see I'm scared, I really love Draco, as hard as that may be for you to understand. I don't know what was going through my mind that night. Please don't take this the wrong way, I do like you, but I just want to be friends. Please, I beseech you, don't tell Draco about that night. I pray he never finds out. I hope you understand.
Sandy Basil
Harry clutched the note. Sandy's handwriting was beautiful, all the curls and fancy lettering. He tucked the note into his pocket, he would keep it forever he thought. Harry read the first ten pages copying important facts, has Sandy had instructed. This book was extremely boring, Harry flipped through the pages, finding another note, with a different author.
Beloved Sandy,
My heart goes to you, I can't imagine life without you. How, I ask, did I let you go all those years? Did you not want me to notice you? I hope you love me as much as I love you. Last night I had a dream, it was the future, and you were my wife! We lived in a lovely mansion with gardens, and everything, and we had four beautiful children. Two boys and two girls to be exact. I adore you and hope that dream becomes a reality. I hope you love the ring I gave you, with our initials in the diamond, but you are worth so much more than that! I love you Sandy Basil.
Draco P.S. If that bloody Potter dares to lay a hand on you, you tell me straight away! I love you!
Actually that was quite a good note for Draco, thought Harry. He wasn't afraid Sandy would tell Draco about their kiss, she loved him too much!
"Okay!" Snape snapped glancing at his watch, "Class is over now off with you!"
Draco left Hermione abruptly, leaving her with all the books she had collected. He rushed past Harry towards Sandy giving her a kiss on the cheek. She smiled has they exited class together. Hermione walked towards Harry, struggling to hold a billion books to her chest, " You okay," she asked.
"What?" Harry said still staring at the door Sandy had just exited.
"You like her don't you?" interrogated Hermione.
"What? No," replied Harry, "Of course not," he said has he forced a laugh.
"I don't believe you, you and Sandy couldn't even look at each other today. Something's up."
"Would you get off my back? Look, I really don't want to talk about it now!" Harry hollered.
"Well," said an indignant Hermione, "When you are ready I'm here."
"Fine," said Harry, irritated, "Maybe when hell freezes over I'll talk to you."
Ron had seen everything, he was waiting by the door for Hermione. He looked at Harry with a worried expression, and then turned and left with Hermione. Harry sighed, he would write a letter to Sandy, and get it to her somehow.
When Harry reached the Common Room he got a scroll and a quill and began his letter to Sandy.
Sandy,
I am also sorry about what happened that night, but I do not regret it. You see, I can't get you out of my mind. You're amazing, how I fell in love with you, Draco's girlfriend, well, I'm still trying to figure that out! I wish I could overcome my love for you. And don't worry I won't tell Draco about the other night. He would kill me if he ever found out!
Harry Then he turned the parchment over writing, Open alone!!!!!
Harry folded the letter and went off to the Owlery to get Sandy's owl Joey, and tied the note to his leg. He would deliver the letter to Sandy in the morning.
The next day Ron and Hermione as well as, Sandy and Draco where snuggling at breakfast, what else was new? Harry saw Draco pull back Sandy's glistening golden hair, and whisper something in her ear, Sandy giggled. Harry could feel himself turn green with jealousy as he stormed from the Great Hall. But something stopped him at the door. "The note!" he whispered to himself, turned around and walked in just as the owls appeared. Harry rushed to his spot at the Gryffindor table across from Ron and Hermione, when Hedwig dropped a piece of rolled parchment on his lap. Harry was confused who would be sending him mail? Harry thanked Hedwig and then unrolled the parchment.
Potter -
What do you think you're doing? Something happened between you and Sandy -- I can tell! She's been acting weird ever since you guys met in the library for you project. Just giving you a heads up Potter, whatever you did I'll find out and you'll be sorry!
Malfoy
Harry gulped. Malfoy was on his case. He had to tell Sandy, Harry didn't want to get Sandy, or himself in any trouble with Malfoy. This was going to be hard but he had to show Sandy the letter. But mail time had already occurred =, there had to be another way to get her another note. And Harry had just the plan.
Harry ran down to Hagrid's hut. " Hullo Harry!" Hagrid greeted cheerfully.
"Hey Hagrid," Harry replied," Can I ask a favor?" "
Of course Harry, now what would you like to ask?"
"Err..." Harry thought, "Could I umm... barrow a snake?"
"Alrighty, Harry, Lemme think. Now where could a snake be?" Hagrid paused, " You need a big snake or a small one?"
"Small."
"Alright, let's got to the garden." Harry followed Harry to the garden and watched him grab a small garden snake. "Thanks a lot Hagrid," Harry said holding the small snake in his hand, "Well gotta go, thanks again!" cried Harry rushing toward the castle.
Harry wrote another note to Sandy:
Sandy- Meet me at in the Library in front of the Restricted Section at 6:30 PM.
Harry
Harry folded the note, and tied it to the snake. Then, speaking in Parseltongue he gave the snake directions to the Slytherin house that Harry remembered when he and Ron disguised themselves as Crabbe and Goyel and Malfoy lead them right into the Slytherin Common Room in their second year. Then he sent the snake off hoping Sandy would get the letter.
At six thirty Harry stood alone in front of the Restricted Section on the Library, waiting. A few minutes floated by and Harry saw Sandy rushing toward him.
"Sorry I'm late," she apologized.
"That's okay," Harry smiled, "Err... I just wanted to tell you something." Harry pulled Draco's note from his pocket, and handed it to Sandy. As Sandy scanned the note her eyes sported a surprised look,
"Oh my God," she gasped, "But how? What? Oh my God." She sunk to the floor staring at the note.
