Make Her Love Me

You waved your hand and it was done
So let it be and there it was
A mountain, so high, it broke through, the sky
A canyon, so deep, it'll bring a man to his knees

James Potter sat in the corner of the Astronomy Tower, one late night.

I am never going to win Lily's heart, am I? he thought to himself.

James stood and kicked the wall, and regretted it. He cursed as pain coursed through his foot. He fled the Tower.

He came to the tree under which he and the fellow Marauders gathered between classes. He rested here, and hugged his knees to his chest. It was cold, and the wind made it worse. The anger and frustration were welling up inside of him, threatening to overflow.

I've seen what you can do
I've seen you make miracles and hopeless dreams come true
You've made the heavens and the stars
Everything, come on how hard
Could it be, To make her love me?

He had spent the past two months of his seventh and final year at Hogwarts as Head Boy along with Lily Evans, the one girl who was different, but no one (including the aforementioned) believed him. So, James decided to change. He stopped hexing Snape, he was on time to the meetings, and he refrained from as many pranks as possible. Still, Lily took no notice in him. Yes, they had become friends, making small talk at lunch and sometimes they found themselves arriving early to the Heads and Prefects meetings just to ask each other how they were doing, how their classes and friends were.

Tonight was the night he had decided he had enough. James took Lily aside and told her about what he was up to. First, she was speechless, then she slapped him.

"James! How could you do such a thing?!" she had shouted at him. With his face still stinging, he stood, and paced the room.

"Because I love you! Everyone knows I'm some big-shot, a player, when it comes to girls. But your different, I swear...you take my words away, I can't even think around you," James said, his throat tightening. Why doesn't she believe me?

"James, you are trying to trick me into liking you, and that just makes me sick," Lily said, hatred in her voice.

"Why don't you believe me? I have changed for you, and not just temporarily but for the good. I want to be with you, please," he said, crossing the room and pulling Lily into his arms. He was surprised when she didn't hesitate, and pulled back. She was crying.

"I hate this, James. You scare me, and I don't know what to do about it," she cried. "Goodbye, James," she whispered, and she turned to leave.

"So, that's it then, hmm? You're just going to leave me?" he said, crossing his arms in defiance.

"Yes James. That's it," she said. She slowly walked away.

I've said some things I shouldn't have
Tried everything to win her back
I'm human, I messed up, Is she gone? Are we done?
Forgiveness, another chance, that's all I want, it's in your hands

And that was it. She didn't come back down, fall into his arms and express her love for him. That was it. She just walked away. So, he fled as far from there as he could. Granted, James couldn't go very far, but there were a few places where the James Potter knew of.

"Why won't she see what I've done? I've changed for her," James mumbled. He laid down, gazing at the dark, clouded sky. There were some rumbles of thunder in the distance.

Gently, rain began to fall. Lightening and thunder now flashed and sounded fiercely. It mirrored the emotions in James' heart.

"I can't take it anymore!" James yelled.

"I've seen what you can do, I've seen you make miracles and hopeless dreams come true. You've made the heavens and the stars, everything! Come on, how hard could it be to make her love me?" James bellowed at the angry, raining sky. He knew he was talking to someone important when he heard the sweetest voice behind him.

"James, I do love you."

"Lily!" He smiled.

They ran to each other, and for the first time, their lips met. It was a sweet, passionate kiss that warmed the two from the inside out.

"I'm so glad I found you, James. I was going nuts in the castle trying to find you," Lily said breathlessly when they broke apart.

"I knew I made a mistake as soon as I reached my bed. I love you, James Potter, with all my heart." Lily smiled. Her face was a mix of tears and raindrops.

"I love you too, Lily. Please forgive me for what I did?" James asked. He bent down again, and pulled Lily in closer to kiss her again. Quickly, she deepened the kiss, and James took that as a 'yes'.
