Cry
Mandy Moore
I'll always remember
It was late afternoon
It lasted forever
And ended so soon
It was late in the afternoon on September 28, 1997 and Hermione Granger headed to her favorite spot in the back of the library with her mind on her Transfiguration essay.
But when she turned the corner, she saw something she never expected to see in her entire life.
You were all by yourself
Staring up at a dark gray sky
And I was changed
Draco Malfoy was sitting at her table, a letter in front of him, and he was crying with his head in his arms.
"What's wrong," she asked cautiously.
Malfoy jumped and looked around. His eyes widened when he saw her.
"Get the fuck away from me, Granger," he ordered shakily.
In places no one would find
All your feelings so deep inside
It was then that I realized
That forever was in your eyes
The moment I saw you cry
Thunder crashed outside as Hermione stepped closer to the table. When Malfoy didn't say anything more, she sat across from him.
"What's wrong," she asked again getting more concerned by the second. Why wasn't he yelling at her?
"Why the fuck do you care?" he asked bitterly. "For over six years we've hated each other. Why should I tell you?"
it was late in September
And I'd seen you before
You were always the cold one
But I was never that sure
"I've never hated you," she revealed softly. "Not once in all these years. Even after all of those things you've called me and said about me. I've never hated you, and I'm not about to start."
Draco was shocked. If anyone deserved to hate him, she sure as hell did. "Why?" he asked.
"I don't know you," she answered simply. "How can I hate what I don't know?"
"As shocked as I am, Granger, don't expect me to tell you. Like you said, you don't know me; therefore, you have no reason to know."
You were all by yourself
Staring up at a dark gray sky
And I was changed
"You need to tell someone. I won't tell a soul, I swear. You can trust me, even if I am Muggle born."
Draco winced. "...Sorry," he finally managed. Saying the one word had taken a huge weight off of his shoulders, but did absolutely nothing for the guilt he now had. "You really want to know?"
"Do you really want to be forgiven?"
"Is it that easy?"
"I forgave you years ago."

Draco pointed to the letter. Still crying, he told her everything. His father murdered his mother because he, Draco Malfoy, refused to become a Death Eater. His mother had been the only person on the planet he could trust, that he loved. His father warned him that this may happen, Draco didn't believe him.
Now his mother was dead, and it was all his fault. He killed his mother, however indirectly....
Hermione was in tears by the time he'd finished.
I wanted to hold you
I wanted to make it go away
I wanted to know you
I wanted to make your everything, all right...
Hermione stood and circled the table. When she reached Draco's side, she pulled him into a hug. He sobbed on her shoulder, unable to hold it in any longer. Only his mother had ever hugged him. And only once...
I'll always remember
It was late afternoon
Hermione fell in love right there in the library. She'd never known anyone-any guy-to cry, not even Harry, whom she'd been waiting to break down.
But of course, tears weren't her only reasons for loving him. It was his need, his sudden trust for her.
He looked up at her, baby blue eyes glassy from the tears he had just shed.

Hermione wiped away the rest of his tears. "I'm so sorry, Draco," she whispered.
"Thank you, Hermione."