"I dunno how he was able to tell, but we have to point him in a different direction."
"You're right," Sandy sighed, " Thanks for telling me Harry." She gently kissed him on the cheek. Harry looked at her in amazement; she smiled and left the library.
Harry sunk into the pillows of his bed. Sandy had kissed him and actually meant to! It wasn't like the kiss in while they were studying, although Harry had thought that was nice too, there was something about this that was different, better in a way. Sure, it was only on the cheek, but still. Smiling at these happy thoughts, which floated through his head Harry smiled and drift off to sleep.
Soon after that night Harry and Sandy were going out. One day he and Sandy were making out in front of the doors of the Great Hall when Draco came storming through. "What the hell do you think you're doing?!" he demanded, pulling Harry from Sandy and throwing him against the wall, Harry's glasses fell to the ground and Draco took the opportunity to step on them, "Bloody Potter," Draco began, "Goin' after my girl, what shit is going through your head?!" Harry stuttered "Can't think of an answer Potter?" interrogated Draco, he paused, "Huh?" he said punching Harry in the face, "What's your frickin' answer?" Harry couldn't see, now that his glasses were broken everything was just one big multicolored blur. "Huh Potter?" asked Draco punching him in the face again, "What's your answer?!" with each syllable Draco punched Harry in the stomach. By this time Harry's nose was bleeding, maybe broken he couldn't tell.
"Draco please..." began Sandy. All this time she was just standing there, and NOW of all times she was trying to help Harry?
"Shut up!" Draco demanded, "Look Sandy it's either me," he said beginning to smirk, "Draco Malfoy, or bloody Potter here," he cried carelessly pointing to Harry. "Oh Draco," began Sandy looking at him lovingly, "Of course I pick you, why I couldn't even live without you!" she confessed running toward Draco. She hugged him, intimately, and kissed him on the lips, Harry sat there, seeing a blur of Sandy's peachy color and Draco pale color next to each other, connected where Harry guessed the lips were. Harry didn't dare move he could see the blur of Draco still, still connected near the lip area of Sandy. They were standing there for about ten minutes, making out, when Draco said "Let's break, we'll miss breakfast if we don't hurry and I'm starved."
"Of course," answered Sandy sounding not at all disappointed.
As they walked into the Great Hall. At last, I'm safe! Harry thought, he began getting up when Draco's figure appeared again, "I knew I forgot something he said," sounding pleased, "Now let me tell you something Harry, ever touch Sandy, the slightest bit ever again, you'll be in major trouble." He finished that off with another punch to Harry's face.
Harry woke up in a cold sweat. Thank God it was only a dream! It seemed so real! Harry turned to his watch and glasses on the end table. He pulled his glasses on and glanced at his watch, "Midnight," he muttered to himself, "Damn." He took off his glasses and fell back to sleep.
Harry and Sandy were sharing a passionate kiss near the Slytherin house's common room, who was to come out but Draco Malfoy. "That's it bitch," he screamed, "I've had enough!"
"Draco chill!" Harry said coolly,
"Did I ask you Potter?" Draco glared pulling out his wand and casting a spell that made Harry fly, HARD, into the marble wall. At first Harry thought he would be knocked out but something like, he didn't know, padded the wall or something. But all Harry felt was a horrible headache. Harry gazed up, Sandy's back was up against a wall. "Will you miss her Potter?" asked Draco, "I couldn't kill you, or my life would soon end. But Sandy..." he said twisting his face toward her, "Ah well that's a different story, no one will miss her, except maybe you, but that doesn't matter."
Sandy was now whimpering "Please Draco, please don't," she choked out, "Please," she begged, "I love you."
"That doesn't matter any more," he said, showing no pity, "All I know is, you won't ever hurt me anymore, cause you'll be gone," he laughed raising his wand.
"No!" Sandy pleaded, "Please Draco... Oh God someone help... please!" she sobbed putting her face in her hands, "Oh God."
Harry now knew what Draco was planning to do, he was going to cast the same spell on Sandy as Voldemort casted on Harry's parents and Cedric. "Bye, bye," Draco laughed.
"NOOOOOO!!!!!!!" hollered Harry, jumping in front of Draco's wand just as the spell was casted.
Another on of those stupid dreams, scary but stupid. Harry sat up. What the heck?! He thought. Harry sighed, "I wonder if that was a warning," Harry thought aloud.
"If what was a warning?" he heard Sandy's voice ask. Harry swiftly turned his face towards the voice, and saw Sandy standing there.
"How did you get in her?" He asked.
"Oh," she laughed, "Errr... I did a bit of..." she paused, and looked up at Harry with a guilty smile, "spying."
Harry looked down at his sheets, trying to not laugh. "Why did you come then?"
"Umm... I sort of had a... errr..."
"Go on."
"Premonition."
"A what?" asked Harry, confused.
"A premonition, uhh... I can see things before they happen. I sort of sent it to you, as a warning."
"You mean what I just dreamed, you saw, and actually will happen?" Harry questioned.
" Not exactly," began Sandy, "See my premonitions can either be warnings or they could actually tell the future."
"Explain."
"Okay, err... just because my premonition said that, well, you know... doesn't mean it will happen. Basically it means... well, it's warning me and then I warned you..." she tried to explain, "What I'm trying to say is that..." she took a deep breath, "We can't be together, ever again."
"We're in the same school," Harry said, "The same building! How can we not..."
