My Last Breath

Evanescence

It was dark. Hermione couldn't see anything, save Harry. He was holding on to her, begging her not to give up. She was smart, she knew these wounds were fatal. She didn't know how long she could hold on...didn't know how much longer she had to live....
Hold on to me love
You know I can't stay long
All I wanted to say was I love you and I'm not afraid
Can you hear me?
Can you feel me in your arms?

The battle was still raging around them. Screams tore at the night. Light flashed, drowning out the moon. She was wounded. Warm and wet blood poured from her side onto the once-green grass below her. And still, Harry held onto her.

Her body started to go numb, she couldn't even feel him. The end was near.

"H-Harry," she gasped.

"Yes," he asked holding her tighter still.

"I-I love you Harry."

"Don't give up, Love. Don't you dare give up. Hold on a little longer."

She heard pain in his voice. He knew he was loosing her. She couldn't bare the pain she was sure to cause him with her death.

Holding my last breath
Safe inside myself
Are all my thoughts of you
Sweet raptured light it ends here tonight

She held her breath as the pain in her neck, chest, and abdomen lessened further. Never a good sign, she knew. Pain meant you were still alive, meant you still had a chance. It made her think of all the things she would miss. Her friends, her daughter Ellie, and Harry, her loving husband of eight years.
I'll miss the winter
A world of fragile things
Look for me in the white forest
Hiding in a hollow tree (come find me)
I know you hear me
I can taste it in your tears

Harry gave her a little shake and she opened her eyes. She hadn't realized they were closed. He had tears in his emerald eyes that were now dark with worry...with pain...with anguish. He knew he was going to loose her soon, and she knew this was one death he may not live through. She knew this may be his breaking point.

At least Voldemort is dead, she thought bitterly. This whole thing feels like an-eye-for-an-eye. He dies, she dies, and again Harry suffers. How many people does he have to loose before the world looses him? She hoped he would loose no more. This was more than any twenty-three year-old mind could stand.
Closing your eyes to disappear
You pray your dreams will leave you here
But still you wake and know the truth
No one's there

They shared one last kiss as darkness took her. She heard him distantly call out her name. She never felt him shake her, never felt his tears fall to her face. She didn't know she exhaled...
Say goodnight
Don't be afraid
Calling me, calling me as you fade to black

Epilogue:

Harry Potter died a month later, leaving his three year-old daughter in the hands of his best friend, Ronald Weasley. The Medi-Wizards have no idea what the cause of his death was. There was no poison, no spell echoes, nothing. But Ron knew. Harry had died because he couldn't live without Hermione, who was his life. Ellie Potter would never know her parents, never know how special they were to those closest to them, never know how much they loved her. But Ellie would know their story. She would know that she and her father had more in common than their looks, for she looked nearly exactly like him, but with her mother's golden eyes. She would know that there was one being in the world responsible for the deaths of her parents, and her grandparents...all four of them.
