Chapter One

James Potter sat in his chair, looking out his window at the dull, magicless world. As muggle children frolicked about, James couldn't help but wonder about one of his own children, Harry Potter.

"James, honey, dinner is ready," called Lily Potter from the kitchen.

"C'mon, dad," called James' youngest child, Henry.

"I'm not hungry," replied James. He couldn't bear to eat while knowing that on that date, years ago, he had to leave behind his only son.

Everyone thought that Lily and James Potter were dead, killed by Voldemort, the dark lord. However, this was far from the truth. The truth was that the infamous Potters were still alive, if you could call it that.

Years ago, when he-who-must-not-be-named tried to murder the Potters, he went after Harry, first. As everyone knows, Harry Potter was the first of Voldemort's victims to survive. What most people don't know, is what happened later that night. Lily and James Potter were forced to go into hiding. The conversation James had with Dumbledore that night still echoed in his head.

"Twill be in the boy's best interest if you leave him behind, James, you know that," Dumbldore sadly explained.

"Yes, I know, professor, but-" James was unable to finish his sentence without breaking into sobs. "Lily and I will leave before dawn," James brought himself to say. "We will disguise ourselves as muggles... for Harry's sake."

Lily, James, and Dumbledore all knew that Lord Voldemort's attack against Harry was not personal. He only attacked Harry to seek his revenge against Harry's parents. The frightened couple hoped that by becoming known as dead by the wizarding world, and lost to Lord Voldemort, the dark lord would leave Harry alone. The disappearance of Lily and James Potter would become to be the best-kept secret in wizard history.

After making the most difficult decision of their lives, Lily and James Potter left Harry behind, and went to live their new lives disguised as muggles. This was not easy for the distraught couple. Aside from having to leave their only son behind, they would have to give up magic.

Chapter Two

Meanwhile, at Hogwarts, Harry Potter and his friends began their fifth year. Harry, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley talked as they headed to their first class, Potions.

"Maybe we'll have a simple, normal year for once," hoped Harry.

"Somehow, I doubt that," replied Hermione.

"I dunno, Hermione. A lot of weird things have happened the past four years. I mean, what else could happen? Only so many things can happen to a person... I think," retorted Ron.

Harry was actually in for his most eventful and exciting year yet.

"Ow!" exclaimed Harry.

"What is it Harry?" Hermione asked concernedly.

"It's my scar. It burns again," answered Harry.

"Uh-oh. That's never a good thing," said Ron.

"No, so far it always has been a warning," said Harry, now anxious.

For the rest of the walk to Potions, the trio was silent. They did not dare to talk or even think about what could happen if Harry's scar was hurting this early in the year.