"You that's not what I mean Harry! I mean we can't be friends, and you can not fall in love with me. I know you felt the chemistry between us, Harry, I felt it too, but for me it's stronger with Draco."
Harry shifted, uneasily in his bed. "Look Harry," Sandy said walking towards him," I really wish we could be friends," she touched his cheek, "But we both know we can't." She gently kissed his cheek. "I'm sorry," she whispered slowly walking away. Harry leaned back on his bed's headboard. A tear ran down his cheek.
"Harry get up!" Harry opened his eyes, seeing a blurry view of Ron, "Harry wake up! C'mon Harry, c'mon!"
"I'm up," Harry said in a sleepy tone.
"Harry look, Sandy was in here last night, look!"
Harry quickly sat up, "What, how did you know?!" he shouted.
"What?" Ron cried, "You knew she was in here, but Harry..."
"Nothing happened," said Harry," she just said that we couldn't be friends anymore."
"Friends? Does that mean, you know, you two are something more?"
"No," sighed Harry, "It means we're something less."
Ron looked confused.
"It means we're not even friends," Harry yelled, "Like we're strangers or something."
"I don't get it."
"You don't have to," snapped Harry.
"Gee sorry," apologized Ron, "I'll go now."
Harry let out a heavy sigh, recalling everything from that night the dreams, Sandy. "Wait!" He thought aloud, replaying the second dream in his mind... "Sandy's back was up against a wall. 'Will you miss her Potter?' asked Draco, 'I couldn't kill you, or my life would soon end. But Sandy...' he said twisting his face toward her, 'Ah well that's a different story, no one will miss her, except maybe you, but that doesn't matter.' "
He saw that piece of the dream more clearly than he had ever recalled something before. Harry leapt from his bed and hurried over to get his quill and a piece of parchment.
Sandy-
I know you don't want me to talk to you anymore, but just now I was recalling your premonition and Draco had said to me "...I couldn't kill you, or my life would soon end, but Sandy, ahh, well that's a different story, no one will miss her, except maybe you, but that doesn't matter." Sandy, Draco's working for someone, I can feel it. You have to see this Sandy, you know it, maybe not for sure, but you can't shut it from your mind! Sandy, I'm worried, something's going to happen! Listen to me, you know I'm right.
Harry.
Harry hurried to the Owlery, he got Joey, once again and tied the not to his leg. "Don't give this to Sandy while Draco's around," Harry commanded. He knew Joey understood, Joey could be very smart, he was trained to understand humans. He wondered why he hadn't thought of that before, when he decided to use a snake. Joey nodded in approval to Harry's command. "Good," smiled Harry, patting Joey's head. And Harry headed toward the Great Hall for some breakfast.
When he arrived he sat beside Ron. "Sorry about my mood earlier," Ron looked Harry straight in the eye. Harry could tell he was hurt, "Look," Harry began, "This is hard for me, you were right I do like Sandy, but now she has like a restraining order against me or something."
Ron looked down at his half eaten plate, "I know you're sorry and all, but you have to understand I've been upset too."
"What happened?"
Ron took a deep breath, "Hermione broke up with me."
"What?! What happened Ron? Why didn't you tell me?"
"It just... when I saw a note from Sandy on your end table I got excited, I was hopping one of us could be happy."
Harry was getting emotional, he felt like a lovesick girl watching a movie with a romance tragedy. He sighed. "Ron, I'm sorry."
"It's okay," replied Ron forcing a smile, "I'll be alright."
Harry smiled back at him, "Yeah- you will!" They laughed.
Harry and Hermione headed toward Care of Magical Creatures, "Ron told you didn't he?" asked Hermione.
"Err... yeah, yes he did," Harry stuttered.
"That's what I thought, look Harry I didn't want to hurt him. You know I'd never..."
"Hermione, I know, it's okay."
"Oh," Hermione laughed, "Yeah, err, I just now... umm..."
"Yes?"
"I think it was the wrong thing to do!"
"Excuse me?" Harry exclaimed.
"I know it's wrong, but I just do! Arrgghh... It's so annoying. Inside I have this gut feeling... you know what I mean?"
"Yeah," Harry sighed, thinking of Sandy, "I know."
"You okay? 'Cause you definitely don't seem it."
"Yes," Harry responded, "Just a little tired, I guess."
At morning break. Harry headed up to the Gryfinndor common room. "Harry," Ron sort of half greeted, "Did you ever open that letter from Sandy?"
"What letter?" Harry asked, confused.
"The one on your end table," said Ron amazed Harry hadn't remembered the letter.
"I didn't know she left a letter," Harry thought aloud, and then quickly darted up the steps to the boys' dormitories. Harry glanced over to his bed, one his end table laid a white envelope. Harry ran towards it, and ripped the envelope open, he unfolded the letter,
Harry-
I know what you're thinking, and no. You think Draco is working for someone, and he isn't. As far as I can tell anyway. Just, try to keep your mind of it okay? You know how I said we couldn't be friends, well I think that we may be "secret friends." You know like write letters secretly to each other. Don't take this wrong Harry, I don't love you! I love Draco, you know that. Now all you have to do is believe it! There is someone out there for you. But it's not me. You're a strong wizard, and I admire you.
Please write back,
Sandy
Harry thought for a moment. How could someone so nice, like Sandy, love someone so hateful, like Draco. He couldn't understand her sometimes! But she was clear, she didn't want him involved with her or Draco at all. A small voice in the back of Harry's mind whispered "I'm afraid you'll get hurt." Harry guessed that the voice was Sandy's.
"Harry, are you okay?" Harry turned towards the sound of Ron's voice.
