~Chapter 2~

At First Sight

I arrived at the Leaky Cauldron safely a week later. Tom, the innkeeper gave me room eleven and told me I could get everything I needed at Diagon Alley. He also said something about the other foreign exchange student already arriving.

Not dwelling on the identity of this person, I made my way into the magical street. I needed my robes and other supplies.

He was standing outside of Quality Quidditch Supplies.

He didn't look like his picture from the Triwizard Tournament. His hair was now short with blood red tips; he had many facial piercings, and looked just like any normal American Punk. He was wearing baggy black pants, combat boots, and a t-shirt that said 'Yes, in fact, the world does revolve around me.' In a way that's actually true. It was a good look for him.

The two next to him must be his best friends.

The girl on his left, with the brown wavy hair and tight black leather pants and red halter-top, must be Hermione Granger. She was rumored to be Harry's girlfriend, and later to be dating both Harry and Victor Krum, the Quidditch star. I wonder if the rumors ever held any truth.

As for the tall lengthy red headed boy on his right, I don't have the slightest clue as to who he is. Must be Harry's best friend. He was definitely wizard-born and raised though. He wore a striped polo shirt with blue jeans. He didn't really fit in with what Harry and Hermione were wearing.

I winced as a loud bang diverted my attention. Loud noises always hurt my sensitive ears.

I turned and saw a few people screaming. I winced again. Damn, don't theses people know a joke when they see one? All it is is some kid who got hit with a very sloppy Fungi-Face Curse. Guess it's not so popular here in England. Everyone uses it in America. I personally am an expert at the curse; having used it countless times myself.

The order of the fungi was chaotic. It was most definitely an amateur job.

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Harry and his friends putting their wands away. Had they perhaps been expecting a Death Eater attack? That doesn't seem logical. Why would they attack in the middle of a crowded street in the middle of the day?

I looked back to the poor soul who was being treated with a very severe case of public humiliation. Perhaps I should help; I do know the counter-curse after all.

Fungi-Face walked unsteadily towards me. The curse throws off your balance harshly. It's like being so dizzy you fell like you're about to hurl. Not a fun feeling.

He nearly walked into me, and I asked him if he needed help. His answer was barely understandable, as he had a mushroom growing on his upper lip. I fought laughter as I preformed the counter curse. The various plants fell to the cobbled street at our feet and I got my first really good look at him.

He had platinum blond hair that actually looked like it was natural, not the fake dye jobs I'm used to seeing, and he had gray eyes. I've never seen anyone with gray eyes before. But then again, they weren't all gray. There were blue flecks here and there that my elven eyes picked up instantly. He seemed aristocratic, so forgive my confusion as to why this display of public humiliation has taken place. Maybe people with money are treated differently here.

"Draco Malfoy," he said sticking out his hand, not even thanking me. How rude.

"Lita," I answered shaking it.

"I've never seen you before, are you from around here?"

"No. I'm from Utah actually."

"Utah?"

"The United States."

"Oh! I've never been there. Are you a foreign exchange student then?"

"Yeah."

I became aware that a few were watching us. Harry and friends were among the spectators. I became very self-conscious. Time to leave. Sorry Fungi-Face.

I Apparated into the nearest shop, Flourish and Blotts, and looked around. It was small and cramped with books everywhere. A small stout witch walked over to me.

"May I help you, dear?" she asked. Her voice was high and strained. My ears were throbbing from the pain. Why does this country have to be so loud?

I handed her my booklist. Her eyes traveled down the list and she disappeared. I looked around at the other books as a bell sounded. I looked at the door and saw Hermione walk in followed by Harry and his other friend.

My heart started to race and I went back to my looking around. There were a wide variety of books and I wanted to read so many of them. I found a book on elves and eagerly pulled it from the shelf. I opened the book and read until a shadow passed over the pages. I looked up, and found the eyes of one Harry Potter staring at me. I felt my jaw slacken, but I couldn't help myself. I was in awe.
~*~*~*~

She mesmerized me. She had long curly hair and deep blue sapphire eyes. Her shirt had long sleeves that flared from the elbows and left her abdomen bare--she had her bellybutton pierced. A bullet belt held up her baggy pants and she had a spiked choker.

"Hello," I finally said.

"Hi," she replied in and American accent.

"You're an American?"

"Obviously," she answered. "I'm a foreign exchange student."

"Really?" I asked surprised.

She nodded. I looked down at the book in her hands. From the looks of it, it was something about elves.

She closed the book in a hurry and hid it behind her back. I looked back up at her face. "What's that?" I asked.

"Nothing," she answered quickly. "Just some...nevermind, it's nothing."

I nodded slowly, not believing her.

"What's your name?" I asked, changing the subject.

"Call me Lita. Everyone does."

"All right, Call-Me-Lita," I joked. She laughed slightly.

"What's it like?" she asked me.

"What's what like?"

"Being you."

"Oh. Erm...how much time do you have?"

"I'm sorry, that was rude of me. I shouldn't have said that. I'll see you at school maybe?"

"Yes, you will." I nodded. She walked over to the counter and paid for her books before looking back at me and walking out.

Ron and Hermione walked over to me. "What was that about?" Ron asked.

"She's one of the foreign exchange students. Name's Lita."

"Lita?" Hermione asked. "Wonder what her real name is."
