The Missing Piece Of My Heart
Chapter one: "I still feel that there's something missing"
It was the beginning of my sixth year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. I wasn't really looking forward to going back to school. I wasn't like my best friend, Sirius Black, who enjoyed having hoards of giggling girls following him. I had Kathryn and I was thankful for that. I couldn't say that I was in love with her. I loved her of course, but I wasn't in love with her. It was easier this way. She had come along and saved me from my endless flavors of the month and I was thankful for that. But sometimes, I still feel that there's something missing. Like a piece of my heart isn't there. Corny, I know, but, hey, I'm just another guy trying to find my way.
But my friends coming into my compartment interrupt my thoughts. Yes, the Marauders. Sirius Black, a real girl magnet, with shoulder length black hair, which he kept in a ponytail, Remus Lupin, the person who keeps our group into balance. A tall boy with sandy hair and gray tired eyes. He's a werewolf, and for that reason we became Animagus at the end of our last year. And then there's Peter. He's really a tag along but we feel bad for him and let him hang out with us.
Behind them, I see Kathryn. She looks as gorgeous as ever, in her black jeans and yellow top. She comes in, sits next to me and kisses my cheek. That kiss would normally send chills down my spine, but right now it just shows me that there is indeed something missing.
The Marauders, that's the name of our prank-pulling group, in case you haven't realized yet, start talking about the usual things. Pranks, Quidditch, pranks, detention records, and pranks. A few of our favorite subjects.
But today, I don't feel in the mood to discuss any of those feelings. I look out the window and start thinking, as Sirius would say, about the immortality of the soul. I'm brought back to real life by the sound of Kathryn's voice.
"You know, we have a new transfer student this year. She's gonna be Prefect for the House she's sorted into."
"How come?"
"Highest grades in her year at Beauxbatons."
"So, do you think she's cute?" Sirius asked.
"Sirius, by the sounds of it, this girl has got an IQ bigger than her clothes size. There's no chance she'll ever like you!" I tell him.
"Should I be offended?"
"He's a helpless case!" Remus stated.
After that I went back to my daydreams. A new student. Maybe Sirius was right. What if she is cute? I look at Kathryn who is sleeping in my lap, and gently run a hand through her black hair. It shouldn't matter to me if she was cute. I had all I needed sleeping in my lap. But was she really a person with whom I could spend the rest of my life with? When you love somebody, you picture yourself having children and growing old with that person, but I didn't see myself getting married to Kathryn. Hell, I didn't see myself having children with anyone; I was only 16 and a half years old. I had my whole life ahead of me. But I was unaware that fate was about to play a cruel joke on me...