"Yeah."
"Well what did she say?"
"Oh, she just wants me to be careful."
"Well we better be off, Potions starts soon."
"Right, okay then, let's go."
On the way to Potions Harry and Ron passed Cho. Harry had almost completely forgotten about her. But now she had lost her effect on him. Before, whenever Harry was around Cho he would get all shy and a sensation would spread throughout his body, now he felt nothing. "Hullo... Harry," Cho stuttered.
"Hi," Harry greeted nonchalantly.
Cho looked confused, "Err..." she sort of began, "I haven't seen you around lately. Where have you been?"
"Oh, nowhere special," Harry shrugged, "Just around." Ron was now looking at Harry in astonishment. "Uh, I gotta go," Harry explained, "Class is starting soon."
"Right," sulked Cho, "See you around then."
"Yeah, bye," Harry gave a small wave, and continued to walk on.
"Harry what was that?" exclaimed Ron.
"What was what?" asked Harry confused.
"You weren't flirting with Cho at all, but she sure was flirting with you!"
"No she wasn't," Harry laughed.
"Yes- she definitely was. Don't you like her any more?"
"No," Harry replied.
"Oh then who do you like?" interrogated Ron, "Sandy?"
"Err... kinda. But she with Draco, and prefers him."
"Someone actually chose Draco over you, someone with common sense I mean?" Ron was astonished, "Maybe she doesn't have common sense, well she certainly can't if she chose Draco..." he raved on.
"Leave her alone," Harry snapped, "Just because she likes Malfoy more than me doesn't mean she doesn't have any common sense!"
"I think you're losing it too," Ron sighed, "Hello, my names Ron and this is my mad friend Harry Potter with his equally mad girlfriend Sandy Basil!" Ron thought aloud, "No that doesn't sound right."
"Shut up," Harry demanded.
"Fine, I'm just stating a point you know."
When they arrived in Snape's classroom in the dungeons they realized they were a bit early. They weren't the only ones there though. Hermione looked as though she had been there all during morning break and Malfoy and Sandy were snuggling in their seats. Harry looked at them with pure hatred. He cringed. He never actually hated anyone before, not even Sirius at first in his third year, although it seemed it, even Malfoy he never truly hated. His conscious kept him from the feeling of hate. Sandy quickly looked at him with heavy eyes. Something wasn't right. Her eyes looked as though they were being sucked into her sockets, dark circles surrounded them. Her lips weren't smiling, or frowning. Her face has no expression what so ever. Even when Draco began to kiss her neck. Harry and Sandy stared at each other for what seemed a long time, but then Sandy's eyes looked down towards the floor.
Her skin was pale, white really, worse than Draco. Her face seemed long, as though it were melting. "Sandy looks sick doesn't she?" asked Hermione.
"Umm... are you blind?" Ron inquired sarcastically.
"No, I'm not, after all Ron, who saw the trap door under Fluffy's feet first year?"
Ron rolled his eyes. "News flash Hermione. That was first year, we're not eleven anymore!"
"I'm going to see what's going on with Sandy," Hermione said closing her book and standing up.
"Wait, Hermione don't," Harry said. But it was too late, Hermione was already halfway over to where Draco and Sandy sat. Harry watched, expecting Draco to hurt Hermione in one way or another. "Hi," Hermione said to the couple putting her hand up in a sort of half wave, "Sandy may I speak to you?" Hermione asked. Draco straightened up preparing to hear what Hermione had to say, "ALONE," Hermione added.
"What ever you have to say to me you can say to Draco too," Sandy said. She sounded like she was put in a trance. Either that or she was some kind of robot Sandy. Draco smirked, and looked up at Hermione.
"Never mind then," Hermione puffed turning around abruptly. Draco smirked and shook his head.
"I don't get it!" Hermione gasped, "Sandy looks so unhealthy, you know," she shrugged, "I mean just look at her!"
"Yeah, I know what you mean, she sounded like a robot or something," Harry commented.
Ron rolled his eyes, "Stop worrying you two," he sighed, "I'm sure she's just fine!" Hermione and Harry gave him doubtful looks. "What?" Ron asked.
After Potions Harry, Ron, and Hermione sprinted to the Gryffindor Common Room. "How could you not see it Ron?" Harry asked, "Did you look at her face? I think you, Ron, is the one that's blind!"
"I am not!" Ron said defending himself.
Hermione gave him a disgusted look. "I'm finding out what's going on!" she declared.
"No, Hermione it's too dangerous," Harry said.
"Why, why is it dangerous?" Hermione questioned.
"Because, because of Draco! God only knows what he'll do to you. Hermione I'm getting a weird vibe from him. Don't try to figure out what's happening.
The next day Harry had to run to the Great Hall, for he was late. He was still tying his red and gold tie when he saw Sandy staggering into the Great Hall. She looked like an old woman, and the ring Draco had given her looked as though it would slip off any second now. "Sandy," Harry called, "Sandy are you feeling better?" Sandy slowly turned around, when she looked at Harry he saw the same tired eyes which still looked like they were being sucked in her head. Harry stared at her in astonishment. She looked at him for a brief second, her eyes seemed to roll back into her head, and she collapsed to the floor. "Sandy!" Harry shrieked he ran towards her dropping to his knees. He carefully put her head on his lap as he stroked her hair. It was not the same hair that covered Sandy's face in the library the day they first kissed. This hair was thin, much different from Sandy's usual thick hair.
"Oh no," Harry sobbed, " I got to get you to the hospital wing quick!" Harry said kissing Sandy's forehead.
