Chapter Five: Confrontation

He couldn't stand them talking. They didn't know anything and yet the kept on whispering. So he left. He Flooed home and sat in a chair in front of the fireplace. He was staring so intently into the flames that he never even noticed Pansy enter the room, until she reached out and touched his shoulder. He looked up, startled, and tried to smile at her. But it was a fake smile. He knew it. She knew it.

"Draco, Callena sent me a post today. She said you had an incident at work. Want to talk about it?"

The way she asked this told him she already knew what had happened. She just wanted to see if he would lie or not. But he wasn't going to. He would tell her the truth. He got to his feet, pacing in front of the fireplace.

"Pansy..." he started.

"You were with Hermione Granger," she interrupted, her voice frightfully calm.

Draco's eyes widened slightly. How did she know that?

"Diana saw you going to the Mudblood's house the other day. She said you didn't leave till very late. Did you think I wouldn't find out? Did you think I was stupid? Tell me, what were you thinking?!" Her voice became shriller with each question.

"Pansy... I don't know what I was thinking."

"Did you just want a quick fuck? Was I not good enough to sleep with anymore?"

"It's not like that."

"So explain! Tell me what it is like! You slept with another woman. Then her fiancé found you two in the employee room doing who knows what! Tell me what made you do it. What made you fuck her, Draco, when I was waiting at home like a fool?!"

Tears streamed down her face, her lower lip was trembling, and her fists were clenched at her sides as her body shook in anger. He'd never seen her like this and it scared him at the same time as it filled him with immense guilt.

"I don't love you," he admitted, his eyes cast downward.

"What?! Then why in Merlin's name did you marry me?"

"My parents made me."

Pansy let out a shriek and launched a vase at him. He ducked out of the way just in time and it crashed into the wall behind him.

"You bastard! You lying, pathetic, cowardly bastard! I loved you! I still love you! And you married me because your parents made you?! Get out! Get out NOW!" she screamed; throwing whatever she could get her hands on at him. He hurried out of the mansion and down the path leading to the entry gates. He had to get as far away as possible, but he wasn't wanted anywhere. So where to go? He stopped in his tracks as a thought came into his head. With a look of determination on his face he Disapparated, hoping that at the next place he went to there wouldn't be objects flying at him. Although given the current circumstances, he wasn't so sure he could count on that.
