Chapter 11: A Lover's Talk

"So what did he say?" Hermione asked Ron the next morning. She was sitting at a table in the common room. Ron had just dragged himself down the stairs and Hermione had been up for hours doing homework.

"Homework on Saturday morning, 'Mione?" he groaned, sitting next to her and lying his head down on the table.

"Yes. I couldn't sleep. This little person inside insisted on doing aerobics or something at five o'clock this morning," she replied. She started to sigh but it was interrupted by a long yawn.

He looked up at her and smiled. He thought she looked beautiful despite her lack of sleep. He pushed her hair behind her ear and she smiled at him. He leaned up and gently kissed her.

"Is it moving now?" he asked, waking up a little bit after the kiss.

"Yes,' she said, smiling at his interest. She was constantly worried about his bitterness toward the baby. Would he hate it because it was Harry's child?

"Can I?" he asked, proceeding to make some complicated, indiscernible gesture. After a few seconds, Hermione figured out what he was trying to ask.

"Yes, you can feel it. Here, feel right here," she said, taking his hand into hers and gently placing it on her stomach.

"Wow, there's a real little person in there. That is so amazing, Hermione. I just wish it could have been mine. But I was thinking. I will love the baby because it is a part of you, I've already said that. But once I get over it, it's also a part of my best friend in the world. So really it's a mixture of my two favorite people in the world," he said, smiling at her and linking his fingers in hers.

"Yes, and it will be raised by you, so it will be a mixture of all three!" she said, kissing him. "So, what did he say?"

He smiled, "I knew we'd get back to that eventually."

"Well, of course, I didn't send you just because I felt like it, silly."

"What a one-track mind you have, my love."

"Hey, you managed to distract me this long, that has to be a record," she said, reaching over and playing with his hair. "So?"

"Well, sweetheart, he said that he was certain that he would go back to Harry someday, someday soon that is. He said that his reserve is breaking. It was sweet in a completely fairy fashion. He said that Harry keeps looking at him with a longing, remorseful look or something like that. He loves him, Hermione. I don't think I truly understood that until last night. I really always thought of it as some lusty, hormonal thing that Harry would get over. But when I saw the look in Draco's eyes last night, I knew it was for real. It was amazing, Hermione," he said, smiling at her.

"I know. I've seen the same thing talking to Harry. But I'm glad you've realized it. Now, maybe it will help you to get over your fear and to accept your best friend's happiness, whatever it may be," she said, standing up and going over to him. She kissed him on the forehead and started up the stairs.

"Where are you going?" he asked, looking up the stairs behind her.

"To put on some real clothes, I don't want to be in my pajamas when everyone comes downstairs. Besides don't you have to finish packing?" she said with a knowing grin. She knew he always waited until the last moment to pack his things.

"Umm, yeah. But don't you have to pack to? Aren't you going home? And of course you're coming over for awhile, eh?" he said with an expectant, hopeful smile.

"No, sweetie, your mum and my parents both need some time to cool off. I'll be spending Christmas holidays here. I know you wanted me to come over, but I think this is for the best," she said, walking back down and hugging him. "I love you, though."

"I know. I love you, too. I wish we could spend Christmas together, but I guess we'll have plenty of time for that in the future won't we?" he said, smiling as she started up the stairs again. "Oh and by the way, when I come back from break, I plan on talking to Harry."

"What?!" she squealed, stopping dead in her tracks. She ran back down and looked up into Ron's eyes. "Are you serious?" she asked with a look that pleaded for a positive response.

"Yes, I do. I hate to admit it, but like he said everyone makes mistakes. You're right too, I can't be mad at him when I've been running around with you so openly. He's my best friend and I love him. I hate that this happened and I know that I won't be able to fully trust him for a very long time, but I've been a prat long enough. I can't let him live in his solitary torture any longer. I hope for both of their sakes, Draco's reserve crumbles soon."

"Oh, Ron! I love you so much! That has to be the most mature thing I've ever heard you say," she said. She jumped up into his arms and kissed him passionately. After a few seconds, she pulled away. "Now, you need to go finish packing."

"God, Hermione! You're really confusing me. One minute you give me passionate kisses and the next you sound like my mum. Oiy! It's crazy, girls are crazy."

"Excuse me?" she said, raising her eyebrow in indignation.

"But I love you anyway," he said, kissing her gently on the cheek and going up his set of stairs.

She stood there watching him go up the stairs and smiled at him. She was glad he was starting to be so mature about the whole situation. She knew it was hard on him, but she was happy he was accepting things. She hated that she had made this mistake; she loved Ron with everything she had.

Author notes: Hey hope you enjoyed it. I'll be tying it up pretty soon. Hope to get it out sooner that this time, but I've got a 10 page paper to write, sooo it might take a little bit of time. Okay well laters!!