"Well, well, well," Harry heard Draco's voice say, "If it isn't Potter and my girlfriend. What did you think you were going to do Potter? Save Sandy then whisk her away?" a smirk appeared on Draco's face, "I think not. Now get off her!"
Harry gingerly put Sandy's head back on the floor. Draco took out his wand. Harry backed away. "I hopped you enjoyed that last kiss Potter," Draco stared at Sandy with an evil grin, "It the last you'll ever get from her. In fact," Draco lips twisted, "It's the last she'll get from anybody."
"Draco no," Harry pleaded, "Don't do it. Come on now Draco. This is your girlfriend we're talking about here!"
Draco laughed. "You think I actually still love her? Well, I'll admit I once did, but then my master offered me something better for a girl such as her," Malfoy looked at Sandy with a smirk. Draco sighed, "Better get this over with," he said raising his wand.
"What on earth happened to her?" the two boys heard Professor Snape ask.
"Oh, she, err... fell or something, I found her here, with Potter. Professor, you might as well ask Potter what happened to her," Draco lied, "I was just going to bring her to the hospital wing."
"Very good Draco," Snape smiled, "Ten points for Slytherin," Draco grinned broadly, "As for you Potter, I will see you in my office in five minutes, and fifteen points from Gryffindor."
Harry stared at him in astonishment. "B- but Professor, I- I haven't had any breakfast yet."
"Still Potter, attacking another student? You WIILL see me in my office in five minutes."
Harry stalked off to Snape's office. He knew that Snape meant, arrive in my office in three minutes, not five. Snape only liked it when you were there early, not on time. Harry sat in an uncomfortable chair, facing Snape's desk. He thought of what he would say to Snape. He highly doubted Snape would believe the truth. Harry thought, but besides the truth he couldn't figure out anything Snape would believe. Draco was Snape's favorite student, it would take a lot to make him believe the truth.
"Potter," Snapes voice boomed, "You're in a lot of trouble this time. Attacking another student," Snape smirked, "You do know this could get you suspended, even expelled," Snape grinned broadly at the thought of no more Harry, Harry just stared at him, no facial expression at all. Snape frowned at Harry's reaction, "Now, let's see," Snape said, "What do you have to say for yourself?"
"Well, you see Professor," Harry started, "I didn't attack Sandy like you think. I was walking into the Great Hall and I saw her walking in. I greeted her and she just sort of collapsed, then when I was trying to help her Draco showed up!" Harry decided not to tell Snape about Draco and how he was going to hurt Sandy, because that would get him in even more trouble, but that didn't even help.
"You expect me to believe that Sandy just collapsed, for no reason at all?" Snape asked.
"Err... yeah that's right," Harry replied. "Ten more points from Gryffindor, for lying," Snape hissed. There was a knock on the door. "Come in," called Snape.
Dumbledore's head appeared in the doorway, "Professor Snape," said Dumbledore, "I need to see Harry for a moment."
"With all due respect Sir," Snape smiled, "But I was just giving Harry a detention for an awful action of his."
"Yes, yes Severus. I am well aware of the whole Miss Basil situation," Dumbledore explained, "That's just what I need to talk to Harry about," Snape frowned, "Oh don't worry Severus, Miss Basil will be fine. It seems she fainted, due to a low amount of strength and energy."
Snape was shocked, this could prove Harry's story to be true! "So, if you don't mind, Mr. Potter, would you please fallow me," asked Dumbledore. Harry arose and followed Dumbledore out the door.
"Now, Mr. Potter," Dumbledore instructed, "Tell me exactly what happened this morning."
"I was late for breakfast this morning," Harry began, "When I got to the doors of the Great Hall I saw Sandy staggering in. Yesterday she looked rather ill, so I asked if she felt any better. She sort of turned and looked at me, then just collapsed!" Harry wasn't sure if he should tell Dumbledore about Draco. After all Harry was still having a hard time believing what had happened.
"Anything else?" Dumbledore asked.
"No," Harry lied.
"Alright then," sighed Dumbledore, "You tell me when you're ready." And slowly Dumbledore walked away, leaving Harry stunned. Did this mean Dumbledore knew what happened?
Harry glanced at his watch, almost time for Divination. This Divination class was especially tedious. Professor Trawney had each student back in her "Fortune Room." Which was just a corner of the classroom with a curtain like wall. In the room she planned to tell each student what she foresaw in their future. Harry wondered what his cause of death would be this time. While the other students waited she had them write an essay on what the wanted their future (from present time until their death) to be like. "Weasley, Ronald," call Trawney. Ron rolled his eyes and disappeared behind the curtains. Harry thought.
'Harry Potter My Future
On my Seventh year at Hogwarts I would like to win the Quidditch Cup for the Gyfinndor House Team. After I graduate from Hogwarts'
Harry thought, he had no idea what he wanted to do after his life at Howgarts. Suddenly Ron came back. "What's fate got in store for you?" Harry asked.
Ron shrugged, "This summer I am suppose to be completely ignored by my family, and then just to get attention I commit some horrible crime. She couldn't tell what I did though," Ron sighed, "Like I'd ever commit a crime like, well... you know, a crime!" He sat down.
"Potter, Harry!" came Professor's voice.
Harry slowly arose, he didn't want his future to be told, I much rather keep it a surprise he thought. When he went into the "Fortune Room" Professor Trawney was sitting in her worn rocking chair, the crystal ball lit her face with an eerie blue glow.
