Chapter 24

The Final Battle

"Yes?" I asked, answering the door.

"Harry, it's time."

I stared at Ron in shock. "You...you can't be serious," I said in disbelief. "He's attacked?"

Ron nodded. "Get Draco and Lita, we've got to hurry."

I shook my head. "Lita's in America," I said, feeling disoriented.

"Wrong," said a voice from behind me. "I was in America. You've got a daughter that's got a strong power of premonition. Where's Draco?"

"You two go on," I said, finally waking up from my stupor. "I'll get Draco and meet you there. Where?"

"Hogwarts."

I felt a wave of shock run over me. Hogwarts. How the hell did Voldemort become so bold?

*****

Ron and I Apparated just outside of Hogwarts and ran in the direction of the battle. I looked around in shock at the chaos that surrounded me. There were duels going on everywhere I looked. I could see flashes of green from every direction. I turned around to look at Ron. He had his wand pointed to me.

"What?" I gasped.

"Duck," he ordered.

I did what I was told and Ron shouted a curse. I flinched, expecting to be hit with it, but it went over my head. I heard a cry of pain from behind me. Ron helped me up and I turned around to see a fallen Death Eater.

"Thanks," I breathed.

"Merlin," I heard someone breathe. I turned and saw Harry and Draco. Without a word, we all walked forward into battle.

Please let me make it through this so I can see my little girl again....

*****

I rushed through the crowd as quickly as I could, searching for Voldemort. Finally I found him torturing a student.

"VOLDEMORT!" I shouted.

He looked up from his victim and smiled--it wasn't really a smile, in fact it made his face look grotesque and more horrible than before if it's actually possible.

"Harry Potter," he hissed in that way that he does every time he sees me. I felt a chill run down my spine.

"Let him go," I ordered, referring to the student. "Your fight is with me."

Voldemort shrugged and lifted his wand. The student fell limp and I wondered briefly if he was dead or not.

"Let's dance," Voldemort hissed. "Do you remember what I taught you?" he asked. "Are you going to bow to death?"

"I'm not the one who's going to die," I said strongly.

*****

I looked up and saw Harry and Voldemort dueling. A cage of golden light surrounded them. Harry looked as though he were struggling.

[Life,] I said. [Use life to defeat death.]

[How?] I heard his voice ask.

[Trust yourself.]

*****

Our wands joined again. I had been concentrating as hard as I could on keeping the joint out of my wand that I nearly jumped when I heard Lita's voice in my head.

[Life,] she had said. [Use life to defeat death.]

I suddenly saw a green light in my veins. It was different from the light of the Killing Curse. It was warmer, healthy, more like life, not death. I concentrated on that light and forced it through my wand.

*****

The light coming from the tip of Harry's wand became the same green as his eyes. The gold of the cage surrounding them became green. The joint holding them together was forced into Voldemort's wand.

The wand exploded and the light enveloped Voldemort. The cage surrounded him, leaving Harry to watch as his magic took over. The cage collapsed on Voldemort and all that could be heard was his high-pitched scream. A white light shot through the green before it all exploded, leaving Harry to dodge in the nick of time.

Draco and I ran to Harry, praying that he was alive.

We reached him at the same time and rolled him onto his back.

"Harry?" we both asked.

Harry opened his eyes and propped himself up on his elbows to see if Voldemort still stood or not.

He looked at me in awe. "How did you know?" he asked. "You said.... What did I do?"

"Elvin magic," I said softly. "You used the magic I gave you when I Bound myself to you."

"You did what?" Draco demanded.

"Relax," I said. "He didn't have to return the sentiment."

"He better not have, because I swear, if he did, I'm going to kill you."

"No you won't," I said at the same time as Harry.

Harry's face changed and he looked up at me confused. "What's different?" he asked.

I hesitated. "I've got to get back to Lami," I said, avoiding the subject. "Congratulations on winning the war."

I stood up quickly and began to walk towards the gates to Apparate back to my father's house, but Harry called out to me.

"What's different?" he demanded.

I stopped walking and turned to face him. He walked over to me, leaving Draco sitting on the grass where he had fallen.

I looked at Draco and then at Harry. "I'm pregnant," I said. "It's yours."

Harry closed his eyes and I felt the despair wash over me. "I told Draco," he said softly. "About that night."

"Then you can tell him about this too," I said. "I have to go back to Lami," I said again. "She was terrified when I left, I doubt that she's calmed down any."

"Come back," he said softly. "Come home."

I sighed. "Won't Draco have a problem with that?" I asked. "All things considered?"

Harry shook his head. "I don't care if he has a problem with it," he said. "If he's got a problem, then I'm going to pack my things and find a new place where I can live with you and the kids."

I smiled sadly. "You'd do that?" I asked.

He nodded. "I never stopped loving you," he confessed.

"I'll be home soon," I said softly. "But I'm going to stay with my father for a little while longer."

Harry nodded. "Don't stay away too long," he said softly.

I kissed his cheek and walked away, my heart aching for him.

*****

I watched her go, not knowing what to do. Draco walked up to me and draped his arm across my shoulders. "What did she say?" he asked. I sighed heavily, wondering how to tell him that my one night of not thinking had lasting consequences.

"She's pregnant," I said softly, deciding that it was just easier to get it out rather than beat around the bush.

His arm immediately left me. I had cut deep, I knew that.

"It's yours, isn't it?" he asked bitterly.

I nodded silently.

I heard his steps on the gravel take him away. I sighed again, knowing that I probably shouldn't go home tonight.

"Harry?"

I turned to see Hermione walking towards me.

"Hey," I said.

"You were amazing," she said. "What spell did you use?"

I shook my head. "I didn't," I said. "That was Elvin magic. That's the stuff Lita's capable of."

Hermione shook her head. "No she's not," she said. I looked at her confused. "Lita doesn't accept her elf side," she explained. "Until she does, she's not much more powerful than the average witch or wizard. Even she knows that."

"How do you?" I asked.

"Alex," she said simply. "He dated Lita back in America. I heard about Jeff, by the way," she said. "Give Lita my condolences."

I chuckled. "How did you hear?" I asked.

"Ron," she said.

"Where did Ron hear it from?"

"Draco, I think," she answered. "He said that he went over to see you and Draco said that you were helping Lita move into the manor. He asked why and Draco said that he'd committed suicide. He didn't say why though."

"She left him," I said. "On your wedding day."
