Chapter 8

Draco watched Ginny Weasley from the corner of his eye, poking the food before him absent-mindedly with his fork, while trying to ignore the death glares aimed at him from his fellow Slytherins. The Slytherins no longer sat around him and, with their accusing and condemning eyes, forced him to sit at the end of the table by himself. Not that he cared. Or minded. He enjoyed the forced solitude, even if he had not asked for it. The only problem was that his former friends seemed to have the habit of shooting evil, threatening looks at him It was slightly interesting at first, to see the way Crabbe tried to narrow his eyes, and ended up squinting his eyes at him in a way that made him looked like he was shortsighted. It was also amusing to see the way Pansy Parkinson had stuck up her nose and sniffed as if she had smelt something bad, when Draco had glanced at her. He remembered when Pansy used to look at him adoringly; clung onto his arms, and sang endless praises to him. Not that she ever really liked him; she just liked the power his father had, and the power he allegedly had because of his father. Although, Draco must admit that he enjoyed the flattery while it lasted. Who wouldn't? Draco thought to himself, stopping his food poking to take a sip of juice from the goblet before him. He glanced over at his fellow Slytherins who, as usual, were glaring at him. This is getting very old. Don't they have anything better to do than staring at me all day long? It was quite annoying, and bothersome at times. Especially when he was trying to watch a certain female redhead Gryfinddor.

Her fiery red hair moved in small, gentle waves as she talked excitedly to her friends, her brown eyes warm with laughter. Her eyes shone and her lips curled up in a smile. She looked so unbelievably cheerful that Draco almost wondered if he had imagined the scene when he had watched her weep painfully to herself just a few days ago. It was almost as if nothing had ever happened, and that she had always been this happy and cheery everyday. The scene came back to him once more, and he felt as if someone had tugged at his heart. Looking at Ginny, Draco felt the sudden urge to stroke her long, red hair.

'What are you looking at?' said a gentle, feminine voice.

'Go away, Blaise.'

Blaise Zabini tossed her dark black hair, and looked at Draco from light blue eyes. There was always something she liked about Draco Malfoy. Most of the Slytherin girls who used to worship him loved his silvery-blonde hair and silvery-grey eyes. He always seemed to be cloaked in silver. The green and silver clasp that held his school robes together, the silver necklace with a miniature dragon around his pale neck, the silver end of his dark mahogany wand. But the same features that captivated many others, females and males alike, never captivated Blaise. She had no love for fair hair or fair eyes. Instead, she was trapped by the way Draco seemed to be alone even when surrounded by many. She loved the mysteriousness that shrouded his eyes now and then, the cool air he held. He was not extraordinarily handsome or good-looking, or even beautiful. Blaise held no love for beautiful things, unlike many girls her age. She admired darkness, mysteriousness, and secrecy. Draco Malfoy was all three. And Blaise wanted to unleash the darkness and mystery within him.

'Go away, Blaise,' Draco repeated in an indifferent tone. 'Don't you have a reputation to look after?'

'Oh, Draco, who cares about reputation?' Blaise drawled, her seductive tone very different to Draco's cold drawl. 'Besides, I like you.'

Draco turned to stared at the girl, undaunted by her fair beauty. 'Problem is, I don't like you. Why do you insist on torturing me with your presence?'

Blaise put her porcelain white arms around him, smiling at him with her cold, cruel smile. Seeing the disgusted look on his face, she leaned towards him and put her head on his shoulder.

'I'm the most beautiful girl in Slytherin. How can you call my presence a torture?' Blaise pouted, pretending to be hurt by his words.

Draco smirked. 'Yes, you are the most beautiful girl in Slytherin, but not in Hogwarts.'

Blaise was not offended. 'Oh, really? Who do you think is the most beautiful girl in this school?'

Involuntarily, Draco looked at the Gryfinddor table, where a cheery redhead female laughed with her friends. He quickly looked away, but Blaise caught him glancing across at Ginny Weasley. Ginny Weasley, huh? If she's the one you want, she's the one you'll get. Dear, dear Draco, you can't push me away.

'What a two-timing weasel,' thought Ginny as she took a very angry bite from her clearly innocent toast.

She had been watching Draco Malfoy and Blaise Zabini flirting around; all the while pretending to laugh at Ron's jokes, although she had no idea what Ron was on about. He must have been absolutely pleased. Usually, Ginny would never laugh at any of Ron's jokes.

'Look at Zabini,' huffed Ginny, taking another bite from her toast. 'She is such a flirt.'

'I think she's pretty,' said Colin, smiling dreamily as he stared at Blaise.

Ginny turned towards her friend, and gave Colin a deadly glare. 'She's a Slytherin, Colin.'

'I know... Anyway, what are you so mad about?' said Colin, tearing his eyes from Blaise to look at Ginny. 'It's just Malfoy.'

'That's why it's so disgusting. Who cares about Blaise Zabini, anyway? Not a word, Colin.' Ginny shot her friend a glare. 'It's Malfoy that I dislike. Look at him. Gloating. What a two-timing jerk.'

'Two-timing? Ooh, I hear a juicy gossip!' exclaimed Parvati Patil suddenly. 'Who's Malfoy going out with? Tell me everything, Ginny!'

'How would I know?'

'But you said two-timing. That means he's already with someone,' said Lavender Brown.

'Well... I'm just...' Ginny was getting flustered. Her and her big mouth! 'Um, wasn't he with Pansy Parkinson before? And now, already, he's with Blaise Zabini.'

'Oh,' said both Parvati and Lavender in unison, disappointed.

Ginny let out a sigh of relief. She should learn to keep her big mouth shut, especially in front of Parvati and Lavender.

Ginny... So you like Draco Malfoy, don't you?

No, she doesn't! Ginny would never -

Shut up! You're my servant now. You will do my bidding.

I'll escape from you. My friends would find out that something's different about me.

Your friends don't care about you, you stupid boy.

That's not true!

Think all you want. Try to escape. You can't. Right, where was I? Oh, Malfoy. Now that we know that little Ginny Weasley likes him, we know what to do, don't we?

Don't hurt her, please! Don't hurt Ginny!

Oh, I won't hurt her, boy. I know how much you like her. I'm going to hurt...him.

Author notes: Like my Blaise? Like this chapter? I just thought I’d better make the story a little darker. No point being under The Dark Arts, when it’s not even a little dark, eh?