"Come Harry," she said, "Sit." Harry cautiously sat down as Professor Trawney gazed in the crystal ball. "I see," she began, "I see a blond boy wandering in the woods, many trees," she went on, "There's a dark haired boy behind him, with, well, with what seems to be a ghost!" she looked closer to the ball, "Or it may be a girl's night gown," she gasped, "Oh my! The dark haired boy has fallen! Harry I believe that boy is you!" Harry looked at the ball but saw nothing but blue smoke whirling around. "Harry dear," she continued, "Harry, I warn you stay away from forest! Or else Harry you shall die!" an anxious expression covered her face, "You may go."
Harry left the "Fortune Room." When he arrived at his table Ron was full of questions. "Well," he said, "How are you going to die now?"
Harry shrugged "I don't know, she just said I'm going to die in the woods."
Ron frowned, "What, is a tree planning to topple over you or something?"
"Beats me!" Harry replied. Harry looked at his parchment, took out his quill and continued from 'After I graduate from Hogwarts..."
'I plan to move away from my Muggle family, the Dursleys. I do not know what I plan for my career, however I do wish to get married and have a family of my own. After living a long, happy life I hope I die from old age.'
Harry didn't know what else to write, he hadn't thought about the future much, he kept his mind on the present, and maybe the near future. He hadn't planned out any long-term stuff. Obviously, Lavender Brown had. She was unrolling her sixth piece of parchment. Harry wondered how a person (Hermione as an exception) could write so much!
Soon the day was almost complete. Harry started down to the Great Hall, careful not to look Snape in the eye. When he sat beside Ron he noticed Pansy and a bunch of other Slytherin girls were comforting Draco about the Sandy situation. Harry looked in disgust when Pansy's eyes met his, she stuck out her tongue, then turned to Draco and patted his back. Magically, (as it always had) a delicious feast popped up on the plates. Ron must have been hungry because he took at least three helpings of all the dishes. Pati looked at him in a weird way, Ron just shrugged. Harry didn't eat much as he thought he would have. (Having skipped breakfast, thanks to Snape). But somehow he wasn't that hungry. Harry was happy to see, when he looked up from his mashed potatoes, a healthy looking Sandy entering the Great Hall. She was restored to her natural appearance! Harry watched as Draco rushed towards her, arms stretched open. Sandy, seeing Draco, ran towards him, he grasped her in his arms. She smiled, a beautiful smile, Draco kissed her on the tip of her small, button nose, which made her smile broaden. Harry glared at her. When her gaze fell on Harry her smile disappeared, instead a worried look replaced it. Draco put his arm around Sandy's waist and gently led her to the Slytherin table. "Hey," said Hermione, "You okay. Look at Sandy, she looks so much better. Isn't that great?"
"Yeah," Harry said sarcastically, "Great."
Sandy and Draco soon left their table and headed towards their own Common Room Harry grimaced. As he headed towards bed.
For some reason Harry could not get to sleep that night. When everyone else in Gryffindor was snoring Harry was sitting on the windowsill, looking out on the Howgarts land. Harry sat there thoughtfully when something caught his eye. Slick back blonde hair was running towards the forest. Harry immediately knew who that was, Draco!! His mind drifted back to the crystal ball prediction. But as much as he hated Malfoy, his conscious made Harry go after him. Harry grabbed his indivisibility cloak from the trunk under his bed and headed down stairs. Harry thought all the way down the flights of stairs what to do, when Sandy entered his mind. He had to tell her, this was her boyfriend. The one she chose over Harry! Harry crept to the Slytherin Common Room (remembering where it was from his second year). All he had to do was wait for someone to let him in. Like that was going to happen, he thought to himself. Just them a seventh year Slytherin girl with wavy black hair approached the entrance. "Polyoffter," she whispered and she tip- toed in.
Harry waited for the entrance to close before he walked towards the entrance and whispered "Polyoffter," he had no clue what it meant, but it did work, so Harry didn't care! Harry looked around. He wasn't especially sure where the girls slept so he did a bit of exploring. After some time he discovered their sleeping quarters. He saw Sandy lying peacefully in her bed he crept over to her, "Sandy!" he said in a loud whisper. There was no reaction, "Sandy!" he said again.
She stirred a bit then answered, "What?" she asked irritated, "Who are you, what do you want?"
"Sandy, it's Harry."
"Harry?"
"Yeah, err... I need you to come with me!"
"No Harry I won't!" Sandy said stubbornly. This answer startled Harry.
"W- why not?" he questioned.
"Because, because you're just trying to get me away from Draco, and I won't do it!"
"Sandy," Harry sighed, "I'm not trying to break you two up, I need your help." Sandy sat up a bit she looked straight in his eyes. "With what?"
"Draco went into the Forbidden Forest, I have a bad feeling, something bad's going to happen!"
"Since when did you care about Draco?" she asked.
"I dunno. All I know is this is something I have to do, and I need your help."
"Alright then," agreed Sandy, "But if this is some kind of trick, I swear you'll be sorry."
"Fine, I don't care, just come on!"
Sandy got out of bed, she was wearing a white, flowy nightgown. It resembled a wedding dress in a way Harry thought. Sandy bent over to her bedside table and put on the ring that Draco gave her on Halloween, on her wedding finger. "Ready?" Harry asked. He honestly didn't know why she had to take so long, although he did think the ring was important, for some peculiar reason.
"Yeah," Sandy smiled as the hurried from the Slytherin Common Room.
Harry and Sandy made their way outside, with the aid on Harry's invisibility cloak. "This cloak's pretty cool, where did you get it?" Sandy asked him.
"It was my fathers," answered Harry, "I inherited it."
"Oh."
Harry and Sandy began to make their way in the Forbidden Forest. When something made them stop, dead in their tracks.
"Please, Master give me more time. I swear to you, you'll have it soon!"
"You failed me Mr. Malfoy. I can not afford to have you fail me again."
"Oh my God," Sandy whispered, "Draco!" Draco was standing in front of a tall, skinny man in dark robes. Harry knew exactly who this man was, with his colorless skin and red eyes. It was Lord Voldemort. Sandy took out her wand.
"Sandy no," whispered Harry, "You have no idea what this guy can do to you!"
"Yes I do," she answered, "He can kill me with a single curse!" she shrugged, "I have to save Draco."
Harry watched anxiously as Voldemort lifted his wand to kill Draco when, "Expelliarmus!" Sandy had casted the disarming spell just as Voldemort had cast his own spell. His wand went streaming out of his hand until it hit a tree and broke in two. Voldemort's spell had still effected Draco a bit, he was lying on the forest floor, unconscious. Voldemorts yellowish face flashed to Sandy's direction. His red eyes glared at her as he stumbled towards her. Sandy, immediately realizing what she was in for ran fast in the opposite direction. Harry watched, paralyzed. He wanted to run too but his legs made him stay put. Sandy was now climbing a tree, when Voldemort exclaimed in a scratchy, hallow voice, "The ring! You have the ring!" Sandy looked puzzled, she was now sitting curled up in a ball on a thick tree branch about Voldemort's head level. "You, give me the ring!" Voldemort demamded. "No!" Sandy replied fiercely. "GIVE ME THE RING!!" Voldemort hollered, his lip curled, "Sandy Basil," he began as Sandy's eyes widened, "Sandy, give me the ring, and I shall spare Draco." Sandy didn't know what to say, she wanted Draco to live, but her gut told her not to. Don't give him the ring! Harry thought looking directly at Sandy, Don't give him the ring! Sandy looked at him and smiled. Harry looked at her, when Sandy's voice whispered in his head, You have this gift too? Harry was confused, What is she talking about? he thought. Sandy's voice entered his head again, You, you can converse with peoples thoughts. I can read you mind Harry, and you can hear what I'm thinking when I let you! Harry was confused. Voldemort! He thought, he took your ring! Sandy looked startled, her eyes looked straight at Voldemort with an angry, frightened face. Voldemort was holding her precious ring high in his hand, he laughed, a shrill laugh.
"You - you give me my ring or I'll..." Sandy stopped she was upset, confused and worried.
"Or you'll what?" asked Voldemort's hollow voice.
"I'll- I'll kick you!" Sandy said stubbornly. This made Voldemort laugh hard,
"Kick me?" he asked, "Why you have nothing on your bare feet, and you think kicking is going to stop me? Ha!" Sandy's face scrunched up in anger, suddenly her right foot lashed out and hit Voldemort right under his chin. Voldemort's neck snapped back as he shrieked and let go of the ring. Sandy jumped off the tree, grabbed her ring and jammed it on her finger. Voldmort was still reacting to Sandy's kick as Sandy grabbed Draco, who was still unconscious, by the arms and dragged him into a ditch where they hid. Voldemort turned, looking for Sandy. He snarled and went over to his wand, which laid split in two. He placed his gray, clammy hands over it and muttered a few words, Harry couldn't hear nor understand. Voldemort picked up his wand, now whole, and inspected it. Then he swirled around and faced Harry. "Harry Potter," his voice scratched, "We meet again." Harry glared at him, watching his every move. "Tell me Harry, why on earth did you come here? Do you suddenly have a liking for you enemy?" Voldemort looked at him steadily, "Where is the girl? I need that ring!"
"Why Voldemort?" Harry asked, "Why do you need Sandy's ring?"
"Oh dear," said Voldemort, "I wanted to make it a surprise," he shrugged, "But since you asked Harry, this ring has astonishing powers. With that stone in my possession my powers would become stronger to the point where they would rule above all others!" With these words Harry thought it seemed Voldemort was getting larger. Sandy crept from her hiding place when Voldemort seized her wrist without warning and held her up to the sky. Voldemort took his wand, pointed it at Sandy and shouted, "Avada Kedavra!" there was a flash of green light. Harry's emotions were completely drained from his body as he saw Sandy's limp body fall down to the ground, without her ring. Voldemort was laughing, a horrid cold laugh. He was now twice the size of the mountain troll that invaded Howgarts the Halloween of Harry's first year. Harry looked up at Voldemort's face, filled with more hatred then ever. Taking out his wand Harry ran towards Voldemort.
"WAIT!" Draco's voice called, "Harry don't!" Harry looked at Draco, stunned, "Harry he'll only kill you too, now come on! I know what to do."
Harry paused, he didn't know whether to believe Draco or not but Sandy's voice came into his head, Trust him Harry, it's Draco now! Harry didn't exactly know what Sandy meant by "It's Draco now," but he followed Draco anyway.
"Help me," Draco said lifting up Sandy's body, "See those circle of stones Harry? We have to take her over there!" Harry lifted Sandy's legs overcome by the fact that Sandy was dead. The boys gently placed Sandy in the stones' circle. "Look at Voldemort," said Draco, "Look him straight in the eye." Harry did as he was told, while Draco took out his wand and slowly walked around the stone circle, tracing it, muttering dark words. An eerie greenish smoke surrounded Sandy. "Harry take her hand," Draco instructed, "And say 'Ring of Knockturn' four times."
Harry was confused he wanted to defeat Voldemort, but his worry would not escape him. He took Sandy's hand and looked straight at Voldemort. "Ring of Knockturn, Ring of Knockturn, Ring of Knockturn, Ring of Knockturn!" he shouted.
"Now stretch out your other hand," Draco whispered. Harry did so and a green smoke, similar to what surrounded Sandy, took form of the ring. "Now call for it," Draco said, "Call for the ring. Just say ring as strong as you can Harry."
Harry took a deep breath "RING!" he called and the ring dropped in his hand. "Now put it on," Draco said, eyes fixed on Voldemort. Harry jammed the ring on his finger, a bright, white light shot out from the stone, and Harry heard someone scream! He looked up the light was hitting Voldemort and he was shrinking till he was about three inches tall. Harry and Draco dived for Voldemort.
"He can't get away!" cried Draco. But Voldemort was fast for a three-inch person, he had jumped out of the way only to see Harry and Draco collide. Voldemort cackled then snapped his tiny fingers and disappeared in a puff of gray smoke. Draco pounded is fist on the ground. Harry sat there amazed, but something more was going to happen something that would shock Harry.
The ring was still on his finger when it suddenly began to jerk around. "What the?" Harry couldn't control his hand. A thin line of a pearl colored smoke flew from the ring, and rose into the air. Harry and Draco watched, astonished. The smoke took the form of Sandy's body and then slowly drifted to where she laid.
"It's her spirit," Harry told Draco. Draco looked at him, puzzled, "You mean Sandy's a ghost?"
"No, just watch."
Sandy's spirit hovered above her body for a moment then fell into it. Sandy opened her eyes and slowly sat up. She looked at Draco and smiled. "It's you," she said, "It's really you!"
Harry didn't know what she was talking about, but it seemed Draco understood, "Yeah," he said, "It's really me!" Sandy was grinning from ear to ear. She arose from the stone circle dirt, covered her white nightgown. She ran towards Draco, and hugged him tightly.
"I'm so happy!" she whispered. Draco grasped her hand. Sandy turned to Harry, "Thanks Harry," she said. She hugged him too and kissed his cheek.
"No problem," Harry sighed, tears of happiness filled his eyes as he looked at Sandy. She walked over to Draco and held his hand. Harry looked at her, speechless, when he noticed a cloud of gray smoke taking human form behind her. Sandy must have sensed this because she turned around immediately.
"Lucius," she said turning to the smoke, "How dare you!" Harry looked at the smoke, sure enough it had taken the form of Mr. Malfoy. Draco looked at his father's figure with a look that could only be hatred. Mr. Malfoy looked at Sandy sternly.
"You," he began, "You defeated the Dark Lord," he said coldly.
"Yeah," Sandy fought back, "And you Lucius," (Harry wondered why Sandy had called Mr. Malfoy by his first name), "You took control of your own son's body, devouring him until there was very little of Draco left. Why Lucius?"
"My Master demanded it."
"And you listened to your Master, put a curse on the ring to weaken me. You tried to kill your son and me! What's your problem?" Sandy shouted. Draco looked impressed.
"The life of my Master is more important then the life of my son and his good- for- nothing girlfriend."
Sandy took out her wand, "May you never be seen or heard from again," she said as an orange light blasted from her wand and began to twirl around Lucius Malfoy.
"Son!" Mr. Malfoy pleaded to Draco, "Son help me, Help your father!"
"No father." For the first time in his life Draco stood up to his father, "You've done enough already," he said. With a puff of silver smoke Lucius was gone.
"Sorry Draco," Sandy apologized, "But that was needed."
"I know," Draco forced a smile, "It's okay."
"Wait a minute," Harry cried, "I'm lost, what just happened?" Sandy sighed.
"While I was dead," she began, "Everything became clear. Voldemort killed Lucius Malfoy and had him take over Draco's body. So basically Draco wasn't Draco. There was still part of him in his own body, but with everyday his father became more and more powerful..."
"But," Harry interrupted, "Wouldn't a death like that be in the Daily Prophet?"
"No one knows Mr. Malfoy's dead," Sandy continued, "His body's still in some room in the Malfoy's mansion and Narcissa has been on what she believes is a free nine month vacation from the Daily Prophet. The ring is something I can't explain. Draco, why'd you buy my ring anyway?"
Draco shrunk back, "My father gave it to me. He said he got it at an old pawnshop. Then when he took over my body I discovered that he really got it from a Dark Arts Shop in Knockturn Alley. As it turns out the diamond is a small piece of The Stone of Knockturn."
"What's that?" Harry asked.
"Knockturn was built on a huge diamond like stone. It used to be a happy place kind of like Diagon Alley. But Voldemort became angry because there was no shopping area completely devoted to the Dark Arts. So he blew up the stone. It burst into a thousand pieces, and Knockturn Alley was formed. And that's a shopping center completely devoted to the Dark Arts," Sandy explained.
"Yeah I know Knockturns devoted to the Dark Arts, Harry said I was there once," Harry said cringing, remembering his second year. Harry, Sandy, and Draco walked back to the castle.
Dumbledore was waiting for them.
"Well done," Dumbledore congratulated them, "But I do need to know exactly what happened."
Sandy explained the whole thing while Harry and Draco added little bits here and there. Then Hermione and Ron rushed in the room they wanted to know what happened to so the trio explained it again.
After what seemed years of explaining Harry could finally go to bed. Sandy still chose Draco over him, but he understood now. Draco wasn't the mean person he thought he was, just jealous of Harry's past and popularity. Harry sighed, shut his eyes, and instantly fell asleep.
